Please could we have a trans issues sub board in feminism?

The feminism chat board is getting overrun by trans threads at the moment and becoming the de facto trans board as a result.
I understand people want to discuss this and also that some people want to be able to hide it, but there is a lot more to feminism than trans issues.
If we had a sub board then feminism chat could go back to being, you know, feminism chat.
What do you think?

I work with women badly damaged by men every day. I organise training for colleagues and students in how best to help women. Never, as in not even one of the women who has come through our doors has done so because of a transwoman or trans ideology.

It's just not a thing for the vast majority of women suffering in the UK today.

GurlwiththeCurl · 27/02/2017 22:05

Yes, another vote against a sub forum.

Rozdeek · 27/02/2017 21:19

I don't think you can call yourself a feminist if you buy into the transagenda that woman is a feeling.

It's the antithesis of feminism IMO.

ladyballs · 27/02/2017 21:18

Another vote here for not setting up a sub forum.

PovertyPain · 27/02/2017 21:09

privilege and violence on the part of XY-born men with no interest in transing themselves or anyone else causes more misery to more women than even the worst of the transactivists

So XY-born men cause misery but men that want to call themselves women are different. Of course I see it all now! Only XY-born men want into female spaces and try to tell women what a woman is, how they should behave and how they should be happy to be called 'cis' women whereas they are entitled to be take the title WOMAN. Hang on, 🤔 that doesn't sound right. 😒

HiDBandSIL · 27/02/2017 20:56

Nope. I also don't support this.

TinselTwins · 27/02/2017 20:48

Ha, I knew someone would say that! OK then, what I mean is that privilege and violence on the part of XY-born men with no interest in transing themselves or anyone else causes more misery to more women than even the worst of the transactivists.

And what little protections we do have against biological males is being taken away from us by the trans lobby… but whatever… don't wanna bore you… Hmm

IrenetheQuaint · 27/02/2017 20:45

"'I'd argue that male privilege and male violence have much more of a negative influence on most women's lives'

Er....that IS trans ideology."

TinselTwins · 27/02/2017 20:45

"diSable"

TinselTwins · 27/02/2017 20:44

My specific issue is pretty much the entirety of feminist chat is trans related at the mo - so people can hide that board and there is nowhere to do other feminist chat

That.doesn't.even.make.sense.
Trans threads don't diable the "start a new thread in this topic" feature on th feminism section of MN.
You are just as able to start a thread on the feminism boards here about whatever you like as you always have been!

msrisotto · 27/02/2017 20:43

Afraid I don't support this. In fact, i'd rather the existing FWR sub forums were just amalgamated into the one main one. They are simply not popular enough to justify more offshoots.

DeviTheGaelet · 27/02/2017 20:40

tinsel I am a regular contributor and have been for some years. In fact I had to dereg a previous name when it got picked up on twitter. If I as a gender critical feminist feel swamped on the board then it must be very bad for those who aren't GC.
Maybe I will just start using feminist theory....on my own...

Waiting for someone to suggest a Cis board in feminism instead because anything else would be transerasure.

The phrase transerasure always makes me think of Andy Bell bare chested in sequinned lederhosen and a feather boa.
"Stop!
Stand there where you are
Before you go to far,
Before you make a fool out of..."

TinselTwins · 27/02/2017 20:30

but there is a lot more to feminism than trans issues.. is exactly what the threads about transactivism are saying!

Have you read them? they are all about PROTECTING platorms for all these other issues

It is NOT a separate issue!

PovertyPain · 27/02/2017 20:26

It is a feminist issue and as for other topics not being posted on, nobody is stopping those that are pushing for a sub board, from posting on the other topics. I suspect that some of those pushing for a sub board are more interested in hiding the trans issues rather than having genuine concerns for feminist issues or females in general.

hoddtastic · 27/02/2017 20:09

odd you should say that, it's exactly replicating my experiences of feminist spaces in real life too, full of trans / talking about it/ thinking about how to center born men in it...

i think you shouldn't hide it, you'd be selling out the sisterhood as so many women are unaware of what is coming if this bandwagon keeps rolling forth

paxillin · 27/02/2017 20:04

I think it would be helpful to have a gender-critical or trans board in feminism. Most posters do not agree though. Most of the 300+ post threads in feminism chat are trans threads, so it appears this is indeed the most important feminism topic to many posters.

It is possible that not having a separate topic raises awareness of gender critical feminism. It is equally possible many people who would otherwise contribute simply hide FWR.

There's at least 15 sexes in mice. I imagine they studied sex chromosome abnormalities, such as deletions or trisomies. These are not "sexes" and they do of course exist in humans, too. People with Turner syndrome (XO) and triple X syndrome are females. People with Klinefelter syndrome (XXY or XXXY) or XYY syndrome are males. I am not convinced mice have a society complicated enough to develop gender identities.

WhenSheWasBadSheWasHorrid · 27/02/2017 20:01

My specific issue is pretty much the entirety of feminist chat is trans related at the mo

Totally agree op. It kind of gives the impression the only way you can be a feminist on mumsnet is to be antitrans. I think it's really off putting for lots of people.

Rozdeek · 27/02/2017 19:48

I'd argue that male privilege and male violence have much more of a negative influence on most women's lives

Er....that IS trans ideology.

IrenetheQuaint · 27/02/2017 19:44

I'd be in favour of a separate board - I used to be on FWR all the time but haven't bothered for ages because it is so trans-heavy, and the threads just go round in circles about the same issues again and again.

Trans ideology is v problematic, sure, but I'd argue that male privilege and male violence have much more of a negative influence on most women's lives, so I'm slightly baffled as why trans issues get quite so much attention here.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 27/02/2017 19:20

And the lab next to mine where I did my PhD worked on establishment of sex - There's at least 15 sexes in mice.

Really? That's fascinating! How do mice breed then?

MNHQ, please don't create a separate trans-issues board. It is a major issue affecting women at the moment, and as such there is no reason to segregate it.

If people don't want to see trans issues in feminism then they can simply hide the threads.

FlaviaAlbia · 27/02/2017 19:13

Well, it is pretty topical at the moment with the debate on gender ID due last week and then postponed.

Why not start threads on topics you want to discuss? I tend to join in any I find interesting, not just trans stuff.

DeviTheGaelet · 27/02/2017 17:59

flavia I totally totally agree it needs to be discussed and have no problem with threads on AIBU or chat. My specific issue is pretty much the entirety of feminist chat is trans related at the mo - so people can hide that board and there is nowhere to do other feminist chat.
It is a shame as there is so much more to feminism than trans issues and the board used to be my favourite. But I am in the minority obviously

OP posts:
ApplesinmyPocket · 27/02/2017 14:38

No, please don't, MNHQ. This is an important issue for women. It shouldn't be sidelined.

hazeyjane · 27/02/2017 14:38

I think it is a bad idea to have too many separate sub topics in any of the boards, as it dilutes stuff, ends up with tumbleweed threads and because often there are crossovers with different sub topics anyway.
