HQ. Please. Make a decision about the ads. Either make them less intrusive or give us an option to pay a sub and get rid of them.

I'm on laptop, mobile on phone and sometimes Ipad. They make the site unusable and I'm going to be investigating an adblock today.

I am sure that is not what you want - I understand the need for ads to generate revenue, but when they are so intrusive that they interfere with the ability to use the site then you've gone a bit too far in the wrong direction.

Also, I wouldn't buy anything that is advertised like that, in an intrusive ad that pisses me off, because instead of thinking fluffy warm thoughts about the product being advertised, I'm thinking "FUCK THE FUCK OFF YOU ANNOYING TWAT" which I am sure is not the intention of the advertiser.

Angie, what about the UX and data issues?

Aren't your analytics people worried? Because I would be.

GrumpySusan · 25/05/2017 08:14

I've got ads in the middle and down the side this morning, not sure if it's already been said!

This is a sensitive thread about a baby who was very poorly in SCBU and other members are posting about their experiences. This was the ad. Hardly what someone wants to see when they're worried their little one might never come home again.

Hi HeadShouldersYonisAndToes

Really sorry about the ads in sensitive areas, we are looking into that right now.

Once again, sorry.

ophiotaurus · 25/05/2017 07:53

They don't care. Plain and simple. The scroll past comment confirmed that.

HeadShouldersYonisAndToes · 25/05/2017 07:45

Also what happened to ads not appearing on sensitive topics like Bereavement? Have just had a look and that massive fucking tiger popped up.

Cadsuane · 25/05/2017 07:41

My Samsung browser update the other day and it suggested several add blockers when I opened it. I now have nice calming blanks on the page.
I was prepared to put up with a certain level of adds but it has now gone too far. If I was on my old data plan I would have run out of data now less than half way through the month. And I will now be able to see if it is my battery that's failing or just Mumsnet eating all my power.

Loopytiles · 25/05/2017 07:15

Very pissed off with these huge ads costing me data! Will look into an ad blocker.

myusernameisnotmyusername · 25/05/2017 00:32

Just to add I was trying to read a thread on my phone and there was a strip right across it that I couldn't drag out of the way. Every time I moved the screen up I couldn't read what was in the middle. It was really annoying.

LiviaDrusillaAugusta · 25/05/2017 00:23

Lineys That has just made me laugh BlushGrin

LiviaDrusillaAugusta · 25/05/2017 00:22

Getting ridiculous now - this was a sensitive thread...

Even with ad blocker there is just a massive white space in the middle of the thread

LineysRun · 25/05/2017 00:22

I think it's a massive cock-up. Like when your mate says they'll edit your work Twitter account for you because you're too busy and they're a social media expert, so you give them your password, and the next thing you know they're on your Twitter page pissed at midnight adding bizarre photos of Melania Trump's head and alienating all your customers.

SinisterBumFacedCat · 25/05/2017 00:13

So if it's a revenue thing how come at least half the ads are for mumsnet? Can't be getting much revenue from them. Also fed up of being targeted to use a site that I am already on!

CarbonMint · 24/05/2017 21:38

I'm using Adblocker Browser on my Android.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 24/05/2017 21:19

Any recommendations for android as blockers?

peaceloveandbiscuits · 24/05/2017 21:11

Thanks Isadora! Crystal works perfectly Smile

Bearfrills · 24/05/2017 20:49

Done via a third party such as PayPal should be reasonably secure, shouldn't it? Then no bank details are stored by MN and they have no additional information about you that they didn't already have (email address).

IsadoraJ · 24/05/2017 20:29

If you're on iPhone, download Crystal from the App Store.. stops any adverts from showing up on Safari and is endorsed by Apple.

WomblingThree · 24/05/2017 20:01

After Jeffrey, how many people would be willing to give their bank details anyway 😕

TheNoseyProject · 24/05/2017 19:31

the best way to deal with an ad on s thread is to scroll past it wtf? I'm familiar with how a thread works! The point is it's intrusive and annoying when you already have threads topped and tailed with ads!

See attached - ad in middle and scrolling down with me!

brexitstolemyfuture · 24/05/2017 19:21

Unless they are absolutely awfully managed then there is no way they are not making a big juicy profit.

They may of course be run that badly seeing as they use custom software that is/was a leaky seive..

EmpressOfTheSpartacusOceans · 24/05/2017 18:24

This one was sort of funny though.

HeadShouldersYonisAndToes · 24/05/2017 18:12

Is it really truly at the point of needing the same advert three times on one screen?

Greed has taken over.

EmpressOfTheSpartacusOceans · 24/05/2017 18:01

I love the running threads & the feminist threads but they're the main places I go really.
