Deletions due to being discussed elsewhere

Hi

I was wondering if this is going to be the case for all posts now? Can they be deleted just because they’re discussed elsewhere?

It’s a public forum of course all posts might be discussed elsewhere, that’s the risk you take when you post online.

Why doesn’t this happen when people’s threads end up on Facebook/twitter pages dedicated to slating MN users? Not to mention the scummy journos who lift entire threads on here but MNHQ are happy to keep them?

I thought you didn’t delete threads unless against guidelines etc? Is this going to be a new guideline? Must not be discussed on certain forums?

hough I do understand that it can be very confusing. Especially if you are thick. Or gullible

I am rubbish at spotting trolls, it doesn't make me thick or gullible

Weebo · 16/11/2017 08:12

Of course I know that Battle. I joked about it up thread.

And no I'm not er... tag teaming with anyone. I don't need too.

Battleax · 16/11/2017 08:09

Weeb you know to 99% of us it looks like you're talking madly to yourself about things only you can see?

Are you tag teaming with face?

Rufustherenegadereindeer1 · 16/11/2017 08:08

a complete lie, posted on Reddit, accepted by the thickos over there. It is amazing how grown adults can just believe what they read.

Youve just been telling us about people lying and trolls and people not being what they seem

Ive only got you saying that you havent got eleventy billion names and arent downvoting

Maybe you are lying?

Maybe i need a tin foil hat Sad would greaseproof paper do?

Weebo · 16/11/2017 08:05

I don't mean you btw Dipping.

In case it reads that way.

Weebo · 16/11/2017 08:04

Sigh.

Trolls should really look up the definition of doxxing before making up their latest instalments.

Is anyone still being suckered in by all of this?

Coconutspongexo · 16/11/2017 07:47

Ex I think it’s been around about 2 months? Not sure.

Coconutspongexo · 16/11/2017 07:46

On the actual thread posted on here on Tuesday or whenever it was I misinterpreted the thread.

I asked something like ‘is no one concerned about the student? Are they not vulnerable?’ (Unaware of the age group)

I wouldn’t have known it wasn’t someone underage if it wasn’t for that Reddit group.

I did apologise to OP on that thread too but it was deleted not long after. People misinterpret stuff on here all the time and make wild assumptions.

9 times out of 10 threads off her are linked and then stashed so the majority of the time people can see if it’s true

Isnt stash relatively new? It wasn’t there when I was I don’t think.

RandomDreams · 16/11/2017 07:42

I think the lesson to be learnt is only divulge so much information online no one has a clue who is reading what you post.

That doesn't stop people from making up bollocks and deliberately misinterpreting what posters have said though does it?

Coconutspongexo · 16/11/2017 07:36

9 times out of 10 threads off her are linked and then stashed so the majority of the time people can see if it’s true.

I think only one person on the Reddit Is comfortable with the whole mis interpretation of the thread as she’s been asked to edit it by the mods and other posters and she doesn’t want to - no one can force her.

I think the lesson to be learnt is only divulge so much information online no one has a clue who is reading what you post.

OP posts:
RandomDreams · 16/11/2017 07:36

They really have no reading comprehension skills over at the other place.

There's yet another thread over there where made up bollocks is being posted.

I must admit though, I am enjoying the squirming.

exLtEveDallas · 16/11/2017 07:32

As a sometime lurker on Reddit (when I still thought it was a good idea) I saw a number of posters say XXX about other MNers (usually ‘royalty’ types) that could not be verified and I firmly believe were out and out bollocks. Funnily enough each time it happens there was the disclaimer “had all her posts withdrawn” “was in chat” “can’t remember what name she was using to AS” when asked for proof.

It made me realise that actually, Reddit took an awful lot of the MN trolls with them (but now I’ve read this thread, made not a lot of MN trolls, just one Redditor with lots of names)

And it’s happening now with the MNer this thread is about I see - lots of “but it’s her own fault, she said XYZ before” when it cannot be proved either way.

Reddit seemed like a lot of fun at the start, not so much now.

exLtEveDallas · 16/11/2017 07:25

Like communicating with people in alternative universes or timelines?

Ooh it’s Narnia all over again, just using a different platform

CoteDAzur · 16/11/2017 07:24

Liney Grin

CoteDAzur · 16/11/2017 07:23

Astrid - Good post. I agree with most of it, but these points are not correct:

“Doxx posters”

There’s no doxxing in the Reddit sub. It seems to be the only deleteable offense, in fact.

“Misrepresent posters, blatantly lie about them if they want to and in the case of posters who have had their histories removed on MN it's pretty difficult to either prove or disprove anything either way, so again something just becomes accepted as 'truth' because it says so on Reddit.”

In the most recent case of Euph-whatshername, OP of that thread over on Reddit was told repeatedly that her accusations are wrong. She refused to delete those comments but it’s there for all to see that the misrepresentations didn’t just “become accepted as truth”, as you say.

