Why have you deleted a thread?

tldr · 14/12/2016 18:43

AIBU thread got full, you deleted the follow up as a TAAT. Why?

OP posts:
New posts on this thread. Refresh page
conserveisposhforjam · 14/12/2016 22:35

Or we could just stick to making up shit that the PTA have n't done and moaning about 'entitled' mothers letting their kids run riot in Waitrose. ..

Spero · 14/12/2016 21:38

Thankyou, that seems a very fair solution.

But you do need to remember that the line between 'aggression' and 'robust' is often a fine and delicate one.

I am not advocating for the right to be unpleasant but I think context is important and debate essential.

IonaMumsnet · 14/12/2016 21:11

Sorry for delay. We've sorted the link on the old thread now so everyone reading there should be able to find the new one.

OlennasWimple · 14/12/2016 20:41

i didn't read the OP before the thread was deleted, but not sure why MNHQ couldn't just edit the title and reinstate the thread

BoreOfWhabylon · 14/12/2016 20:40

Thanks Iona

IonaMumsnet · 14/12/2016 20:38

Thanks BOW. We'll get onto that now and update the link.

Losgunna · 14/12/2016 20:37

Thanks BoreofWhabylon

BoreOfWhabylon · 14/12/2016 20:33

Here is the link to Spero's continuation thread, which she has just started

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/am_i_being_unreasonable/2804256-AIBU-to-want-to-carry-on-this-interesting-discussion-about-the-Child-Protection-System

meditrina · 14/12/2016 20:32

"we all know that certain groups have 'targeted' Spero"

Good point.

MistressMerryWeather · 14/12/2016 20:32

That's a good point, actually Bore.

No harm in checking it out.

IonaMumsnet · 14/12/2016 20:32

Hi again folks. We aren't going to reinstate that thread at this stage we're afraid. Apart from all the other reasons, it was becoming pretty aggressive in places and generating lots of reports, so might well have been heading for deletion in any case, and we do think the discussion can be continued in a less fraught manner.

As mentioned, we're absolutely happy for a new #2 thread to be started again though. And yes, in answer to your question conserveisposhforjam, we could then go in and edit the old thread to take posters to the new one.

We'll keep an eye on this thread this evening so we can pop in and do that asap if anyone would like to start a new thread.

Losgunna · 14/12/2016 20:31

That is an excellent point conserveisposhforjam

Get it together MN. Intelligent heated debate is a rare gem on the internet. Don't push it out from one of it's best platforms.

meditrina · 14/12/2016 20:31

Couldn't agree more conserveisposhforjam

And of course, given how her MN identity was outed, I'm amazed at her continuing assistance to posters in need.

Now we just need an annual thread about busting school admissions myths started by prh47, admissions or tiggy to be deleted as being a TAAT based on many threads, and we'll know for sure that changes have bedded in.

BoreOfWhabylon · 14/12/2016 20:29

yy conserve
Might be interesting for MNHQ to check just who it was that reported the thread too - we all know that certain groups have 'targeted' Spero.

Anyway, she has said on her thread that she may start a continuation thread, instead of flouncing Xmas Grin

conserveisposhforjam · 14/12/2016 20:25

And she can't just start another because she linked to that one at the end of thread one. Unless you can edit the link?

Poor fucking show MN. I agree re the sparkly tickers...

Losgunna · 14/12/2016 20:25

I can't put it any better the pp but I really think you reinstate the thread hq.

It wasn't goady, simply a continuation of the conversation on the previous thread.

You are driving away your intelligent members ha.

Not the best decision you've ever made.

conserveisposhforjam · 14/12/2016 20:22

If anyone was goading anyone it was the other way round. Doesn't being a long term poster who helps people ALL THE FUCKING TIME and never gets arse despite massive provocation count for anything?

meditrina · 14/12/2016 20:21

Thread in AIBU that might be worth reading in conjunction with this one:

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/am_i_being_unreasonable/2804170-AIBU-to-finally-leave-mumsnet?msgid=65535739#65535739

PurpleDaisies · 14/12/2016 20:13

I read the op and it was obvious the thread was a continuation. A strange decision to delete it. Confused

meercat23 · 14/12/2016 20:10

we would ask that it's started as a simple continuation of the original, rather than anything else.

But if I have understood, it WAS started as a continuation and not as anything else.

It really seems as if whoever decided to delete this thread has made a mistake. Can it please be reinstated?

tldr · 14/12/2016 19:52

Please reinstate the old thread.

OP posts:
meditrina · 14/12/2016 19:48

Please reinstate the thread.

It did say it was started when the previous thread was full, and was continuing one convo/theme from it that was still active when the limit was reached.

And if anyone was goady! it wasn't spero

CremeBrulee · 14/12/2016 19:41

I feel deleting this thread was a big mistake MNHQ. You need work at keeping more of the intelligent, reasoned posters like Spero who can provoke interesting debate.

Otherwise you might as well bring on the sparkly glitter tickers.

FlagDay · 14/12/2016 19:41

MNHQ please reinstate the continuation thread. Spero really knows her stuff and is one of the best posters on mumsnet for those of us interested in the subject.

IonaMumsnet · 14/12/2016 19:38

Hi again folks. Yes, we agree it wasn't a TAAT in the 'traditional' sense. Perhaps we should have made that clear in the deletion message. If the original post had simply said that it was a continuation of the previous thread, we'd have had no concerns. But it felt a little bit combative to summon a poster from the previous thread in an OP and ask for a response. It seemed as though the new thread was all about that particular disagreement on the previous one and not simply a continuation of the discussion, if you see what we mean? And we had a few reports from other posters who felt it was inflammatory.

We're very happy for there to be a second thread now that first one is full, so do feel free to start another, but we would ask that it's started as a simple continuation of the original, rather than anything else.
