i thought it was done to educate people on children with disabilities...
yet here we are with thread 13 about CG full of rubberneckers making disablist comments about brain damage Or should I say ignorant comments.
why is mn hq not saying hang on a minute this isn't in the spirit of the site and reminding posters of the TIMC Campaign .

i do not repeatedly go on the threads, i have posted a few times. as there are 13 threads to date. I am not going to post on them all!!
i have read enough to know that they are not helpful. they give only one side of a debate and the comments about brain damage are often ignorant.
friendlysnakehere I have an adult child with severe cp and yep that is caused by brain damage(hate that term) so each to their own.

How can people comment unless they have read the thread?

Also, it's useful to read the CA Facebook page too for context, although since the judges comments, some of the most abusive posts against GOSH staff have been removed.

NellieBuff · 21/07/2017 12:03

I haven't read those threads but this sounds awful May I suggest that you read them and you will see that it is in no way a witch hunt or disablist and that everyone is full of compassion for Charlie and his parents.

TinselTwins · 21/07/2017 11:56

I haven't read those threads but this sounds awful
have a look then.
and please do point out and report any disblist comments you find on there. I think you'll struggle to do that though. However I don't mind being corrected/educated.

BeyondDrinksAndKnowsThings · 21/07/2017 11:54

There have been disabilist posts, and they have been reported and deleted. They have been a tiny tiny minority though imo. I don't think the discussion itself is disabilist, or I wouldn't be part of it (it is interesting to me personally as a good chunk of my degree is focussed on inaccurate media reporting of health/science news)

But perhaps my interpretation is wrong - that does happen! I'm happy to be corrected.

Ontopofthesunset · 21/07/2017 11:51

You ought to read them then because they are nothing like this thread suggests.

It's not disablist, you repeatedly go on them and say that they are.

It's a discussion of a huge media campaign, ethical debate and legal issue.

How dare you try to yet again shut it down with your basic interpretation.

I have a child with severe disabilities and it is helping me work through my personal thoughts on her welfare.

Kilabee21 · 21/07/2017 11:37

Yes they call it a debate, I call it a witch hunt and extreme discrimination of kids and parents of kids with severe disabilities, a huge insult.

DonkeyOaty · 21/07/2017 11:34

The threads are not of themselves disablist. Read Sam's OP again. Disablist and ignorant comments.

SumThucker · 21/07/2017 11:33

Nice of you to link this to the 13th Charlie Gard thread Mamagin.

TheWeeWitch · 21/07/2017 11:31

The CG threads are not disablist. They consist of a wide ranging debate about a current, very complex issue.

Kilabee21 · 21/07/2017 11:30

I agree.

Mamagin · 21/07/2017 11:24

I have read through every one of the Charlie Gard threads. In each one I have only seen sympathy towards the child and his parents.
There have been numerous posts saying the difference between living with a disability and being able to enjoy life, and the terminal genetic illness that Charlie is suffering from.
Many posts from people expert in their fields. These threads have been informative and compassionate.
Where have they been 'disablist'?

SumThucker · 21/07/2017 11:14

I agree too.

Polter · 21/07/2017 11:14

I agree too.

PortiaCastis · 21/07/2017 11:07

I agree

Dawndonnaagain · 21/07/2017 11:04

I agree. It's bloody insulting and hurtful as well as disablist.
