Any chance of a review of the FWR moderation rules in light of Maya Forstater's success in court please?

The belief that transwomen are men and that transmen are women has been accepted as a legitimate and protected belief, yet we are not able to state this on Mumsnet under the current rules.

It has become increasingly difficult to discuss feminist issues on the dedicated feminism boards as a result of the moderation rules.

In light of Maya's success in court, and that 'gender critical' beliefs are considered protected under the Equality Act, would it be possible for the FWR sex/gender mod rules to be re-visited please?

The High Court judge also said “ This judgment does not mean that those with gender-critical beliefs can 'mis-gender' trans persons with impunity.”

Sounds like reading the full judgement will be worthwhile.

Me too. Got a telling off for mis gendering someone like was crime of the century when I was discussing something they had said on the radio and all I could hear was. Male voice but naughty me! Of course was a women.

Yes, I would prefer it if MNHQ took some time to consider a response to this. It is too important to rush.

Indeed.

The judgement was quite clear that holding 'gender critical' beliefs was legitimate and within the remit of our equality law, and not inherently 'transphobic'.

Yes it's just been established that gender critical feminism and believing that sex is real is not transphobic.

It's now a protected belief.

Hopefully, it will give HQ some leverage with their advertisers. They cannot be compelled by their detractors to flout equality law.

This is really important.
That statement isn't in itself offensive.

I guess some people take offense that. But it seems perfectly acceptable on MN to misgender women by calling them cis-gender and despite the fact that the vast majority of women find that offensive the comments are allowed to stand. So even though the TW are men statement is offensive to some, it should still be able to be said.

Agreed, although to be fair to MN it is one of the only spaces online where women have been allowed to discuss this, despite the talk guidelines sometimes getting in the way of making a point clearly.
