Hey guys, thanks for reporting these dodgy ads. We've found and blocked all of the ads you've reported, please post any others you find.

We've recently been trying a different source of ads on Talk iOS, 99.9% of the ads have been fine, with some glaring exceptions! If for some reason we aren't able to clear up these kinds of ads in the future, we will return to the more reliable ad source.

As always, your feedback is really helpful, thank you!

PatricksRum · 31/12/2018 04:26

I keep seeing this, especially when in public 🙄 MNHQ need to do something.

mrsclausisdrunk · 31/12/2018 04:06

I keep getting fucking "50% off adoption" adverts.

As someone suffering from fertility issues it's not so great. Angry

VanGoghsDog · 31/12/2018 03:57

I use an ad blocker on the laptop but can't find a reliable one for the phone.

brizzledrizzle · 31/12/2018 03:22

This kind of crap advert is why I use an ad blocker on mn.

MargueritaPink · 31/12/2018 03:21

we have now blocked all dating ads

Dating ads?? Those aren't dating ads.

VanGoghsDog · 31/12/2018 03:16

I actually want one of those doorbells!

VanGoghsDog · 31/12/2018 03:15

That 'Lay Matures' is surely not a dating site, so blocking dating sites won't stop it.

I find all the ads are relevant to me, just now Hush and NowTFV but I generally get stuff I've looked at in the past or searched for on Amazon.

MargueritaPink · 31/12/2018 03:15

I wonder what I did to get this ?

AssassinatedBeauty of all inappropriate posters for that ad you must be amongst the top of the list.

The ads are dreadful. I used to be plagued by one for "ice thin silk boxers". Now I get lots of ads for what superficially look like the sort of dresses I wear but always turn out to be really cheap and 100% polyester.

I've had this one before ages ago, reported to HQ at the time but couldn't get a screen grab AT LEAST 6 months ago

Monty27 · 31/12/2018 02:47

Don't get me started about the ads on here Angry

goldengummybear · 31/12/2018 02:44

The ads for this company are all women with lots of cleavage.

goldengummybear · 31/12/2018 02:44

I've never searched dating or lesbian sites on this phone yet I keep getting this ad. Confused

DianaT1969 · 30/12/2018 21:23

@iRememberNow
That's useful to know. I haven't seen any decent ads on MN. All aesthetically poor and not relevant to my life. Is anyone seeing ads they are interested in?

FlissMumsnet · 30/12/2018 21:15

Hi GrandmaSharksDentures, we're so sorry you're still seeing this ad.

We'll take another run at this as clearly this isn't the type of ad many any of our users are interested in.

iRememberNow · 30/12/2018 21:04

I feel like some people misunderstand what a 'targeted ad' is.

Sometimes it's only targeted by things they have guessed about you, like your age or sex. As an example, if you visit a gaming site or download a pirated film, the advertisers might guess that you are a 16-21 year old male, so they will show you ads for porn, fake webcam/dating sites and so on.

If you have very strong privacy settings on your browser, they're even more likely to make a mistake, as they have very little information about you to go on.

They can also collect demographic info from your social media accounts. So say the OP's 17 year old son had recently used Gmail or Facebook - even if they signed out afterwards - the advertisers might think a 17 year old male was still on the computer.

Advertisers can collect much more specific and advanced data about you than this, such as your search terms, but many don't yet.

Site owners have the ability to block adult ads but some are not categorised correctly and slip through the net.

DioneTheDiabolist · 30/12/2018 20:53

I get ads for cruises for gay men.Xmas Confused

nicslackey · 30/12/2018 20:46

I don't get any ads. Adblock!

AssassinatedBeauty · 30/12/2018 20:30

All these types of ads are very down market, often with bad spelling or odd phrasing and it seems really out of kilter with Mumsnet as a brand. Of course the ones advertising women for sale (sorry, to "date") are beyond the pale, but the rest are just crummy. I presume that they must be making MNHQ plenty of money, to counteract the dreadful look?

DianaT1969 · 30/12/2018 19:40

People with infertility issues could probably do without this at the bottom of threads.
If it's an ad for baby gifts, why don't they just show baby gifts??

Hey @mumsnet I just got another one pop up??? Didn't manage a screenshot as it went back to the home screen!

TheCountryGirl · 28/12/2018 19:30

I got a lesbian dating advert earlier.

AssassinatedBeauty · 28/12/2018 19:11

Also, the earlier post from MNHQ implies they have some control given that they've blocked all dating adverts. I guess this advert isn't classified as dating....
