Since when did this rule happen?

We don't allow threads like this
OP posts:
cantfindausername2 · 03/02/2020 23:41

'Here'

cantfindausername2 · 03/02/2020 23:41

Your right PurpleDaisies, better we all pretend it didn't happen to maintain status quo. Nothing to see hear folks, move right along. Oh, and don't come here for support, thats what the Samaritans are for.

TheBlueStocking · 03/02/2020 23:38

We're not rehashing it. We're worried about her being upset.

PurpleDaisies · 03/02/2020 23:34

I already said I didn’t read all the thread, but between the title and some of the things she was saying it was pretty clear what the situation was. I expect the moderator read it the same way I did.

Anyway, I don’t think rehashing the thread is the right thing. This should be deleted as a taat if so.

cantfindausername2 · 03/02/2020 23:30

What imminent plan did she have? Not wanting to go on? That isn't a plan. Poor woman, i hope she finds real support somewhere.

TheBlueStocking · 03/02/2020 23:30

It’s the imminent suicide or a clear plan that’s the problem

You obviously didn't read the thread or read her posts properly. She didn't say either those things

PurpleDaisies · 03/02/2020 23:28

So a person can't write a thread saying they aren't coping and feel worthless? Are all threads that may imply this to be blocked?

No, it’s not that. It’s the imminent suicide or a clear plan that’s the problem.

cantfindausername2 · 03/02/2020 23:27

JaneJeffer · 03/02/2020 23:18

I thought the reply was quite compassionate
I think the complete opposite.

OP posts:
BitOfFun · 03/02/2020 23:17

This has been the case for a long time now, after MNHQ took advice from a range of mental health organisations about responsible polices around the issue of suicide.

Damned if you do, damned if you don't, it would appear for MNHQ.

TheBlueStocking · 03/02/2020 23:14

The whole point is that she was struggling to access professional help.

The only PP posts I saw were ones suggesting she contact her GP or try the samaritans again.

It shouldn't be too much to ask to tailor a message to someone in distress.

Doyoumind · 03/02/2020 23:11

Yes. Remember they are concerned for the MH of all posters and not just the OP. If a thread escalates into something it could be very harmful for anyone involved.

PurpleDaisies · 03/02/2020 23:10

So unqualified mumsnet posters are in a better position to help than trained professionals and highly trained volunteers?

TheBlueStocking · 03/02/2020 23:10

@WellHolyGodMiley

There are times to muse on whether people troll about suicide and this isn't one of them.

user14928465 · 03/02/2020 23:09

That won't have helped her, that will have hurt her.

madcatladyforever · 03/02/2020 23:08

She wasn't rudely silenced. I thought the reply was quite compassionate but this poster needs professional help not mums net.

PurpleDaisies · 03/02/2020 23:08

I don’t know that I agree with “no plan”. From what I read of the thread (and won’t repeat here because it’s triggering) there were pretty clear intentions.

WellHolyGodMiley · 03/02/2020 23:08

I agree with mumsnet on this one. Half the time they turn out to be trolling. People wear themselves out supporting somebody else, who may or may not be genuine, posters are not equipped to deal with a suicidal poster and that's if the poster is genuine, if the poster is not genuine, the posters trying to support deplete their own resources. And feel duped and jaded if it turns out to be a troll. If the suicidal person doesn't come back, how does anybody know if they went ahead or not.

JUST WAY TOO MUCH

Good call Mumsnet.

cantfindausername2 · 03/02/2020 23:07

PurpleDaisies, she har no plan, was feeling isolated and reached out for words of support. She was shut down with directions to contact the people she feels shut off from. Logical or not it is cruel and insensitive.

TheBlueStocking · 03/02/2020 23:06

@PurpleDaisies

It wouldn't have done her any good at all. She was most likely extremely hurt and upset.

Poor thing :(

LowerLoxleyAmbridge · 03/02/2020 23:05

I was so upset when I saw that deletion message. This was not someone discussing an active suicide plan.

Someone feeling really down felt 'rejected' by not being able to access help from Samaritans. Came on here, trying to seek help instead....rejection again....along with a note for them to contact the samaritans.

It just seemed incredibly cruel to me.

I am reporting my own post in the hope that mumsnet HQ might please read it in the morning.

PurpleDaisies · 03/02/2020 23:04

Yes, but there’s a line that can’t be crossed for everybody’s good, especially the poster’s.

cantfindausername2 · 03/02/2020 23:04

I believe s small amount of sensitivity training is needed by some mods. I have been in that womans place and it would have distroyed me to be so rudely silenced.

TheBlueStocking · 03/02/2020 23:03

It really wasn't an unusual situation for a woman with PND and a young baby to be in, unfortunately. We should be allowed to talk to each other.

TheBlueStocking · 03/02/2020 23:01

She even said she'd tried emailing them too and hadn't got a reply :(
