Where has it gone?

Damn, we can't seem to find the page you were looking for. Sorry about that - we'll fix it as soon as we can. In the meantime, try these options:

Mine now seems to be fixed! Or at least Employment threads I'm on are now appearing on it. Huzzah!

Chewbecca · 01/09/2017 09:13

Aha, glad I have found this as it was driving me mad to not know what's happened on threads I've posted on. It still is driving me mad but I am glad I am not alone.

I'm posting in the vain hope that this thread will now show in my TIW/T
IO and I'll see updates but who knows...

TheDrsDocMartens · 30/08/2017 17:47

Is there a reason it's so hard to make it do what it did before?

Btw, the threads I am posting in are not on the threads you are watching so can't access them that way either....

MyRedPepper · 30/08/2017 10:41

I don't understand what's going on MNHQ.

Some threads are still there and appearing.
Some appear once or twice and then disappear again. They are not hidden threads or hidden subjects.

flowery · 30/08/2017 08:45

@KatherineMumsnet any chance of an update please? The length of time this is taking to get sorted is becoming quite ridiculous, and just an acknowledgement and a timescale would be nice. It's a complete pain not having any Employment threads on my threads I'm on.

Stillwaitingforsummer · 25/08/2017 07:52

Please can mnhq clarify what I need to do so that all the threads I'm on show when I click on the 'I'm on' button? Thanks

Stillwaitingforsummer · 23/08/2017 22:47

I've still not got all the tio showing?

flowery · 23/08/2017 18:30

What's the timescale for topics I haven't hidden showing on threads I'm on, as per my post earlier? I have not hidden Employment but those threads I'm on in that topic are still not showing.

Cross-post, ItsAllGoingToBeFine! If you post on a thread, it will automatically watch it for you.

KatherineMumsnet · 23/08/2017 16:24

We hope to have this done soon, but we can't offer a timescale yet.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 23/08/2017 16:22

oing to make it so that TIO/TIW still show threads from hidden topics (if you choose to watch them)

Just to clarify - do we actively need to watch them, or is simply posting on the thread sufficient?

BertieBotts · 23/08/2017 16:11

Brilliant. Thank you!

KatherineMumsnet · 23/08/2017 16:09

Sorry for my helpfully confusing post! SO - we're speaking to tech and we're going to make it so that TIO/TIW still show threads from hidden topics (if you choose to watch them). You will then be free hide entire topics but still follow threads that you want to keep up with.

Slimthistime · 23/08/2017 15:59

I'm still confused
I thought things being hidden from TIW was an accident!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 23/08/2017 15:52

Bertie is spot on.
Especially given I didn't actually hide the topics that were hidden!

Slimthistime · 23/08/2017 15:41

hello Katherine

Sorry, I'm not clear - I would like for the previous display to be restored, is that what you mean?

Thanks!

KatherineMumsnet · 23/08/2017 15:07

Thanks for feedback everyone - we hear you! Is there a consensus here; would everyone like for this to happen?

Likewise I can see the logic of hidden topics being gone from Last X mins.

But it doesn't make any sense to hide them from areas which are made up of opt-in threads in the first place.

I'm not really sure about this hidden topic thing. Why would somebody want to hide a topic from TIO/TIW? The topic isn't going to appear in there in the first place unless you post in it or opt in to watching it. It makes sense to be able to hide individual threads, but this was a way of "opting in" to single threads within a mostly hidden topic. Would you be willing to do a canvas of opinion on this? I know that loads of us a while back were using hiding threads to curate what we see on Active, since the site is now so, well, active, but now it seems we can't do that without opting out of a topic entirely.

Here are some examples of why a poster might wish to opt into a single thread within a topic while having most of the threads in that topic hidden:

  • Somebody posting in a long-term TTC support thread on Conception might find it difficult to see all of the threads in active with newbies asking "Am I pregnant?" or "It's been three months, why am I not pregnant yet?" Long term TTC doesn't always fit into Infertility. (And likewise, if somebody has a very specific infertility issue, they might not be interested in general threads about IVF or specific tests they haven't got to yet.)
  • The Antenatal and Postnatal club threads are all very active, but you normally only want to join one at a time, and hide all of the rest. It's easier to hide the topic but opt in to your relevant thread, than try to keep up with hiding all of the others individually.
  • Topics like Bereavement, Mental Health or Miscarriage, again, a poster may have a personal support thread, but not wish to come across stories of other people suffering similarly as they may find it too sensitive at that time.
  • Following a certain thread in Telly Addicts for one programme you are watching without having to see threads about loads of other programmes (Same for things like General Health, Books, Style and Beauty, etc)
  • Some posters opt to hide certain controversial topics such as AIBU, Feminism or Sex so that they don't get drawn into arguments, but occasionally decide that they are feeling strong and/or interested enough to enter the topic and post or comment on something, in which case they'd probably want updates to that thread.
  • Lastly, there are at least two topics - OTBT and MNers with SN - which don't ever appear in active and don't appear to be opt-in-able.

It would be very time consuming to have to remember every single thread I've posted on in every section I've hidden and go and search manually in the section (some of which are quite busy) for each one. Yet simply approving everything into Active makes Active unusable due to the number of uninteresting threads.

If for some reason you're really seriously committed to this idea of hiding whole topics from TIO/TIW/TIS then would you consider adding another option for reducing what's visible in Active, like a "Favourite Topics" function perhaps?
