As I said, foxy, I used slings extensively for both my dcs

Why don't we just start a thread in products- like the pushchair thread. The sling cupboard maybe?!
I think it would be helpful actally. I have got some great guidance from people on here about slings and carriers, but it can be hit and miss as to wether the right people are about to see your post. If there was one big thread it might be a bit easier.

Sounds good, but please can it be called something about slings and NOT "babywearing".

if you actually wanted to carry a baby in a sling you'd quickly discover it is more than about consumption.

Does babywearing just mean using slings? The term wasn't around when mine were babies, though of course we all used slings.

If it just means using slings a babywearing topic would just be like a buggies topic etc? -- In other words it would be a bit consumery. Do we have a buggy topic or other consumer topics?

On a site filled with women with babies or about to have one a babywearing forum would surely be used by more people than a blooming horse forum.

And we need the sling review section to be subdivided into types: ie stretchy wraps, woven wraps, pouches, ring slings, mei tais and other Asian slings, and soft structured carriers.

Just adding another yes please on the baby wearing forum! I have loads of questions on this and they get buried in the other forums.

yes please a babywearing topic would be excellent - it is one of my things of the moment - essential to life with a baby who doesnt want to be put down and a 2 year old who wants my constant unswerving attention

I have now three slings and getting them right is a complex mission - need others to talk to about this

I didnt see the bringing up baby programme as would have found it too upsetting, but my friend has bought the 'Close' sling which the babywearing woman on there designed and it seems really good - like a hugabub but adjustable with rings

That's a good idea Indith especially as people have different needs out of prams/puchairs/slings and to ask other's advice in a central place would be ideal. People do say 'Oh we always discuss this, go and search for an old thread' but you're right they are under many different topics. Also newcommers still need this type of indormation.

If a topic for slings alone wouldn't go down well what about baby transporting devices in general? There are always people asking about prams and those threads end up scattered too....you find sling or pushchair and pram threads under products, pregnancy, chat, other subjects, parenting.......at least then we would know which broad heading to look for threads under

I have to say, I never thought I'd be a sling person but they're great!

I think a thread dedicated to slings would be good as they are becoming ever popular and people (me!) don't/didn't know how many different types there are and also the different ways they can be tied.

Yes it takes 2 at first but once you are confident with the initial act of getting him onto your back another set of hands just gets in the way. Basically as long as you have the wrap tight over his back then you can mess around a fair bit no problems. Trying above a sofa or bed is good at first!

Indith - It's the type of thing I would probably only do with Dh on hand. The hugabub is just fine for me atm but I was amazed at the little girl in the video being able to 'help' her mum!

muppet I definitel found that when I started on back carries a back cross carry was better, especially when ds was younger and fell asleep in the sling lots as with a bit of practice you can leave enough slack to be able to reach over your shoulder and pull the cross over his head to support it exactly the same way you do in a front cross carry.
