Some users seemingly having "protected" status

When I first joined many years ago there was definitely a group if posters who were seen as leaders of the pack who were never deleted and could have posters banned with 1 report to MNHQ.
They appear to have long since gone or name changed which is why I rejoined.
I havent seen MNHQ protecting certain posters like that in the last year or so.

I think if enough posters find it offensive as you say and report then surely MN should look at the posts again?

I must admit I always thought that Mumsnet moderation was fairly and rather charmingly done until I experienced exactly what you are describing on a thread earlier this year op, under a different nn. Someone had made what I thought was a really racist remark but when I pointed it out, and the poster was rude to me, it was my post that was deleted. And I have been on here since 2002 and never had any problems before, always try to be polite etc. I can only imagine that the other poster had "special" status. I have since looked at other threads and seen this happen. And I say this as someone who doesn't like criticising Mumset as it has helped me a lot over the years.

I think it's actually better than it was ten years ago. One or two got away with a lot then.

I’m sometimes a troll. Ie, someone posted to ask how many meatballs were reasonable per portion and I gave a MN classic answer of tiny portions. It was a joke. Some people thought I was serious and some thought I was joking.

Likewise, I sometimes give vaguely troll like answers on what are quite clearly troll threads. Like the one where someone said they’d made a million pounds from selling MLM or something and I said it wasn’t that much.

Is that the kind of thing you’re talking about?

I agree@ErrolTheDragon, but I also think mnhq take those posters posts down, or at least IME. (Though I'm not here as much as I used to be tbf).

Honestly, MN thrives on its viper reputation. It's the differentiating factor between MN and all those other 'mummy' sites with their incessant 'hun' and 'bubba' nonsense.

I'm here for the sarcasm and the straight talking. If there is something offensive then report it.

Please don't petition to water down the conversation here to another mush-fest. There are plenty of other options for that.

I like the straight talking on here, and cannot get stressed about other posters voicing their own opinions whether I agree or not.

I might agree if it was not the case that anyone else posting similar comments gets moderated in minutes, and replies of a similar tone get moderated in minutes, yet some users seem to be allowed to troll with impunity.
I think maybe we need a link to a thread like this, as I've obviously missed them all!

And tbf I have never in over 15 years on MN seen anyone be sarky on a bereavement thread.

There is a poster I've noticed quite a few times in the past fortnight as being overly-argumentative... but it's not a name I've seen previously, nor are they making any personal attacks, so whilst it's annoying, there's no valid reason to take down their posts.

But no of course it’s not but it could be inappropriate given the context. If someone has posted about a bereavement or PND or distress at their relationship ending, a sarky comment obviously would be probably against TGs.

Perhaps MNHQ think your complaint is invalid. There's a gulf between 'rude' and 'offensive' in most cases. Just because you don't like what someone is saying doesn't mean you can silence them.
