Ban reverse threads

Ban them and ban the poster who thinks that's a good idea forever and ever.

But @donquixotedelamancha has said she doesn't want 'more' rules.

Banning reverses isn't adding more rules, it's just sticking to the rules hat have been there for years.

How on earth do you know, though? If it's "done well" you'd just assume it was a 1st-person problem the same as most other threads on here.
There's some weird notion that if the OP is describing OP's actions they must be being honest, unbiased and objective!

Reverses often show the hypocrisy on Mumsnet especially where it isn't obvious or just misleading if the poster is a man or woman. I wouldn't want them banned because they highlight the injustice faced on here at times.

You've just convinced me they should be banned.

There wouldn't be any more rules if they just stuck to the current ones.

By allowing the thread to stand and telling people to read all the OP's posts as they reveal it's a reverse, they're actually helping posters to break their own talk guidelines

It's ridiculous and akin to actually helping people to troll.

They’re probably not that busy if they’re on mumsnet posting about a randoms wedding or MIL or toddlers 3rd birthday party. Your advice isn’t really that valuable in most cases. 😬 People get way too invested. A lot of stuff on here is probably made up anyway. Leave the reverses, it adds to the entertainment.

I totally agree. You can’t truly describe the other persons side of the story.

It annoys me as it is never done well. It is never a true reverse from the other persons perspective. No matter how clever someone tries to be about it they will always have bias even if unintentional.

Anne, Bob and Carol threads just descend into posters guessing which of Anne or Carol the OP is and whether she is shagging Bob.

Much more annoying are reverses which go on for 500 posts before the OP finally admits they're the unreasonable SIL and then demands that the whole thing is deleted 'for privacy reasons'.

I never get why people say A, B and C threads are ‘hard to follow’. Why is it any harder than if you know their names are Anne, Bob and Carol?

They can be annoying but tbh I disagree that you can know it’s a reverse.

Bear in mind that a reverse thread is about someone who really is showing the behaviour the OP is posting about, so there’s nothing to say that someone couldn’t post here believing that such outrageous behaviour really isn’t unreasonable.

The only way to know for certain that a thread is a reverse is if the OP admits it. The rest is just guess work.

Yes I agree with that too. One of the reasons MN is great is because there aren't too many rules and moderation is largely reasonable and sensible.

I saw that one too and felt the same. I felt like I was being told what to do. Its not my fault it OP decided to play some sort of weird game and pretend she was another party in the issue.

I hate these threads and would support banning them. Posters are already anonymous so what's the point?
