To wonder why I keep being thrown into threads I didnt select

It keeps happening. Everytime I click on a thread a different one opens. It's driving me mad. Anyone else having the same problem?

OP posts:
Ridiculousradish · 17/04/2020 10:10

Yes me too! Thought there was an issue with my tablet. So annoying.

Vicbarbarkley · 17/04/2020 10:04

This has been a problem for ages, pisses me off no end.
Tech are ALWAYS going to be asked for an update.
I give up half the time because apart from anything else, half the time get chucked into the sponsored threads that are not even on the screen at the time😡

MrAlyhakinsMassiveYacht · 12/04/2020 15:30

And threads in site stuff get deleted after 100 days

Eggcited · 12/04/2020 10:39

And here we are, just another thread in site stuff that will receive occasional half-hearted updates, but no actual fix to the problem.

CheriLittlebottom · 12/04/2020 10:28

If they haven't fixed it in the months / years of asking, then it's very unlikely there will be any progress on Easter Sunday.

Indeed.

EducatingArti · 12/04/2020 10:21

Yes. This keeps happening to me too. Very annoying!!

Eggcited · 12/04/2020 10:19

we're going to ask tech if there are any updates on a fix.

LilyMumsnet · 12/04/2020 10:16

Hi all,

Thanks so much for raising this.
It is indeed an issue we are aware of - we're going to ask tech if there are any updates on a fix.

We'll also move this over to site stuff so that we can keep track of it and update when necessary. We hope that's OK, OP.

CheriLittlebottom · 12/04/2020 10:08

All in all, not really a website worth a fiver a month, is it.

MrAlyhakinsMassiveYacht · 12/04/2020 10:05

Eggscited with that and telling people to turn it off and on again, I'm sure you'd do a grand job Grin

Like the Load More not actually loading more, just a repeat of the same (still not fixed- mobile, Chrome) and the desktop site Loading More but not being able to watch or hide any of them (desktop, Chrome) issues which are being looked into but not actually being sorted.

BogRollBOGOF · 12/04/2020 09:18

It's happening to me a lot too. The phone is only a few months old and fairly decent, it's the adverts loading that does it.

I've often wondered what the percentage of clicks onto any advertised website online are accidental, 90%?
My local paper is terrible for it as the adverts take up most of the page making it difficult to scroll past without accidental clicking (placenameLive)

Eggcited · 12/04/2020 09:18

We're always posting on site stuff about it. They keep saying "ooh ever so sorry, tech will have a look"

I'd love a job in their tech department. I'm not tech savvy, but I could do the job if I had to go and look but not touch. Grin

Bingeslayer · 12/04/2020 09:14

Thought it was just me,hasn't happened before but since ive come back on mumsnet in last 2 months it's happening all the time, bizarrely on my bigger tablet screen more than my phone.

TheCanterburyWhales · 12/04/2020 09:14

Been happening for years. Used to think it was my fat aged fingers.
Now I just go and do something else for a bit.
Maybe once everyone starts paying (mwahahahaha) they'll get a spanner and sort it out.

Slychomping · 12/04/2020 09:12

Me too! It's getting really old now and driving me nuts!

I thought it was my old tablet device but then I saw how many other posters had been having problems.

Someone on another thread hinted that site was set up so that certain sponsored threads kept opening, even though another one had been clicked on, so perhaps this has got out of hand and caused a technical issue?

It is really putting me off from clicking on lots of threads ATM though as it's so much hassle!

CheriLittlebottom · 12/04/2020 09:08

Glad it's not just me / my phone.

@mnhq let me guess, a premium membership will magically solve this problem? Hmm

UnaOfStormhold · 12/04/2020 09:06

One thing that I find helps on my phone (android, not sure if this will work on other systems) is to long click and then select open in new tab - I can check that the link looks right for the thread I want but it almost always picks up the correct thread doing it this way. Plus when I close the new tab and go back to the links page it doesn't have to load again so generally works more reliably.

Eggcited · 12/04/2020 09:06

I have reported the top thread to mn, so they can answer

I suspect the answer will be

  • We're looking into it
  • We'll get the tech team to have a look
  • What device / browser are you using
  • Could you let us know which thread / topic you're having the problem on

I think that covers it.

Eggcited · 12/04/2020 09:03

Reported back in February and still no closer to being fixed 2 months later.

Why am I not surprised. Hmm

Sometimes I wonder why we even have a site stuff to report problems.

"And don’t get me started on that sodding Disney plus banner. I swear I am nowhere near it, but it still sends me to the Disney plus webpage."

Yessssssss, fu**g Disney banner. Just opens of it's own accord. Hate it, hate it, hate it.

MrsCollinssettled · 12/04/2020 08:59

All the time plus it sometimes refuses to let you navigate away from a thread. Then the only option is to close down mumsnet and start again. Not an experience l'm prepared to pay for.

TabbyMumz · 12/04/2020 08:58

Yes, me too. Especially annoying. Often it's not just the next thread up that appears, but 5 or 6 threads up.

MrAlyhakinsMassiveYacht · 12/04/2020 08:55

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/site_stuff/3816181-Its-back-again-Random-thread-opening

It's a problem that has been around for ages and still hasn't been fixed.

SnowsInWater · 12/04/2020 08:53

I think that now there is a paid option for MN if you don't subscribe the free version will get more and more annoying until you cough up or give up. Maybe it's just me being cynical 😁
