Across this year we intend to make some improvements to features on Mumsnet talk with the aim of enhancing your experience of using the site. The first of which is to improve the functionality of the 'threads I'm watching' and bookmark features.

You might have used these features, or you may have no idea they even existed, either way we'd love it if you could complete this quick survey.

Any additional comments you want to add to this thread would also be welcome.

Thanks

I would love a Like button!!
Survey asks what I use to read MN my device (laptop) not option .
RSI so would prefer a Like button than typing msg.
Threads get dominant views & minority voices get stifled; Like button would better reflect opinion ranges.
Down/Upvoting is bad, though.

Many Talk categories could be merged. Menopause should go under Women's Health. Money categories should merge. "Education" should be renamed "Queries about specific schools" (!)

Is there a way of seeing all the threads I've ever started or commented on? I often want to look for a thread I started years ago, but can't remember what username I was using at the time. I think this feature would be useful now people name change a lot.

I know threads I've commented on now automatically go into "threads I'm watching", but this hasn't always been the case.

JaneJeffer · 10/02/2019 21:13

This happens all the time.

Can you help us to improve the Mumsnet site?

Can "Classics" have their very OWN section?

They are hidden so far down in the menu. I was looking specifically for them recently - and it still took ages to find them!

gamerchick · 10/02/2019 10:15

It's so slow, keeps freezing, takes ages for posts to load, takes ages for anything I'm typing to even show in the box - for the last week or so this has made it unbearable

Ah man is that slow typing thing happening again?

I can live with.. just..The freezing, the repeated having to reload pages because of some advert that's needs to wait for technology to catch up to it. Posts refusing to post but the letters not appearing as you type them thing and taking a literal half minute to go back to correct mistakes is unbearable and when it's finally posted there are pages added to the thread. Why does I do that?!

BIWI · 10/02/2019 08:46

Actually, this is like re-arranging the deckchairs on the Titanic.

Never mind all of these putative changes, please can you just make the bloody site work properly?

@Noloudnoises

Thirty seconds!? How fast do you type?? At least five minutes.

Or, we could have edited posts flagged as 'edited' somehow and a 'show unedited post' button?

HoldtheFrontPage · 09/02/2019 22:40

I use the watching feature and bookmark feature happily on the app, but don't think there's a way to see my watched threads or to bookmark threads on the desktop.

Delighted to be corrected if I'm wrong.

Noloudnoises · 09/02/2019 17:42

Time sensitive edit button would be good, you get 30 seconds or so to quickly address the terrible typo..!

Noloudnoises · 09/02/2019 17:40

Search function on the iPhone app is bizarre, add search filters and advanced options would be great.

Noloudnoises · 09/02/2019 17:39

Function to isolate only the OP's entries.

No 'like' button.

BIWI · 09/02/2019 17:21

Please God don't introduce a like button, or up and down voting Confused

You only have to go to Reddit for 5 minutes to see how the voting is misused.

I'd like the ability on Advanced Search to search posts started by someone, not just any post that they've made.

Ginkythefangedhellpigofdoom · 09/02/2019 17:11

I like the idea of answer or reply to poster.

You click that button and it copies the username and that post into the box you write in so you don't need to copy, bold and paste it. Yourself before you then write your reply.

It takes a while and is too much hassle sometimes on a fast moving thread because you need to do it twice, once for the username then scroll back up to the correct post (sometimes in the middle of dozens of other posts) and copy the content your replying to.

DGRossetti · 09/02/2019 17:08

Maybe a WYSIWYG editor ?

JaneJeffer · 09/02/2019 16:48

Could email address and name be encrypted in 'My Mumsnet' to prevent anyone getting someone else's information if they get accidentally logged into the wrong account?

NunoGoncalves · 09/02/2019 13:38

not bothered one way or the other with quotes as we now have the @ which I do like personally as I tend

The @ feature works for the person being tagged. For anyone else casually reading the thread, they then have to go back and find the original post to see what it said in order to understand the reply! Why not just have a quote button next to each post that when pressed, fills the reply box with:

@[username of original poster]
for bold - copy text from post - another to end bold.

Makes life much simpler and you can still delete part of the text if you only wanted to include one part in the quote.

WatcherOfTheNight · 09/02/2019 12:45

Ha @TwitterQueen1 Grin
Guilty as charged,I thought about asking for a cats bum too but I don't think they'd allow it .

TwitterQueen1 · 09/02/2019 11:00

I'd like a mallet, vomit face and a fire extinguisher ROFL at that Watcher, guessing the sentiments behind them...

WatcherOfTheNight · 09/02/2019 10:37

NOOOOO like/dislike buttons please ,I would rather someone speak to me & tell me why they agree or disagree.
And I agree with pp about the negative potential it may have .

I'd like the app to have the same features as the Mobile site ,pms in particular please!

I'm not bothered one way or the other with quotes as we now have the @ which I do like personally as I tend to miss peoples answers . I suppose it would come in handy on the app though as bold ,italic etc NEVER work .

Yes yes yes to more emojis, I'd like a mallet ,vomit face and a fire extinguisher 🧯
Pretty please

SoupDragon · 09/02/2019 10:17

The problem with the @ thing is when people don't know how it works and use a shortened version of someone's posting name. I had a few emails telling me I'd been tagged as I had a shorter version of someone's name in my arsenal of name changes. I turned off the emails.

NunoGoncalves · 09/02/2019 09:41

Please no quote thing. So difficult to follow pages of quotes. It gives rise to squabbles

Depends how it's implemented. People already quote people (like I just quoted you) – mumsnet could easily put a button that just copies, pastes and bolds the text for you, to save you having to do it manually. Would save people lots of clicking.

Sparklingbrook · 09/02/2019 09:34

Yes, please don't ask me how though it must be in settings somewhere. Grin

JoyceDivision · 09/02/2019 09:34

Stop putting ads midway through a thread as it is really annoying, there is starting to be more ads than posts. How much revenue is being raked in with this increased advertising space? It's a much less user friendly experience

Go back to the ads just at the bottom of the page.

gamerchick · 09/02/2019 09:33

I never use the @ function because I turned it off as soon as it came

You can turn it off? Mint! That tagging thing is well irritating.
