They are people with mental health problems. That's why MN need to spend some of that hefty profit on asking experts to help them identify posters what are either trolls, or are unstable and are not going to benefit from posting here because it is not a replacement for proper psychological intervention.

I think that's being very generous to trolls who are mentally fine but just out for kicks. And very unfair to people with mental health issues who manage to not do this sort of shit.

derxa · 27/08/2017 21:21

Anyone who trolls about a bereavement is sick in the head. Yes to this. But I believe there is a general sickness in SM. All these people who make death/rape threats online. What is in their heads? 'Comedians' like Frankie Boyle suggesting that Harvey Price would rape his mother.

I have had this discussion with them before, so am frustrated that this David thing happened. I previously had such a high opinion of Justine/MN, but when this keeps happening, it is hard to keep positive.

IfYouGoDownToTheWoodsToday · 27/08/2017 17:27

Yes, they are indeed sick in the head Park.
I always imagine them to be nasty little people with no friends or family.

ThumbWitchesAbroad · 27/08/2017 16:54

Yep - there was another one a few hours ago. Awful thing to troll about.

So sorry about your DD, Park

ParkheadParadise · 27/08/2017 16:48

I've had great SUPPORT from poster's in the past when I needed it.

It's sad that now, I wouldn't comment on what could be a genuine Poster looking for support for fear of finding out its a troll.

Anyone who trolls about a bereavement is sick in the head.

ClashCityRocker · 27/08/2017 16:17

Actually, MNHQ have seemed really on the ball today - I'm glad about that, and hope they keep it up!

DamnFineCherryPie · 27/08/2017 16:11

This reply has been deleted

Message withdrawn at poster's request.

ClashCityRocker · 27/08/2017 16:07

Im so sorry park.

Looks like there's been another of the sick bastards on today - which seems to have been dealt with by MNHQ so that seems a positive step.

Fucking emotional vampires.

PandorasXbox · 27/08/2017 14:47

I'm so sorry Park, how awful for you. That's the very worst effect a troll can have - getting someone who has lost a child to participate in a thread, giving their own terrible experience when they're at their most vulnerable, to find out the poster is a troll is extremely hurtful.

Take care Flowers

Christinayangstwistedsista · 27/08/2017 14:32

Park I'm so sorry

IfYouGoDownToTheWoodsToday · 27/08/2017 14:21

Park I'm so sorry about your DD and can understand why you feel as you do.

I too have just received a personal reply after reporting a troll. It is so much better to be responded to. (And it was a troll and was deleted)

BunnyNeeded · 27/08/2017 13:46
  • so many
BunnyNeeded · 27/08/2017 13:45

parkhead Flowers. How dreadful, I'm so sorry.

It was dreadful on the D thread, that soa y people were reliving their losses.

Rufustherenegadereindeer1 · 27/08/2017 12:43

Oooh just seen the more individual deletion messages

Is that new?

Much better

ParkheadParadise · 27/08/2017 12:18

ClashCityRocker totally agree
I was taken in by a troll on here. My dd died in the same upsetting circumstances as she described her ds had died. It really upset me. After the dodgy D fiasco Sadly now I don't really believe anything I read on here.

ibbleobbleblackbubble · 27/08/2017 12:18

As much as they want us to see ourselves as shoplifters in Boots the truth is that in their view we are a crop and they want to harvest the shit out of Us.

endehors · 27/08/2017 12:05

I've just bumped into one of the 'harmless' trolls, mentioned on Reddit, on another thread (one of the Walter Mitty trolls, but unpleasant with it) I didn't say anything of course, but it is tempting.

ibbleobbleblackbubble · 27/08/2017 12:02

Oh and then to try to flog us a book of our own comments about bloody nits
Really?
did they really do that?
ha ha ha
Fucking brass neck!
more front than Woolworths!
They really do like to milk us don't they
What a bunch of parasites Mumsnet headquarters is
Cockroaches?
tapeworm more like😁

Mmzz · 27/08/2017 12:01

I suspect promoting the nits book on the site was part of the contract with the publishers.
It strikes a bad note now but it probably seemed like a good deal when the contract was signed a few months ago

ClashCityRocker · 27/08/2017 12:01

There were definitely paragraphs in that!

Oh well, I'm just procrasting about doing the dishes anyway.

ClashCityRocker · 27/08/2017 12:00

I don't think there is any such thing as a harmless troll.

Threads encouraging users to share information about embarrassing bodily functions and accidents are quite possibly playing in to the hands of someone who gets aroused by that sort of shit.

When such threads are deleted (poo troll anyone?) many users will feel uncomfortable that they have shared a personal incident in the hope of offering op support only to find that the op is a troll.

And once you've been taken in, you're suspicious of everything. People avoid posting on anything but the most trivial of threads and content takes a nose dive.

I try and give most people the benefit of doubt but always remind myself 'would I be happy posting this if it turned out that it was a troll?'

Troll threads, regardless of how seemingly harmless, ruin the integrity of a forum. It also, of course, gives rise to troll-hunting (and I do mean that in the literal sense, rather than just raising concerns or asking pertinent questions) which is also not great...again this impacts on content as people become reluctant to post anything too interesting due to the risk of being called out as a troll.

There does need to be more of a reaction to reports rather than the feeling that they are just disappearing into the ether - I see MNHQ are trying to address this which is a positive step, they just need to continue with it rather than hoping that it's a phase that will blow over.

endehors · 27/08/2017 11:58

Oh and then to try to flog us a book of our own comments about bloody nits shock. It's unbelievable.

I saw that elsewhere and thought it was a joke! I didn't mind the recipe book, though

MsGameandWatching · 27/08/2017 11:42

She's out of touch, like the Queen Grin

PandorasXbox · 27/08/2017 11:41

I doubt very much Justine isn't up to date with the David fiasco.
