The reasons SOME posters are coming out with as to why they NEEEEEEED the 'search for poster' function are somewhere between daft, pointless, and somewhat hilarious!

So, you admit that you were talking rubbish when you stated as fact that they go into watched threads. Unsurprisingly.

I'm not sure what the "conveniently" crap is. I turned it off as soon as it was introduced as it was pointless and ridiculous.

Regardless, if threads stayed in "watched" forever, how would you ever find the one thread you wanted amongst hundreds...? If they don't stay forever, how would you find the one thread you wanted...?

Oh dear, @pleasepleasepleasehelp. You're one of those posters who thinks it's very unlikely that people use MN for 'nefarious reasons' and therefore no one should have the ability to look up a poster ever, right? Sadly too many do use the site for troll kicks or pervy stories.

I am one of those who likes to see if Miss 'my 6 year old is still in nappies with no tangible reason, let's talk about leakage' or 'tell me I'm not the only one who walks around their garden naked lol' has seemingly just joined for such reasons. If they've been posting since Jesus was a child then I have no reason to comment and can move on. If they joined yesterday and have been posing equally weird shit elsewhere, I can report without an ounce of guilt. Why is that such a bad thing?

And if that's the case (that you have turned off watch this thread' facility so threads don't automatically go into your threads I'm watching; ) why on earth wouldn't you click on watch this thread manually if you are interested in it?!

I don’t contribute much these days but I like the recipes and products people mention so find poster search useful as I’ll often remember a name.

So you see peoples recipes, but don't bother contributing to the thread, (or clicking watch this thread,) yet amazingly, you remember the poster's name who posted the thread.

It wasn’t a thread I was looking for. It was one post. I hadn’t started the thread. That’s right there in my opening post.

Even if you didn't post the thread; if you posted in it, it WILL be in your threads I'm watching.

And if it was 4 years back, how the hell are you going to remember the poster's name who started it, or the bloody thread name anyway.

As I said, you can deny it all you like; it doesn't change the fact that any thread you post on WILL go it to your 'threads I'm watching.' And there is very little (if any at all,) reason to look up a poster's name, and go into their posting history. People on here never do that with good intentions.

At least own it, and admit that you just want the 'search for a poster' function to try and catch people out, because you think it makes you look clever, when you throw stuff in their face.

I’d like it back. But I’m not paying. It’s a basic search facility on a no frills site and we’ve always had it, so can we have it back please? Bit weird it’s vanished just as they’re now tapping us up for money.

Why is searching someone deemed 'nefarious'?! I want to know if someone is trolling or goading and AS is a very useful tool to help here - which then determines if I’m going to report a thread
