I’m still not understanding why somebody who might want advice on donations for Ukraine should have to post in AIBU or chat or scroll back through pages of MIL posts.

On the one hand, people are complaining that, once again, Chat and AIBU are being dominated by one specific subject that is currently in the news. Previously it was Brexit, then Covid. Now Ukraine. Clearly, this reflects the fact that there are lots of MNers who want to talk about this subject, which is why those threads are dominating right now. But instead of just removing themselves from those threads and focusing on the specific topics that they want to discuss, they want everyone else to be removed instead. Why is it sidelining to suggest that others focus on the specific topics that interest them, but not sidelining to suggest that users who do want to talk about the current situation should be tidied away onto a specific board? It isn't actually the case that you have any objections to sidelining groups of MNers per se. You just think that the people who should be sidelined are the ones who want to discuss the topics that you don't want to talk about.

I do agree that there are too many scaremongering threads on here today, and lots of them are ridiculous, but you don't have to read them. I just don't bother opening the sillier ones. If the thread titles alone were upsetting me, I would just hide the miscellaneous threads for a while. They're full of war related topics right now anyway, so you won't miss much, and if you want to talk about other things, then the topic boards are available.

Why don't you just hide AIBU and chat
I already have AIBU hidden. Doesn't stop them constantly appearing in 'trending' though. And if I hide Chat as well, it will be a waste of time coming on MN.

I think we should be aware that there might be bots and media trying to scare people. And no I'm not paranoid, this is me thinking rationally here.😭

Have found a way to hide the threads but I agree with PP, I’m considering leaving mn over these threads, not because of anxiety but because MN has become like a nuclear war discussion site. it’s far far worse than either COVID or Brexit ever were.

I must have twenty or thirty threads hidden. I am seriously considering leaving Mumsnet and all the support it has for me as a new mother, because my anxiety is through the roof everytime I see a new thread. I understand that some people thrive on information and conversation, and (maybe) some people love the drama. But for me, just the titles cause me to feel an overwhelming sense of panic. And when it late with a night feed and I just want somewhere to go and have a mindless read, having those panic attacks causes even more sleepless nights.

So I don't have to wade through 450+ posts above, PLEASE, for the love of Mike, can someone tell me if MNHQ has opened a separate war topic yet?

Loads of threads about people thinking about whether it's safe for their kids to go to school or not, or If we should be building nuclear bunkers.

I’m using safari but with voiceover. Whatever means there are to hide a thread are inaccessible with voiceover.

Actually now I think we need a bloody topic so I can hide the whole thing and report everything which isn’t posted there so HQ can move it.

I don’t suffer with anxiety. I do however have a strong compulsion to click on any of these fearmongering threads and tell people to get a fucking grip.

And can you not understand that even topic titles can be massively triggering for some people? Let alone having to actually open the thread to hide it where you can invariably read at least some of the OP?

We should all be reporting posts where we feel that they are inappropriate. However, I think there is also an onus on people to take some responsibility for managing their own activities online. If you have a tendency to suffer from anxiety, for example, it's probably best to scroll on past the threads discussing nuclear war. You don't have to click on them.

It would be easier if "hide thread" could be accessed without the need to click on the thread in the desktop site.

Absolutely agree. MNHQ, if you don’t want a separate board for this Feb we at least have a way of hiding threads without needing to open them? I can’t open a thread without reading at least part of the OP and the scaremongering is awful on the site at the moment.

Because current threads still appear in active convos and older threads (i.e. more than a day old) can be easily browsed in the topic.

It's been a week now @LilyMumsnet do you think a decision should be made because in all honesty leaving this stuff to fester is irresponsible.
