Could you explain the deletions for calling out racism please?

Some, but not all perhaps harshly worded, but how else do you say racism is shit? I am talking about the deletions on the thread about the golliwog mugs.

@SophieLMumsnet

As BlushingCrows says - we can't do much about what's said on other sites

Indeed. However despite the attempts at derailing I'd still like the MN view on the way the TG inadvertently enable discriminatory posts and "fake news" tropes to stand whilst restricting the ability to challenge them.

As per my post upthread - common tropes of racism/disablism/*ism-of-your-choice are regularly trotted out on these threads. Sometimes I've seen the same yarn several times within a week in different places.

So I can report that post:

  • You can't prove its a pack of lies, you are unlikely to delete it unless its a PBP and frankly its playing whack-a-mole sometimes
  • If I tell the PP "bollocks" I get deleted for breaking TG
  • If I say on thread that I think its a pack of lies I get deleted for troll hunting.

Net effect, *ist propaganda tropes are left to stand, implicitly approved by MN.

So how about where such issues are raised we are allowed to challenge the veracity/authenticity in public, just as the tropes are left to stand in public?

CoteDAzur · 14/05/2018 21:07

Nobody was talking about you there.

You are bringing up something that was an overreaction in the first place on a completely different forum, just to have a go at OP who is fighting the good fight here.

user789653241 · 14/05/2018 20:15

And I am not bothered about it at all, just sceptical of people who can do that trying to stand up for discrimination of any kind.

user789653241 · 14/05/2018 19:13

Thanks, Cote, but that is what happened, afterwards, there was lots of enlarged "tingling", "tingled", "spiderly tingled sense" etc, etc, after I said my ds had bad allergic reaction, by not the person I originally reacted to, but by others. Few even posted on someone else's thread on MN "tingling" to provoke my reaction assuming I was the OP, but, I wasn't. I know no one cares, but it is what really happened. You can see it all, if you look, unless they deleted all. Smile

CoteDAzur · 14/05/2018 17:37

"many people ridiculed me with the word "tingle", and mocked me"

That is not at all what happened.

And nobody cares about your grievances about another forum. Ffs give it up.

"it is very unlikely that anyone would say of a high achieving Cambridge educated white woman that “She was strutting around like a typist that has shagged the boss” Because while that is deeply misogynist, the extra edge of the implied “uppity-ness” is reserved for black women."

This is interesting and perhaps valid on a population level, but I have to say that there are counterexamples.

I am deathly pale in winter - as Caucasian as they come - and educated to graduate level. In a recent jury that I was heading as representative of the company that organised the event, I was introduced by one member to another as "X's wife" Hmm

It didn't seem relevant to that particular misogynist that aside from being DH's wife, I am also 50% owner in the company that he & I founded together, and that I am the one with the education and experience in that field while said husband has neither.

He is probably still wondering why he is pushed out of further participation in our company events. Asshole.

SophieLMumsnet · 14/05/2018 15:16

Hi all,

As BlushingCrows says - we can't do much about what's said on other sites, but if anyone has questions about posts on MN they'd like addressed then please do report to us or drop us a line at [email protected].

Thanks Flowers

BlushingCrows · 14/05/2018 00:44

Unfortunately a valid question appears to have been derailed due to some unknown vendettas. Perhaps those that have a complaint against posts on the Reddit sub should take them up on the sub, rather than bring them over to Mumsnet. MNHQ can't be expected to moderate across forums surely?

“There are thousands of allegations of women 'sleeping their way to the top' . So that comment really isn't a race issue no matter how much you want it to be“

Last time. It is “strutting” and “typist” that are the specific issues here. Of course women have always been accused of sleeping their way to the top.

As I said. janey, you don’t get it. That’s fine. I am aware from other threads that close analysis of societal behaviour isn’t your ‘thing’.

And yes, I know that referencing other threads isn’t done, but live by the sword, die by the sword.

No, not a clanger. Just realizing that you are not going to accept that, while white women are regularly targetted with misogynist abuse, it is very unlikely that anyone would say of a high achieving Cambridge educated white woman that “She was strutting around like a typist that has shagged the boss” Because while that is deeply misogynist, the extra edge of the implied “uppity-ness” is reserved for black women.

immortalmarble, I have been truthful from the start. I am not afraid to admit I was wrong if I was wrong, and I have made plenty of mistakes. It crossed my mind to erase all my history but I didn't. Because I have nothing to hide/be ashamed of myself for who I am. If people want to see my history, they are welcomed to. My intention is not to be unfair and try to discredit someone at all. But if they truly is what they say they are, then there's nothing to worry about.

Not quite.

People can and do discriminate. They shouldn’t, but they do.

However, when discrimination is challenged, things understandably can become heated and as such those posts are removed. This can have the effect of making threads loo sided in favour of posts which are ultimately expressing very distasteful views but are not breaking talk guidelines. Paxillin questioned this; MN have rectified it. Unfortunately, we now have an attempt to try and undermine pax’s credibility which is as unfair as it is unpleasant.

user789653241 · 13/05/2018 13:03

Isn't the purpose of this thread calling for not allowing discrimination?

BertrandRussell · 13/05/2018 12:54

Sorry?Who’s shouting discrimination?

user789653241 · 13/05/2018 12:53

C8H10N4O2 , you are not the only one on this thread, and I didn't say everyone on this thread. I am not talking about you at all.

user789653241 · 13/05/2018 12:50

immortalmarble, yes I know you didn't. But others did.

immortalmarble · 13/05/2018 12:48

No one did that irvine

As you know.