I like it that threads & posts don’t get deleted over there, so you can actually see for yourself what happened, and history doesn’t get rewritten.

SoupDragon · 16/11/2017 07:22

I’m saying that you would have to consistently posts hugely unpopular comments for your overall karma to go negative

Or be a poster they don't like.

LineysRum · 16/11/2017 07:19

So people can use to this thread to talk to banned compromised people on the thread in the other place, and bring their replies back across to here?

Like communicating with people in alternative universes or timelines?

And this communication architecture and its source code hasn't been destroyed by The Agents yet?

That's spiritual, man.

CoteDAzur · 16/11/2017 07:14

“So Cote, if I toddled off to the MN subreddit and registered, and posted something that many over there would disagree with (I can't think what I could post to make that happen smile), then you are saying it wouldn't be all that easy for the regular posters who disagreed with me to downvote me out of sight? ”

I’m saying that you would have to consistently posts hugely unpopular comments for your overall karma to go negative, and that is when you would need to wait a bit between posts. Not if one or two if your posts are downvoted.

You would need to go around posting “You are all twats” etc on each thread... which I realise would not be a problem for you Wink

Coconutspongexo · 16/11/2017 06:56

Okay I’ve been In work all night and honestly didn’t expect any progress at all on this thread.

If anyone wants to find me on Reddit I’ve said it numerous times my name is the same on both.

Farce are you purposely trying to threaten to out people? Considering you can complle a lot of info on Reddit? & saying they need to be carefu? Hmm no one on Reddit has ever threatened to out anyone so who’s the ‘mean’ one now?

OP posts:
AstridWhite · 16/11/2017 05:25

Yes, it is a sub that is hosted on Reddit, but that doesn't mean anything re audience. The only way anyone would find it among all those thousands of subs on Reddit is by searching for "Mumsnet" and then they would find Mumsnet itself before they find that sub anyway.

Thanks for pointing this out, looks like there might have been a bit of misunderstanding here, we used the term 'wider' to describe an audience outside of Mumsnet, not necessarily larger. Sorry for any confusion - in short, we're just about doing what we can to make parent's lives easier.

I think whether the Reddit sub reaches a 'wider' or a 'larger' audience and compromises posters' privacy is beside the point really. It's easy for MNHQ to use that line as an easily digestible way of explaining why they are uncomfortable with the Reddit sub but it's just skirting around the real issue which is that the Reddit sub has found a genius way to completely and utterly subvert the MN Talk guidelines.

The posters on Reddit can, and frequently do,

Troll hunt (some of them are shit hot at it, frankly)

Have massive slanging matches where vicious personal attacks are thrown around with impunity

Make super sleuthy connections between user names both on MN and the Reddit sub and accuse poster X or also being Y and Z. Sometimes they are probably right, but often they are completely wrong. However if enough people shout it loudly and often enough it becomes generally accepted to be true, which is a PITA.

Drag up past posting histories and pick apart posters' stories

Doxx posters

Misrepresent posters, blatantly lie about them if they want to and in the case of posters who have had their histories removed on MN it's pretty difficult to either prove or disprove anything either way, so again something just becomes accepted as 'truth' because it says so on Reddit.

And .....and nothing. They just can. Confused

This is has to be a turning point for MNHQ. They are going to have to make a change somewhere if they are going to be able to take back any control of this.

Either:

MNHQ amend their Talk Guidelines so that it is no longer against the rules to openly troll hunt or to question an OP about conflicting info in past threads. It won't be pretty and it won't be 'supportive' or 'all about making parents' lives easier' but plenty of other fora manage just fine like that, Reddit being one of them.

Or:

MNHQ change their policy to say they will consistently delete ALL threads that are reported to them as having been linked to, discussed or lifted either wholly or in part by ALL third parties on ANY other internet or media platform.

Or:

MNHQ start deleting threads completely arbitrarily, without any justification or explanation to us lot. If they don't like the whiff of something going down on Reddit then ZAP! No lip service attempt at showing they've followed self-imposed strict guidelines or consistent policies on deletions. Cue some wailing accusations of a fascist dictatorship with Justine as the new Robert Mugabe, but so what? It's her site. Don't like it? Leave.

Or:

They alter this forum to allow posters to edit their posts or to delete threads they've started altogether.

Weebo · 16/11/2017 01:22

I think I know who you mean by 'the other one' Farse.

They definitely have the same whiff about them as the main troll.

Though with a bit of luck they might have finally noticed the troll. At least the main troll.

I wonder how long before they find the link to the other one. Who is really the same one. Though I do understand that it can be very confusing. Especially if you are thick. Or gullible.

Dunno Jane, there seem to be a lot of them.

Seriously going to bed now.
