Some users seemingly having "protected" status

Hey @MNHQ

Why do some users seemingly have "protected" status on here?

There are some who regularly troll, post comments which are deliberately unhelpful at best, often rude, sarcastic etc. yet their posts almost never get moderated. However when anyone replies to them in a similar tone, or disagreeing with them, those replies get "moderated" almost instantly, with replies moderated out of existence merely by the nature of disagreeing with them?

Why are certain posters allowed to get away with almost anything, what is the reason that they gain this special status?

MN has an entire section of the site dedicated to protected transphobes, if they don't care about deleting them then they won't care about people being sarcastic.

Do you mean "transphobes" in the sense that they want to see transsexuals abused or beaten up? Or do you mean "transphobes" in that they don't agree that a biologically male human can become a biologically female human?

When I first joined many years ago there was definitely a group if posters who were seen as leaders of the pack who were never deleted and could have posters banned with 1 report to MNHQ.

Yes, this used to be a thing. They were of the 'plain speaking' variety. They had little cheerleaders who came to attack anyone who dared take them to task. I backed off from the site for a few years as well because it was awful. Like Mean Girls. I haven't noticed any recently but they, or their ilk, may be back

With regard to trolling, I think some threads which are more like personal attacks on well known people are just disgusting but they are allowed to run on and on which I find shocking.
These threads are always page after page of nastiness.
This is open season trolling on a celeb who has no right of redress, picking apart their personal life etc etc.
Nobody stops any of that. It's like a feeding frenzy.
So someone comes on and says something really stupid and an individual comments on it and hey presto - they get a ban.
I know as this has happened to me.
Do I report people? No. I'm not like that but I do report a troll thread if I think it is one.
It looks to me as if some folks can get away with more than others.

And in that instance it could potentially fit the OP’s definition of someone (i.e. me) saying something, and when someone disagreed they were the ones deleted while I was not.

Actually the whole thread ended up being pulled in the end…

There's definitely a few notorious posters who are unhelpful assholes. They just appear to be grumpy, not needing moderation. I'm not sure I've seen specifically what you're talking about OP.

The sarcasm was not appreciated I don't think.

It’s difficult to have an opinion though without any kind of example. Because what to one might seem offensive isn’t necessarily.

There are definitely some offensive posters out there, but there are also some over sensitive ones. There’s surely a middle ground there somewhere.
