Rules around banning?

TheUnworthy · 13/11/2016 21:54

Feeling a little nervous after the recent thread that went 'poof' and reports of people being banned and not knowing why/not having any deleted posts beforehand.

Is there a three strike rule? No strikes?

OP posts:
YoScienceBitch · 13/11/2016 22:32

msgame
That is EXACTLY what happened to my friend! I wonder if it's the same poster.

PurpleDaisies · 13/11/2016 22:32

Thanks toooldtobearsed-I missed that.

TupsNSups · 13/11/2016 22:31

There was quite a few pbp on the last thread all with similar stories of emails not being replied to.

Toooldtobearsed · 13/11/2016 22:30

Daisies - on previous thread which went poof, MNHQ confirmed Wannabe was no longer here and said they had been in contact with her.

AVirginLitTheCandle · 13/11/2016 22:30

Who was the OP of the last thread? Apparently she had been a regular non goady poster before she was banned (according to a different poster on that thread anyway) which makes the whole banning without warning and MNHQ ignoring her emails even more strange.

Soubriquet · 13/11/2016 22:30

Like I said on the deleted thread a ninja has been banned.

She had no warnings.

She emailed to find out what happened and finally got a response telling her she had persistently broken talk guidelines and had been reported numerous times, mnhq feel this site is no longer suitable for her and her account has been deleted.

She has emailed again asking where she has broken the guidelines. No response yet.

As someone has mentioned knitting - which was brought up by me on the previous thread - I should clarify what I was banned for. It wasn't about knitting (though that was one of the things I was posting about around that time). Some of you may remember it actually. It was on the night of the Paris attacks last year and I posted a thread saying we should all visit Paris ASAP in a gesture of solidarity.
However I phrased it badly (something like 'Paris is nice to visit at this time of year') and didn't explain 'for solidarity' and so apparently it got reported to death within minutes of me posting it and I was banned before I even refreshed the page to check if I had any responses. Because it understandably looked like Trolly McTrollface.

I emailed HQ to explain my intentions had been honourable but sadly mid-phrased and they accepted that and reinstated me.
But no, I got no warning or notification and they didn't seem to check my posting history to consider whether I seemed the troublesome type.

As I said at the time (and on tonight's thread) I understood why they deleted the thread but surely that alone isn't worth an outright banning with no warning?

They could have checked my posting history and emailed to say 'did you mean to be so troll-y?!' Or given me a warning, which appears to be something they do from time to time.
It just felt a bit heavy handed, that's all. Not arguing re the actual thread though, and I'm sorry again if anyone here was offended and reported it. (I did go to Paris to spend money and support the local economy afterwards btw and I hope other people did too Smile ).

BeyondAnyFuckingJoke · 13/11/2016 22:29

Ha! I have not looked back btw, it suddenly popped into my head Grin

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 13/11/2016 22:28

WannaBe was posting here today, I thought? Has she now been banned? I really can't understand why, if so. The site is full of goady posters and is troll central a lot of the time... Confused

AVirginLitTheCandle · 13/11/2016 22:28

Completely

Well that's just rude.

AVirginLitTheCandle · 13/11/2016 22:27

yes I did

Shock

Blasphemy!

MsGameandWatch · 13/11/2016 22:26

Completely.

AVirginLitTheCandle · 13/11/2016 22:26

Are you being serious MsGameandWatch?

QueenMortificado · 13/11/2016 22:22

Wannabe got banned?! Why???

AnyFucker · 13/11/2016 22:22

arsed yes I did, believe it or not Smile

BeyondReasonablyDoubts · 13/11/2016 22:20

Marking place (I have seen at least three posting names who are MIA)

Iirc from anyfuckers previous escapade though, the answer was that it is down to independent MNHQers interpretation, there is no "rule". Generally you will be more likely to be welcomed back if you are a long term (generally calm!) poster who lost their temper, whereas a hairy handed man sharing dick picks will be less welcome. And generally there will usually be at least one warning for regular posters. But nothing is definite.

Lots of generally's in there...

PurpleDaisies · 13/11/2016 22:16

How do you know AnyFucker? It sounds exactly the same as what happened to me-did I get banned and reinstated without noticing?Blush

I hope wannabe gets things sorted-I like her posts.

MsGameandWatch · 13/11/2016 22:15

It's definitely not three strikes and you're out. Someone I know got one warning, a fairly nice one, about a year ago and now has been banned completely. Just as others have said, no warning, then no answer to her email for a week or two then a very abrupt one telling her that MN was not the site for her.

Toooldtobearsed · 13/11/2016 22:15

Chin up Wannabe 😊

There are a few posters on here I enjoy reading, don't always agree with them, but love their posting style - quick witted, thoughtful , but most of all, straight. By that i mean simple, plain speaking. Not goady fuckers, who seem to have free rein at the moment.

Hope to see you back soon.

AF, you changed your posting style??? 😁

SeenoevilSpeaknoevilHearnoevil · 13/11/2016 22:14

I was just about to read that I'd missed and poof... gone.
I think at least an automatic email isn't asking a lot?
Trump gets elected and then we lose our "Free speech"?

It's a conspiracy!

crashdoll · 13/11/2016 22:13

I always assumed it was three strikes and you're out. It worked quite well on another forum, except for the fact that your profile told everyone how many strikes you had. Hmm Also, when you were out, it was permanent.

LittleStripyBee · 13/11/2016 22:13

I'm not sure what is going on, people are being banned and told they have breached talk guidelines, but not where or how apparently. If this is the case then it's a little 'it's my ball and I'm going home', if not then the ones who are left could do with some clarity. Mn was a source of sanity for me when things went tits up, I'm not sure it would help had it been now.

AnyFucker · 13/11/2016 22:06

It's not a tech problem, PD

PurpleDaisies · 13/11/2016 22:05

I wonder if there have been glitches on the site-this happened to me a few days ago. I thought I'd been banned (I couldn't for the life of me see why) but it was a technical problem.

AnyFucker · 13/11/2016 22:03

wannabe I have tried to reply to your pm but I am unable to. Anyway, I have pasted it here with the names redacted. This thread might go, so I don't think I am breaking any rules and I know you can read even if you cannot post right now

Hi

I am sorry you have been crook, I hope you get well soon Flowers

I hope you don't think I am minimising how horrible it is to be shut out of a place that you feel used to and part of the furniture there

This happened to me twice and I found it immensely frustrating to not have the power to reply. I spent many hours poring over threads and fuming....

I felt like MN left me stewing for a few days, for sure. I was also hugely angry that it was inconsequential goady fuckers that got me suspended but I did have to concede that if I had not risen to the goading I would not be in that position.

Lovey, it's hugely unfair and I know how it feels.

But if you want to come back, just grit your teeth and suck it up. They will let you back if you wait a few days then promise to behave. They have let me back twice under similar circs. They don't really want to ban you permanently, I promise. Just say you will be a good girl and it will go back to normal.

I was a bit paranoid for a while, but I have had a few post deletions since and no further consequences.

In fact, I have to admit I have changed my posting style somewhat and it is for the better. I don't get as embroiled in pointless shit as I used to and I think it has done me good. Life teally is too short for all the crap. You will think this in a few weeks too although it won't feel like that just now.

Anyway, I am rambling about myself. You are a popular poster, for sure. I think we have had some disagreements in the past but I like you and respect you.

I hope you can come back in a few days feeling better than ever. Take care, love. AF x
