Random ads popping up and covering content

Any idea what's going on? I keep on getting different adverts popping up and covering the content in threads - practically every one I open gets one by about the 3rd or 4th post in. Having to click on the x in the corner of it to get rid of it every time.

It is starting to get really annoying now.

Desktop version, Chrome.

Same in Safari - they’re covering posts completely, and clicking the x to close doesn’t work because then there’s a same sized white rectangle with the little messages in - so still covering the post. Hmm

The ads on MN are becoming ever more intrusive, what with the videos, the banners at the top, these ads covering posts. Really crap.

I’m getting it too on an iPad with safari. It’s on almost every page of a thread. On some ads I can find an x to close it, but it’s bloody annoying.
