Why is the MN iPhone app so huge?

It is possibly just me and I don't know much about the tech involved. But it takes up 1.57 gb at the last count! It is the most massive app I have by quite some way, Netflix is the next biggest one and it's nearly three times smaller and has 2 offline video downloads. I keep having to delete things from my iPhone 5 because it's taking up so much space. It's not storing photos or other files offline, is it, so I fail to see why it is so large! Perhaps someone can enlighten me?

Thanks cozie will do that in the morning and see what happens.

cozietoesie · 22/01/2017 22:20

In the interests of experimentation, I just deleted and reinstalled the app on this device. It immediately went down to 25MB or so from just under 46MB. (It had started to creep up.)

Maybe you should try the same, Tequila? Smile

Tequilamockinbird · 22/01/2017 22:16

Mine's 234MB. How is the app a different size for everybody ?

cozietoesie · 22/01/2017 22:11

Ah. It looks as if that is the (temporary) way forward then Jiggly.

JigglyTuff · 22/01/2017 21:55

Deleted and reinstalled and it's now down to a manageable 23mb

cozietoesie · 22/01/2017 21:29

I just don't know. But mine - on the iPad and running the Test betas - are consistently closer to (lower a little than) your new size. (I know that I'm not using a phone but they're still the iOS app.)

I frequently shut down MN as it rinses my battery quickly but it didn't reduce the size of the app. From Tim's comment it sounded like he had an idea why it could happen (not deleting cached images properly) and there was a tech reason on MN's side.

Some of these sound huge. I'm on a 6s, and mine's 28M.

Does leaving apps running in the background use more space? If I'm low on battery I shut down all the apps I've been using, which happens a couple of times a week. Could that be why mine is so much smaller?

venusinscorpio · 22/01/2017 20:29

It's about 50 mb, quite a difference!

Mines is 871MB

cozietoesie · 22/01/2017 17:23

Ah. Well done.

What size is it now? (Roughly.)

venusinscorpio · 22/01/2017 16:58

Have deleted and reinstalled which has done the trick. Thank you!

Sorry - around the 33 that is.

cozietoesie · 17/01/2017 13:10

My iPad sizing seems to be around that, consistently. (On the beta test, though.)

witchmountain · 16/01/2017 00:40

Mine is 556 MB on my iPhone 5. Currently switching over to an iPhone 7 plus and on there (with the same threads watched etc) its 33 MB. I did wonder why it was so big on the other phone! Most of the other apps seemed to have stayed the same size between old and new phone though.

cozietoesie · 16/01/2017 00:05

Gawd. Mine is going down. It's less than 30 MB now. Shock

cozietoesie · 16/01/2017 00:03

Not in comparison to the OP's though.

PotOfYoghurt · 16/01/2017 00:01

Mine's huge!

Beats me. Mine seems too low now. (On an iPad but it's still iOS.)

venusinscorpio · 15/01/2017 23:58

Yes it's turned off and on regularly.

JigglyTuff · 15/01/2017 23:52

It's 603mb on my iPhone. Is it the number of threads I'm on or something?

Gooseysgirl · 15/01/2017 23:45

Mine is 262.6 MB

torthecatlady · 15/01/2017 23:44

265.8 mb on mine. iPhone 6S.

cozietoesie · 15/01/2017 23:43

PS - do you actually switch the phone off on a regular basis?

cozietoesie · 15/01/2017 23:41

To be fair, it's going up (now 32.6) but it's still way down there.
