OTT deletion of threads

I've noticed the MN seems to have become a tad over zealous in its decision to delete threads. I keep seeing deleted threads with deletion comment similar to "we don't feel this is helping anyone now", since when has that been a reason to delete? Sure delete personally offensive posts but you're ruining the forum with the over policing.

And sometimes the thread just disappears, no message, so you just have to guess it's been deleted and not moved. Irritating.

Exactly @Antarcticant when a poster steps over the line delete the post not the whole thread

I was disappointed with the hen party thread deletion. There was a good debate to be had about whether the hens' behaviour and dress was empowering, or the result of social conditioning to be 'titillating'. I agree the wording in some of the posts went too far, but those posts could've been deleted while leaving the thread to stand.

I agree - it's getting boring now. I'm sick of following interesting threads just to come back and find them deleted.

Also frustrating that posts / threads seem to be deleted at the request of the poster, yet there is no delete / edit button for us to use ourselves. Isn't that just making work for Mumsnet?

I guess so, to a point. But some are worse than others and if everyone is just sniping at each other and no progress is being made I can understand them wanting to bin it if the reports are flooding in.

There must have been a report or two for MNHQ to see a thread in the first place, and i have often seen the 'not helping anyone' message as a reason when it's turned into a bunfight going around in circles.
