Deleted posts / Suspension warnings - FWR

FWR - don’t groan, I can hear you from here!

There are special mod’ing rules and very keen outside moderators for the FWR forum. Infraction warnings and deletions feel arbitrary, and unfriendly from a user base.

To help us, your user base, it would be useful if there was a ‘deleted post count’ and ‘rolling total’ on our profiles so we’d know where we are. Specially as there is a rolling count over 6? weeks, and we are not generally advised on post deletion.

If this is something you’d consider, what would you need from us to facilitate this?

Thanks as always for your time and attention.

Here’s an example of the nasty little gang of goaders making plans on Twitter, with tweets from @bespinuk and Joss Prior (who apparently has a whole drawerful of socks).

Deleted posts / Suspension warnings - FWR
2BthatUnnoticed · 29/08/2019 15:11

MNHQ a few people have said they have not gotten any preliminary warnings, just (surprise!) a final warning. Which then leaves them walking on eggshells lest a misplaced word gets them banned.

If people repeatedly breach guidelines (eg say banned words) fair enough to ban them. But some posters, I’ve not seen do anything untoward and suddenly they’re in Siberia ⛄️

Having said all that, I gather FWR is a pita to moderate and I appreciate all your efforts FlowersBrew

Further reply - unlikely to add a deleted post count

Ta.
We're unlikely to add a deleted post count - we do our best to let people know when they've broken the guidelines - and we do send out a couple of warnings before we suspend for a period.
Banning someone comes at the end of a long (and hopefully fair) process. We have clear guidelines and we've fairly recently updated them (see previous email).
Will post on the thread as soon as pos.
Kind regards,
Michael.

Update from MNHQ

I asked for some feedback as know MN are busy with tech issues atm and Michael replied:

—————————————-
Hi GirlDownUnder,
We're a bit snowed under at the mo - but we do intend to post as soon as it gets a bit quieter.

We're not sure if you've seen it, but to be honest we haven't got much more to add to the most recent moderation statement here:
www.mumsnet.com/Talk/site_stuff/3615349-Update-on-our-moderation-of-trans-rights-issues

That's still our approach - and we hope it helps to answer your questions.
Kind regards,
Michael.
MNHQ

My response:

Cheers for the swift reply and link Michael.

My query is not about changing or querying the mod’ing rules, but a question re having a deleted post count on our private profiles and the time served on those deletions. I’m asking because we have a 3 strike and banned rule, and most often we don’t even know we’ve had a post deleted.

Appreciate you’re snowed, I’ll update the thread so people know you’ll respond when things are a little quieter.

Cheers ☕️

Hahahah that answer has nothing to do with what you were asked

Yes it does, I answered you as to why, its' your response that's coming across Confused Grin

WTF

You do you
I will thanks Confused

GirlDownUnder · 29/08/2019 14:06

Hahahah that answer has nothing to do with what you were asked. But you know what, never mind.

You do you.

OP posts:
RosesAndRaindrops · 29/08/2019 14:00

Why did I say it? Because I was asking if the "now why or who"" extended to anyone else questioning or was that just saved for me?
Others have questioned points too like I showed and don't seem to have the doubt sower paranoid little"who or why" right after them.
Which you did.

GirlDownUnder · 29/08/2019 13:53

FWR is probably the only board that has a nasty little gang of dedicated goaders, some of who then go gloat about their behaviour on Twitter.

Exactly this, plus those that are previously banned, and the other monitors who like to mass report.

OP posts:
GirlDownUnder · 29/08/2019 13:49

Roses if you’ve read the thread then why say this...

“...rolling counter of deleted posts too or just me?
(Yeah, as that'd be a great idea, not, as in way to get people trigger happy on the report button if they knew you were near your limit lol! With the questioning poster on that one, sounds a bad idea to me!)”

OP posts:
EmpressLesbianInChair · 29/08/2019 13:38

I finally said to them, look, I don't wish to continue this as we will never agree on this, please don't @ me again. They continued on tagging me. I then had to resort to hiding the thread, just to get away from them.

The tagging thing is just annoying. I think a lot of posters use it for convenience while not thinking that the object of their tags is going to be getting constant emails. There's somewhere in Settings that you can switch it off.

FWR is probably the only board that has a nasty little gang of dedicated goaders, some of who then go gloat about their behaviour on Twitter. I think it's only reasonable that women on there have developed some defence mechanisms.

RosesAndRaindrops · 29/08/2019 13:22

I have read it, Girl.

GirlDownUnder · 29/08/2019 13:19

Roses I suggest you reread the thread.

Now why - or who - would have an issue with those questions being asked?

