war topic

I think it's important enough to have its own topic
then I can hide it just like COVID and Brexit, some conversations are good, and some of them are absolute bollocks

Why does the site need to be disorganised?

What's the point in having topics if everyone puts everything into Chat/AIBU?

Otherwise you may as well delete all the topic areas and just have every single thread about anything at all 'loose'.

I'm not sure why making a branch for these threads makes them less important. I'd have thought it was the other way round. I don't think that war and conflict is a 'chat' or 'AIBU' subject, personally. I think it does deserve its own area.

Lumping a war and a word game into the same box is actually disgusting.

I think it's a good idea. It's like back in 2020 when it was thread after thread about Covid with a lot of differing information/opinions.
Those that are interested in constantly discussing it will know where to find the threads and post, those that don't want to can hide the topic.

If you want to talk about something else, then start another thread. I'm sure that there are plenty of like-minded people who will join you.

Yes, the threads are taking over like the Covid ones did, if I want to know about the war I will watch the news.

Yes, you do have to open it to hide it - annoying! In ye olden days you could hide from active conversations.

How do you hide threads? I am on desktop and it seems you have to actually open it to have the option... which defeats the point.

Please MN, don't let a handful of pushy posters dictate what the rest of us can post on general boards like chat or AIBU. Some issues are hugely important and should be widely discussed. Most of us do not want a sanitised version of mumsnet.

Those sensitive souls who don't like seeing serious topics discussed should hide the general threads and stick to the specific topic boards that they find inoffensive. They should not be allowed to dictate what the rest of us are discussing or where we are discussing it.

I will be really pissed off if MN listens to this nonsense and the most popular boards are gradually reduced down to mindless trivia just in case it upsets anyone. That was never what this site was supposed to be about.

If there’s still absolutely loads of Russia related threads in a couple of weeks then I would agree with filtering them into a topic. But I bet there won’t be (sadly not because the conflict will have ended but because conversations/news here in the UK will have moved on).

I objected to this earlier as it felt like a high handed approach by the OP who earlier posted on another thread asking people to post on 'In the News'. It probably does need its own Topic because of the hysteria others have mentioned. I'm not sure what the title should be though.

If it was all rational, informed discussion about what is currently going on then fair enough, but we are already at the point today when the following are being discussed almost as as foregone conclusions.

Prepping.
Conscription.
Total annihilation by a nuclear strike.
Evacuating the UK.
People overheard discussing buying guns.

Agreed. If this carries on, I simply won't spend time here. Which might not be a bad thing as I spend too much time on Mumsnet.
The hysteria and constant presence of war and fear is something I really don't need. I don't have anxiety, I'm no more mentally fragile than the next person. But it just isn't what I'm here for.

If there's a branch, I might visit it occasionally. And I'll be watching the news. I'm not sticking my head in the sand, but I don't need lots of panicky voices when I come here to pass the time..
