Hello there!

We would like to cordially invite you all to join us this coming Sunday, June 18, for a Great Get Together - in memory of the late Jo Cox MP, and in support of her family's organisation, More In Common, which aims to get us all to celebrate the things that unite us.

So whether you're reasonable or unreasonable, whether you have or have not Googled penguin bollards, and whether or not you think the OP should have cashed the cheque, we'd love to see you all here on Sunday around midday.

There will be PRIZES, chatting and amusing gifs (courtesy of AliceDMumsnet's 'solid gold gifs' folder). Please bring your best children's jokes, pictures of any kittens who have recently adopted you, and heartwarming stories of love and friendship across the divide (Netmums).

BYO booze. Folk dancing will not be tolerated in the shallow end.

(If you'd rather go to an event near you and meet other people face-to-face, check out the Great Get Together's listings of thousands of events across the UK here.)

Love
MNHQ

Sass,

AutumnalLeaves38 · 18/06/2017 13:58

RowanMumsnet,

Do you know, that's spookily how I'd always pictured you Grin

MrsHathaway · 18/06/2017 13:57

I think they were all so embarrassed about not having given up a seat in the first place that they had to pretend they didn't know what was going on. Standing passengers couldn't have been nicer. It was far safer on the floor.

SassynSane · 18/06/2017 13:57

Looking good RowanMN Grin still not getting out of collective despacito though!!!!!

fruitbats · 18/06/2017 13:56

Can you start us off Sassy and we'll join in with the chorus

RowanMumsnet · 18/06/2017 13:55

Photo of us having a nice sit-down during the clog-dancing rehearsal

MrsH I can't believe nobody gave you a seat! What arses. Someone nearly fainted on my train a couple of weeks ago and about 12 nice young men leapt up and practically had a fight about where she should sit

Oh please can we have a collective chorus of despacito on the karaoke? It will cheer me and my stapled thumb up no end!!! Grin

OhYouBadBadKitten · 18/06/2017 13:50

that's horrid MrsH :(

AutumnalLeaves38 · 18/06/2017 13:49

Great choice, Tress.

(We'll ignore those Rugby Club blokes slurring the chorus from outside the Beer Tent) Wink

MrsHathaway · 18/06/2017 13:48

I've told this before, but:

Commuting on Metrolink bigly and obviously pregnant looking like Mr Greedy, there were no seats and every seated person was carefully avoiding eye contact. Aisles rammed with standing passengers so couldn't go hunting.

Fainted.

Still couldn't get a seat - despite best efforts of other standing passengers. Cried all the way to work.

...

I work from home nowadays. Only experience congestion if cats demand Dreamies on my way to the office.

@AutumnalLeaves38

Are all the MNHQers limbering up for your Clog Morris formation display?

We're agog with anticipation.

Of course, Autumnal - we're just sewing the jingly bells on our costumes, will be ready to start any minute...

TressiliansStone · 18/06/2017 13:44

Ooh, don't want to clash with the karaoke! Off you go, fruitbats!

TressiliansStone · 18/06/2017 13:43

"Perfect Day" - Lou Reed

fruitbats · 18/06/2017 13:42

Who wants to go first?

DawnMumsnet · 18/06/2017 13:42

@OhYouBadBadKitten

ooooh yes to the public transport. Yesterday was hideous!

Poor Dawn Gin

Ah, cheers, BadBadKitten - it was actually quite a calm shift, all told. Have had worse ones!

AdaColeman · 18/06/2017 13:42

Have you started to recover yet Dawn ? You'd better have some more Gin Gin Gin

OhYouBadBadKitten · 18/06/2017 13:42

It was like that yesterday Rowan. Both in and out of London. At one point yesterday I was congratulating myself for finding a spot sat on the floor. Until a man parked his rather large bottom inches from my head.

Let's not think about these horrid things. Wine

RowanMumsnet · 18/06/2017 13:38

On a very hot day last summer I was on a hugely overcrowded commuter train that came to a complete stop outside Vauxhall and just sat there for 20 minutes. Drops of other people's sweat were landing on my arms, aaargh

I think that bit is the added hair miracle grower Autumnal. All I know is that on the odd occasion I trail in at 3am and feel the urge to keep drinking it gets dragged out of the cupboard....and then I don't really care about anything after the first glass Grin

AdaColeman · 18/06/2017 13:37

Ooohhh! Thanks Autumnal I've got myself a tie-dye purple & pink skirt and a floppy straw hat, I'm 17 again!! hahaha

TressiliansStone · 18/06/2017 13:36

OK, home thoughts from abroad:

  • dearest Auntie Beeb, I never knew how good you were till I missed you
  • good cheese
  • greyness and rain

Home thoughts from home:

  • self-deprecating humour
  • tea as the cure for all ills
  • scorching sunshine and glowing pink bodies Shock
AutumnalLeaves38 · 18/06/2017 13:36

Kate,

Don't dare post my obvious comment to that...might get me chucked off the thread Grin

MrsHathaway · 18/06/2017 13:36

To get you started: we hereby demand that everyone who posts on this thread either...

c) give us the story of your day so far in five words.

Sorry, here's my entry fee:

Lie-in
Football
Sunshine
Picnic
