Since when did this rule happen?

We don't allow threads like this
OP posts:
Doyoumind · 03/02/2020 23:01

The thread title was probably the main issue.

Supersimkin2 · 03/02/2020 23:00

MN autoresponse to OP so idiotic it was properly cruel.

At least we hope that Samaritans throwaway remark was autoresponse. Or at any rate, we hope whoever deals with these threads has suddenly got the chance to retrain.

Monitors make mistakes - nowhere is that better known than MN - but this one is not ok.

PurpleDaisies · 03/02/2020 23:00

That won’t have been it blue, there were other very concerning things about that thread. Loads of posters talk about trying to call the Samaritans, or their experiences of having called them.

BohoBunney · 03/02/2020 22:59

I understand that they may be under guidance from mental health charities but to say “phone the samaratins” when that’s the whole point of the thread is absolutely disgusting at best and at worst highly damaging! Poor woman I sincerely hope she is ok and @mnhq have a LOT of explaining to do for this! I really hope they get in contact with the op of the initial thread to apologise and actually HELP her!!

TheBlueStocking · 03/02/2020 22:59

There's no reason someone should get their thread deleted just for saying they were trying to call the samaritans

JayAlfredPrufrock · 03/02/2020 22:58

It’s always been the rule as long as I can remember.

PurpleDaisies · 03/02/2020 22:57

If this thread stays general, it could stand.

TheBlueStocking · 03/02/2020 22:57

Another thread about this has been deleted.

Shame on you, @MNHQ

KitKat859 · 03/02/2020 22:56

They've deleted the calling out post so I'm sure this one will go soon!

KitKat859 · 03/02/2020 22:55

But there was no reason to delete it so I'm not sure what "rule" this applied to. Nothing she said was wrong

Doyoumind · 03/02/2020 22:50

That's been the rule for ages.

MumofTinies · 03/02/2020 22:48

She specifically said in her OP that she had tried unsuccessfully to contact samaritans. I really hope she went home, poor woman.

JaneJeffer · 03/02/2020 22:44

She didn't have any plan. She just needed someone to talk to. There are similar threads in the MH topic which were allowed to stand.

OP posts:
PurpleDaisies · 03/02/2020 22:42

Actively suicidal posters with a plan have always been deleted. That’s absolutely right and it’s what mental health charities and professionals recommend. It’s for the good of the poster.

I didn’t see all the thread, but I assume that must have happened here.

KitKat859 · 03/02/2020 22:41

Ridiculous MN!
