Active Threads : What is the real criteria? (as it is NOT activity)

Ta1kinPeace · 20/01/2019 19:54

If I click on Active threads I would expect to see the threads with the most posts in the last half hour
but I don't

there are INCREDIBLY active threads (running at a couple of hundred posts a day)
that hardly ever appear there

so what is the criteria?

And why do MNHQ actively keep certain topics away from quick links?

I agree with prettybird

Seems an odd call to make

And people report for all sorts of reasons!

SwedishEdith · 21/01/2019 19:48

Ah, I recognise Michael - unless there's more than one?

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 21/01/2019 19:45

A few, yes.

But it’s not the usual thing, there are AIBU threads with numerous deletions in Active.

A single dog thread has more deleted posts that most of of the Brexit ones put together.

prettybird · 21/01/2019 19:43

So if Brexiters/Leavers don't like a discussion and don't want it to be available to a wider audience, then all they have to do is report lots of posts HmmAngry

That's censorship Angry - especially because MNHQ insists on keeping the Brexit topic relatively hidden, so that people had to know where it is to find it Confused

If we wanted to make sure that people could find the Westministnder threads, could we keep posting in AIBU threads with titles like AIBU to let you know where the latest Westministender thread is and posting the link on it?

Can I go and report a load of posts on, say, the Anna Soubry webchat question thread and make sure that it never appears on Active conversations?

I've been on MN for 17 years; I've always defended it against accusations of censorship but I think that the current moderation is "not in the spirit of MN guidelines" (and yes, I am copying and pasting this post for my own records) Angry

SwedishEdith · 21/01/2019 19:41

Oh, there have been a few deleted posts. You're clearly not allowed to speculate on ukip members.

SwedishEdith · 21/01/2019 19:34

What's the logic with that? Is this because mn is after a Daily Mail demographic now?

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 21/01/2019 19:34

Really?

These threads have no deleted posts, how can they have lots of reports?

PestymcPestFace · 21/01/2019 19:34

Got to ask Michael..

Do you also note posters who have made more than an average amount of reports?
If so do you then give more or less weight to their reports?

You may not be intentionally applying censorship but depending of how you operate the policy, others could be applying it for you.

Greensleeves · 21/01/2019 19:26

When the fuck did this happen? How appalling.

MichaelMumsnet · 21/01/2019 15:37

Hi and thanks for the question.
Threads which have drawn lots of reports are less likely to be featured in the active threads area.

EggysMom · 20/01/2019 22:03

oooOOOooooo I've just looked at the "15 mins" threads and there are loads that I haven't seen before!

Ta1kinPeace · 20/01/2019 22:02

Westminsterenders is the main one
its at about 80 posts an hour

AuntieStella · 20/01/2019 21:57

I'm just curious, wondering what those covertly active threads are!

Ta1kinPeace · 20/01/2019 20:19

I'm watching some VERY active threads
that are not on the "active list"

Why does MNHQ censor what shows as hot topics ?

OP posts:
Ta1kinPeace · 20/01/2019 19:56

It's the 50 threads which have been posted on most recently (at the time you went into Active) isn't it?
No its not.
Hence why I'm asking

If you want all in the last 15mins (or whatever) there's a separate link
