Rules around banning?

TheUnworthy · 13/11/2016 21:54

Feeling a little nervous after the recent thread that went 'poof' and reports of people being banned and not knowing why/not having any deleted posts beforehand.

Is there a three strike rule? No strikes?

Just for some context: Teacherbob went into FWR, made sexist jokes, patronised women, told women they were wasting time debating sexist behaviour when children were dying etc etc.

I guess MNHQ might be a bit more trigger happy on the ban button when that behaviour happens in FWR because lots of trolls go there to do exactly that kind of thing. Especially as it was half term.

MaQueen · 18/11/2016 17:06

I think MNHQ contacting you via a PM is an excellent idea. I genuinely can't remember which email address I registered under, it was that long ago...

cozietoesie · 17/11/2016 21:49

Or not, as the case may be. Wink (See the third or fourth thread down from this one. Smile)

YonicProbe · 17/11/2016 21:45

I mean MNHQ sending both

YonicProbe · 17/11/2016 21:44

Hence doing both is the best idea!

YonicProbe · 17/11/2016 21:43

Cozie, Errol is checking her email! But lots of us use email addresses for MN we don't use elsewhere after security issues here.

pklme · 17/11/2016 21:24

Can I find out where a thread has gone and why? There was a breastfeeding in an interview post... And there have been others. On my app, it just says message deleted, nothing else.

I'm worrying a bit about saying and doing the wrong thing.

cozietoesie · 17/11/2016 21:19

But I don't know how many of the people using the app send or receive PMs, Errol. You're not going to get the full functionality of the main site on an app - at the moment, anyway - and that's one of the casualties. If you're being notified that a PM has been sent by email, it's not too burdensome to make the occasional trip to a browser to read it, surely - even if you use mostly the app?

StrictlyPan · 17/11/2016 21:05

And we are sleepily content with that style Yonic. Don't encourage traffic, it's pacey enough.

ErrolTheDragon · 17/11/2016 20:57

That's what I thought.. and surely loads of people use the app some or all of the time.

cozietoesie · 17/11/2016 20:48

The app doesn't 'do' PMs, Errol. There's nothing for you to turn off or on.

ErrolTheDragon · 17/11/2016 20:38

'What envelope? the inbox envelope.'

my MN app is utterly devoid of envelopes. Maybe I've turned something off or not turned something on. Confused

YonicProbe · 17/11/2016 20:01

" I probably would have got bored and wandered off"

Ah. You want Dadsnet for that kind of posting pattern.

StrictlyPan · 17/11/2016 18:59

Yes TB they just don't know they are onto a Good Thing even when we tell them. Repeatedly. Madness I tell you...

JustAnotherSadOldNumber · 17/11/2016 18:58

What envelope? the inbox envelope.

TeacherBob · 17/11/2016 18:53

Also if the didn't personally attack me and my job, I probably would have got bored and wandered off

ErrolTheDragon · 17/11/2016 18:50

'Well if people had just listened to the first point, then I wouldn't have had to keep rewording it to try and get them to make sense'

what's that saying about not being able to make a silk purse out of a sow's ear? Grin

TeacherBob · 17/11/2016 18:48

Well if people had just listened to the first point, then I wouldn't have had to keep rewording it to try and get them to make sense :p

ErrolTheDragon · 17/11/2016 18:17

What envelope?

JustAnotherSadOldNumber · 17/11/2016 12:51

I think the picture of the closed envelope changes to a picture of a closed envelope on the app.

ErrolTheDragon · 17/11/2016 09:07

I'm on the app at the moment and theres nothing like that, are you talking about the browser UI? Will look on PC later.

Pan,yeah, who could have predicted that? he might have got away with it relatively unscathed (well, FWR always scathes mansplainers a bit) if he'd made his 'point' once, but it was soooo blumming repetitive. Maybe it was a pedagogic method for when infants don't understand something the first (or second or....ad nauseum) time, he felt he had to keep on till we'd mastered his lesson.Grin

BeyondReasonablyDoubts · 17/11/2016 08:24

Yep it's a bell.

Surely they could set it up to do both?

StrictlyPan · 17/11/2016 08:09

Isn't it a sort of little bell that appears beside the little person in the inbox icon, at an angle as if it's being rung to attract your attention? I've seen that on other sites too.

So TeacherBob went into the FWR and told them they were doing it all wrong, and it didn't go down too well? Smile

YonicProbe · 17/11/2016 07:33

They could do both!

Errol a little dot should appear on the little person, top right. I'll pm you now
