Yes it was the fact that it was AMA rang out. The first few posters didn't really know what to say. I couldn't read the whole thread as it was getting others emotionally involved. You have to pity some people I suppose, they obviously don't have anything going on in real life.

I worked with a bloke who said 11 of his children had been killed by the IRA. In Australia. While he was working as a spy for the Bulgarian government.
None of that came up in Google either funnily.

People do need to take a step back and think, when totally unbelievable stuff like that is posted.

For what it's worth, anyone who starts a thread like this is not entirely mentally healthy. They may be writing about something totally different, but they're still grappling with something.

I reported this. I actually wrote in my report that I felt awful if I had made a mistake and it was real but the dates didn't add up, the writing was 'off'. I asked MN to confirm if the poster was a long-standing namechanger as she said. I didn't comment on the thread.

Well I fell for it, I spent ages last night feeling awful for that OP! Why would someone make that up?!

I'm also now sat here worrying about what if it WAS real and on top of that trauma she's had her thread deleted and all

The st Leonard’s story must have been national news, I’m in Scotland and I remember reading about it.

@rattymcratrat the lack of news wasn't a red flag to me as often murders get little press

I think if it was in the bereavement section or even AIBU ("for traffic") but the AMA was just off and a bit jarring to me. She could have still gotten questions on another board and answered them and it would have been more subtle. The AMA felt like she wanted to tell a story more so than looking for support.

As I know some people do go through similar things, I couldn't say if it was fake or not but something about the whole AMA felt a little crass. I just hid it rather than report it since I didn't know.

It’s true that baby death is a massive troll area. Not just on MN too. I think one of the first big internet troll scandals was to do with it.

That's an awful story, but unfortunately family murders like this get less coverage than people being killed by total strangers.

Well it is true that it's odd that someone would start such an AMA but with the best intentions (aka me being naive!) I genuinely thought she needed to talk and this was her asking for some help and a listening ear. After all it's unimaginable and there really are people who have survived things like this. I don't know any and I don't know how they've coped. I would never ask her about the gory details and bever did. Most of the thread was entirely focused on the support and emotional side of things and on her DD.

It was so obvisouly nonsense. I didnt bother commenting and I cant believe all the people who did could be so naive.

However, if the troll is still floating around they will be very much enjoying that their little fantasy has spawned another thread of people talking about them, so hopefully mumsnet will take this down.

So glad that thread was deleted. Don't know if it was true or not so didn't report it but the title and the opening post left a really awful taste in my mouth - just couldn't believe someone would want to do an AMA on such an incident, true or not. I hid the thread.
