Can we have a board for people to rant about trans stuff?

Because I'm sick of clicking on a thread in aibu or chat and seeing vile being sprouted when the title gave no inclination that it was another anti-trans thread. It's getting boring now.

OP posts:

Nope. This affects everyone, and disproportionately affects women. It is fucking tragic that so many have been suckered into believing that ANY questioning of the doctrine is "hatred". It is dangerous zealotry and bullshit.

I saw the mastectomy thread and thought: how will the acolytes justify this one?
But naturally, they couldn't didn't. Just the usual spluttering about so-called transphobia, all of which boils down to " SHUT UP".

The average Joe on the street thinks transgenderism starts and ends with lovely Hayley Cropper off Coronation Street (played, of course, by a woman). Truth matters, even if it is ugly.

ChasingHighs · 29/07/2017 10:39

I just hide them. They just go round and round in circles and no one has anything new to say.

Sparklingbrook · 29/07/2017 10:36

Just hide the threads. Everything seems to be posted in AIBU now. 'For traffic'. Hmm

SaskiaRembrandtWasFramed · 29/07/2017 10:18

'I think this erosion of debate and freedom of speech, alongside the bill itself, is the single most terrifying thing to happen in my lifetime. And I'm old enough to remember a lot of scary stuff'

I agree! And it's combined with the ideology that dismisses reality, facts and expert knowledge, and a belief in the idea that all opinions are equally valid. It's not just on this issue, this mindset is pervasive.

AssignedMentalAtBirth · 29/07/2017 10:08

Think the OP has flounced

JigglyTuff · 29/07/2017 10:05

Next to any post there is a handy report button. Click on it if you spot anything transphobic. It's that simple :)

AncientRain · 29/07/2017 10:02

Why dont we have a section just for hand wringing
Then you can all be together, not engaging in any discussion, whining about the nasty women who don't recognise a penis as a female body part

SuburbanRhonda · 29/07/2017 10:00

Oh yes I think I did Blush

treaclesoda · 29/07/2017 09:58

Right now in the UK in 2017 there is the potential for a law to be introduced that could potentially endanger women and girls. All women and girls. That's half the population. And yet attempts to discuss it are being shouted down as bigotry and hatred. And if the law is passed it will be all but impossible to reverse.

I think this erosion of debate and freedom of speech, alongside the bill itself, is the single most terrifying thing to happen in my lifetime. And I'm old enough to remember a lot of scary stuff.

BeyondDrinksAndKnowsThings · 29/07/2017 09:52

I think you may have misread my post, rhonda Grin

ApplesinmyPocket · 29/07/2017 09:50

No thanks. Shoved off and hidden away so the sleep-walking into our new post-truth world can carry on unchallenged?

Can't put it better than U2HastheEdge "...our fears about what this means for women and currently they are discussing a child who just had a double mastectomy. If these things don't bother you good for you. Just press the back button."

SuburbanRhonda · 29/07/2017 09:45

Cause I'm bloody sick of reading them, yet can't resist clicking on them when I see them.

So clearly the problem is your lack of self-control, not the lack of a separate topic for trans threads

EyeHalveASpellingChequer · 28/07/2017 20:46

ChardonnaysPrettySister

There's actually just been a suggestion for a neighbours/parking topic!

BeyondDrinksAndKnowsThings · 28/07/2017 19:39

I wouldn't hold your breath op, I'm still waiting for a response to my asking for a board for everyone who whinges about there being too many trans threads on mn.

Cause I'm bloody sick of reading them, yet can't resist clicking on them when I see them. And it seems like there's a new one every other day atm. Why shouldn't these posters have an area where they can whine to their hearts content, and I can just hide it so I don't have to see it?!

yallcrazy · 28/07/2017 15:56

I think MNHQ should define what is and isn't transphobia.

And that posters who aren't interested (or are too #blessed #love #bliss to care about it) should hide the threads, like I do on anything I don't like.

FerretsAreFeminists · 28/07/2017 15:31

*on board

FerretsAreFeminists · 28/07/2017 15:30

@HoneyIshrunktheBiscuit and @Xeneth88 what 'disgusting' and 'vile' comments are you referring to here?

I've said this several times before but I'll say it again; why are people always so keen to tell us how horrible and transphobic we are but are never able to show us where all this alleged transphobia occurred?

If people actually told us what the problem is then we'd be more likely to take what you're saying on boards and try to understand where you're coming from.

Mrsmorton · 28/07/2017 14:49

Can you spout an adjective? Confused

I bet you turn the news off when it gets a bit hard for your brain OP. Fingers in your ears shouting lalalala...

AssignedMentalAtBirth · 28/07/2017 14:34

It's a thinly veiled attempt to close the gender debate down. Again.

SunnySkiesSleepsintheMorning · 28/07/2017 14:29

Ridiculous. We can't have a board for everything. I, for one, am sick of the parking threads. I don't read them. Even if I click to read and then find I don't like them, I click off. It's easy.

differenteverytime · 28/07/2017 14:05

I've seen plenty of bigoted anti-trans ranting, but very little of it on MN.

The trouble is that discourse on trans issues is already toxic and polarised. Not least because, when legitimate concern is expressed about the way the most extreme wing of transactivism is having its agenda bulldozed into law, and the ensuing risks to women, children, lesbians, gay men, and many ordinary trans people, it's being howled down as bigotry. Or shut down and marginalised, as you would like it to be on MN.

It's perfectly possible to deplore Donald Trump's bigoted, bull-headed statements about trans people being banned from the military, whilst simultaneously being alarmed at children being physically and hormonally altered at ever-younger ages, and wanting to talk about how fairness can be achieved in competitive sport. Dismissing it all as 'ranting' will only serve to further polarise the discussion, which in turn will give more credence to the genuine bigots.

drinkingtea · 28/07/2017 13:42

Yes to banning misleadingly titled threads though, and ones only entitled "Am I being unreasonable?" Wink

drinkingtea · 28/07/2017 13:40

There are very few "anti trans" threads, just anti radical transactivist threads and threads opening MN ers eyes to the misogyny and child abuse and erosion of women's rights happening in the name of trans rights.

Saying threads drawing attention to the fact children are being sterilised and surgically altered, vulnerable women are being put into prisons with in tact males, laws are being passed to say female to male transgender people cannot benefit from inheritance laws favouring men whilst physically in tact male to female transgender people must be given access to women's refuges etc is anti trans is as inaccurate as saying being anti Islamic State is anti Islam.

Some people seem incapable or unwilling to understand that it is possible to be angry about political extremists who cause real harm, but tolerant of moderate individuals minding their own business.

AssassinatedBeauty · 28/07/2017 13:35

How on earth do you propose forcing people to stick to using that topic? Who decides if the topic of a thread is unacceptable and must be banished to your proposed topic? Would you ask MNHQ to make sure they don't appear in Active and Trending as well?

isupposeitsverynice · 28/07/2017 13:27

The worst thread title is the AIBU titled "Am I being unreasonable..." should be grounds for insta-ban tbh