Confused

I don't have an issue with either, if to me (as I'm the one who raised no 2) just saying I can see a problem with the echo chamber aspect.
Is the paranoia "who or why" extended to those who questioned the rolling counter of deleted posts too or just me?
(Yeah, as that'd be a great idea, not, as in way to get people trigger happy on the report button if they knew you were near your limit lol! With the questioning poster on that one, sounds a bad idea to me!)

Redshoeblueshoe · 29/08/2019 12:19

I would like to add to that, that we should be told why.
I noticed a post of mine had been deleted. The information in it I had got from being on FWR Shock

Ali1cedowntherabbithole · 29/08/2019 12:07

This thread has asked two questions of MNHQ.

1)Would it be possible for FWR posters to be informed that they have been deleted.

  1. Would it be possible to have the facility to mute some posters.

Now why - or who - would have an issue with those questions being asked?

SaraNade · 29/08/2019 11:16

@RosesAndRaindrops Oh I'm not talking about people you simply disagree with. I mean posters that deliberately attempt to goad you and make snide comments that reference you. For example on a recent thread, I disagreed with a poster and they continued to act like my opinion was the worst thing ever, I was uneducated, etc. I finally said to them, look, I don't wish to continue this as we will never agree on this, please don't @ me again. They continued on tagging me. I then had to resort to hiding the thread, just to get away from them.

I think in circumstances like that, a block function would make a world of difference, and you wouldn't have to hide an entire thread because of the harassment of one poster.

LochJessMonster · 29/08/2019 10:57

I was banned due to apparently being warned 3 times, yet hadn't received any warnings and didn't know any of my posts had been deleted. I emailed MN who agreed I hadn't been warned so reinstated me, but apparently am still on my last warning. Still don't know what my previous 2 infractions were though (3rd one I admit I got a bit heated).

Would be good to know when a comment is deleted.

2BthatUnnoticed · 29/08/2019 10:48

Sara I do feel your pain - I once got “troll hunted” on aibu and it was a bit upsetting.

But I’ve also seen questions (eg, re teenage girls with periods) which read more like a fetishist fishing for “material” than anything else - that’s the type of scenario I was thinking about.

This is all getting a bit off track though, as this OP is about one specific board on MN (fwr). I don’t think you should be put off asking genuine questions though Smile

RosesAndRaindrops · 29/08/2019 10:39

I think being able to block posters that seem to deliberately goad you, taunt and upset you would be a wise idea. It would perhaps cut down on a lot of suspensions/bannings as if you block someone/each other, you can't argue and then can't get into trouble. I think that really is an idea MN should explore

How would that work as a discussion site though if you could just block people you disagree with?
You'd be setting up your own little echo chamber and only seeing half the replies.
I don't like some posts on here, but you question, engage, not just block.
Don't think that would be a good move for MN if they introduced that.

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 29/08/2019 10:13

everyone reports everyone's threads

No they dont

this board is held to a higher standard than others...and i know some people on here use recipes as an early warning system but some and sometimes we have just gone off on a tangent

I got told off the other day because i made ONE comment that wasnt to do with the thread

(I got told off on the brexit board for referring to something that had been posted a few pages before...apparently the thread had moved on Grin)

SaraNade · 29/08/2019 09:59

There is a board for recipes here: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/food_and_recipes

SaraNade · 29/08/2019 09:56

With regard to recipes, if you are bored on a thread, why not just close it and go to another one? And if you see pervs in every thread, almost no thread would stand. It is paranoia. And oddly enough it also does men's work for them, to silence women. Soon, no one will be game to post anything on here or ask for any advice, less the witch/troll hunters close them down. Can't people post without everyone assuming everyone is a troll or a perv? I think that people see trolls and pervs in every thread and every post is rather odd, like the Salem Witch trials imo. Just accept everyone on face value. If someone is really a troll or perv they will be obvious. I know I am a couple of others have wanted to post on here for advice, but we are too scared to because everyone reports everyone's threads. I thought this was a site for women to speak freely, not for people to go around reporting everyone's thread for no reason at all. Why not just shut this site down, if that's what it has come to?

2BthatUnnoticed · 29/08/2019 01:03

For goodness sakes - people are complaining about recipes now?? I’ve seen it all.

MN is a magnet for male trolls - pervy, malicious or just plain weird (they boast about it online). Most forums or phone lines dominated by women will be targeted this way.

I’m a bit naive sometimes - like the curious 3 year old watching the funny man rub his pants. By saying “look at the yummy cakes!” the recipe-posters can help to protect against an ill-intentioned person.

Ali1cedowntherabbithole · 28/08/2019 20:41
