Please can we just see the OP updates?

I'm hugely over invested in a thread that's more than a dozen pages long, waiting for the OP to come back, this happens quite often.
Is there any way we could have a button to see OP updates on a si gle page or similar? It's very tedious reading 10 plus pages of "placemarking" or whatever, when all you are interested in is the update.
Thanks MNHQ!

Yes please. I can't change colour of op posts

treasonandcoconuts · 06/09/2019 19:48

Yes please MNHQ.

It’s not the friendliest atmosphere when someone joins a conversation to be told to rtft or that things have moved on.

It can be pretty annoying when 200 posts in, people are still asking the same question that the OP answered the day before, or repeatedly making a suggestion that’s already been discussed & discounted. Having something that would allow people to catch up quickly would hopefully help.

BendydickCuminsnatch · 06/09/2019 19:13

Yesssss I’ve wanted this for ages! Of course I have OP messages highlighted, it doesn’t help with the the scrolling though!!

Lemoneeza · 06/09/2019 19:11

this has been requested before. it'll never happen. less time scrolling means less ad exposure and therefore revenue for the site.

GrandmaSharksDentures · 06/09/2019 19:08

And can this system work in the app too pls?

Cornettoninja · 06/09/2019 18:30

We’d all end up literally just having our say

People said that about the voting though and I don’t think that’s happened though. I think it’d encourage some people to join in longer threads, I know I tend to leave it when it’s a longer thread just because I can’t be arsed to scroll through pages for the highlight posts or change my settings just to get them all on one page.

(There should be a special word for internet laziness Grin)

dudsville · 06/09/2019 18:27

option, not section!

dudsville · 06/09/2019 18:26

I'd love this idea too, an OP only section. Sometimes the chat amongst everyone is interesting and fun (the thread about clothes that look different at home versus online) and sometimes you just want to know what happened (the thread about the poor poster who's husband was an alcoholic and her ASC son was alone at the festival).

HeronLanyon · 06/09/2019 18:22

My ‘show all messages’ doesn’t do anything !

ExpletiveDelighted · 06/09/2019 18:13

I just do "show all messages" and search the op's name in my browser (search bar on phone, ctrl-f on laptop).

HeronLanyon · 06/09/2019 18:13

Although I would love this idea I’ve just realised that this would totally undo any sense of community. The conversation would not longer exist and anyone looking at a thread would see a series of random isolated responses with no development etc.
Obvs not all would use the feature but I’ll bet a lot would.
We’d all end up literally just having our say.
On balance i now think it would be a backwards step for the site (even though i would love it)

Cornettoninja · 06/09/2019 18:00

I’d really like this function too. It would go some way to helping people joining an ongoing thread get the gist of things. It’s not the friendliest atmosphere when someone joins a conversation to be told to rtft or that things have moved on. It would be a layer against people getting irritated by drip feeding too.

Dec2019mumtobe · 06/09/2019 07:43

A +1 from me. I'd realllllllly like this feature Smile

HeronLanyon · 06/09/2019 07:30

chic got rather interested in’show all messages’ which I’ve never even noticed ! Just tried it and it doesn’t work on my iphone8 with latest iOS etc. Will keep trying. That would quicken things up a lot !

HeronLanyon · 06/09/2019 07:27

I would love this.

Yes op posts are in green for me but it can take a long time to ‘quickly update yourself’ if you have to choose, download, scroll through perhaps 10 or more pages often then to see there is no update yet ! I’d think it’s one of the reasons so many post without rtft and end up posting irrelevant comments.

If it can be done it would transform my mn experience !

Smidge001 · 06/09/2019 07:21

I vote for this too

DuggeesWoggle · 06/09/2019 07:17

Yes I came here to post this very thread. I click on a very long thread, scroll through for the OPs responses but it would be good to be able to condense all the OP posts into one thread. It would also be good if you could then expand a section between green OP posts to read what went on in between as often they have replied to someone.

This function would be especially useful for posts in relationships where OP might be updating on a situation or those mystery box/noise/scrap of paper with weird writing on type threads so if you come late to the party you can just get to the point and find out what the hell it is!

Funghi · 03/09/2019 13:16

Me too. So many threads seem to be filled with so much off-topic infighting it’s a pain to skip over it all.

FaFoutis · 03/09/2019 13:14

I would like this too.

mummabubs · 03/09/2019 13:13

I've always thought this would improve the app (and the site) too.

PotatoShape · 03/09/2019 13:09

Have a jump-to button, like on reddit, that jumps you to the next op post.

Please can we just see the OP updates?
Cuppa12345 · 03/09/2019 13:07

Yes, I like this and often think it would be easier that scrolling and scanning through 10+pages

CookPassBabtridge · 03/09/2019 13:04

Can't really whizz through on an app, can sometimes take ages to find the highlighted OP if there's been no update for a while. I would love this feature too.

BowiesJumper · 02/09/2019 14:35

In the meantime just do one page (rather than multiple pages) view and have the OP's posts highlighted and it's easy to whizz through to them.
