Rules around banning?

TheUnworthy · 13/11/2016 21:54

Feeling a little nervous after the recent thread that went 'poof' and reports of people being banned and not knowing why/not having any deleted posts beforehand.

Is there a three strike rule? No strikes?

OP posts:

We've just had one of those stores open up near us btw. I haven't explored it yet. I shall remain fully clothed while doing so.

Devilishpyjamas · 14/11/2016 08:20

Nah owl - wannabe called someone out for dropping their drawers is a b&m store. BAN HER. And you and me and all of us!

MsGameandWatch · 14/11/2016 08:14

I think it's clear if someone posts prolifically and for a considerable period of time then they're probably finding the site quite an essential source of support and interaction. I think it's pretty unpleasant to just suddenly withdraw that with no word.

Owllady · 14/11/2016 08:07

I agree jimjams 're the anti disabled language and attitude generally
Wannabe dropped her drawers in a b&m stores

I have a suggestion MNHQ - sometimes your site can be a bit glitchy and an inability to login doesn't necessarily signify a ban.

Could you get tech (sorry tech!) to add something to the login page, so that when a banned user fails to login it pops up with something like "This account has been banned (or suspended). Please feel free to contact MNHQ to discuss this: [email protected]"

This could be fully automated so no more work for the team, and would mean that if a user had been banned (or suspended) they would know definitively, and would know who to contact to discuss how long/ what for etc?

BeyondReasonablyDoubts · 14/11/2016 07:46

There are a lot of posters who post here for mh support. I can only imagine what the customary "make them stew" week would be like for them.

And of course here come the posts of "well it's not mnhq's job to be mh support, it's not their fault, blah blah blah"..... Hmm

hobnobsaremyfavourite · 14/11/2016 07:26

I was banned and received no warning email
In fact i was told Inhad received several warning emails over several months
I had received none
Not one
Nadda
I made one comment on a thread that I had no idea had turned into a bunfight that was completely misintepreted on a bank holiday weekend and that was it
It took over a week to sort and Inc personally cant say HQ were helpful
Until one HQ'er who sadly now has left listened, looked into it and had the decency to apologise and sort.
I am wary of even posting this as I wonder if my "card will be marked" but these days I lurk and post now and again mainly on c25k
Wannabe is the least gf poster I can think of and when I see the trolls and gf's allowed to post with seeming impunity then it does make me wonder

Devilishpyjamas · 14/11/2016 06:55

Spoken to wannabe.

Well you made the wrong decision there didn't you MNHQ? Even by your own criteria.

I barely post on MN these days as the disabilism has become so bad & to be frank I have enough battles in my daily life with agencies who are somewhat disingenuous in their approach to disability that I CBA to tackle it here (esp without MNHQ support - they seem to support it in the name of free speech). If you start banning posters like wannabe then 'barely' will become never as MN will become the nasty version of Netmums.

:waits to be banned for criticising HQ:

Wannabe has never been on my radar as a trouble maker either [odd]

PigletWasPoohsFriend · 14/11/2016 00:34

Oh no what's happened to wannabe Shock

AnyFucker · 14/11/2016 00:13

Blimey. There do seem to be more suspensions flying around Confused

MyWineTime · 14/11/2016 00:12

This is all very confusing

AVirginLitTheCandle · 14/11/2016 00:05

Oh dear. What have MNHQ done to WannaBe?

Please don't say it had anything to do with the poppy thread.

MsGameandWatch · 13/11/2016 23:47

There does seem to be an awful lot of bans being dished out ATM. Some rather excitable and enthusiastic newbies in MNHQ perhaps?

Boogers · 13/11/2016 23:43

I was banned two weeks ago for pulling someone up on what I thought was a deliberately goady post which was then followed up with a very nasty PM from the OP. MNHQ deleted my post, which admittedly could have been more constructive, but there was no warning, no email, just couldn't log in for several days, while the offensive goady thread remained. I'm still very annoyed about that one to the point that I can't be bothered to post like I did.

LouisvilleLlama · 13/11/2016 23:34

But wouldn't that be taken into account user26436432 has been registered 5 days and got 47 reports in 3 out of 20 comments LighthouseLove has been registered 10 years had 500 reports over 1284 comments but only 5 have been in them last 50 for the last week

Devilishpyjamas · 13/11/2016 23:31

Owl tell me what's going on. (Not here or we'll both get banned)

Wannabe has been here years, hasn't been goady & even ticks the bloody MNHQ 'recent hard time' box. Hmm

bumbleymummy · 13/11/2016 23:29
Grin
YonicProbe · 13/11/2016 23:25

"People who have been around for years are more likely to have had a few 'off' times during those years. Seems a bit unfair to hold them against them indefinitely if they are months/years apart compared to those who frequently have posts deleted for breaking Guidelines."

I agree with Bumbley.

Well, that's a first!

Thanks for posting Iona.

Owllady · 13/11/2016 23:20

They normally just disable me without telling me :o oh well!

TrippyMcTrapFace · 13/11/2016 23:20

Oh dear. WTF is going on around here? Confused

Somebody should start selling those tinfoil hats. I'll have two please.

MsGameandWatch · 13/11/2016 23:18

I imagine there'll be an email like mine on its way to you shortly owl Wink

Owllady · 13/11/2016 23:16

I've spoke to wannabe, you are a disgrace mnhq
Hope your journo crowd brings in the dosh

AVirginLitTheCandle · 13/11/2016 23:08

I kind of think that the email belongs to the person it's been sent to

Same here.

Anyway I'm off to have a bath. I will be using a nice Lush Christmas bath bomb Smile
