Please MNHQ...PLEASE can we have an edit button?

Even just a five minute timed one. Just for spelling mistakes and so on....

I often don't realise I have misspelled something until I read it in context with the thread. The preview does not help with this either.
I itch to correct myself and I can't be alone in that surely?

Go on go on go on. Ye will ye will ye will.

Please???

Unless you can persuade Olivia to edit it out.

Personally, I'd rather live with it than attempt that! Grin

pictish · 04/11/2016 18:30

hehe...I am reasonably chillaxed but my own SPAG errors make me gip...especially if I'm butting horns having a discussion with someone who is so passe, they're still using SPAG as a means of attack. So 1990s I just can't even...

Is infuriating.

Edit history would take care of any discrepancies in a story. It would be the new way...we'd have a 'you edited' emoticon and an edit history to view option. No one would get away with it.

So are we doing this or what? All those in favour, ska dance.

MardyBra · 04/11/2016 17:35

Fuck did I really say chillax?

Oh dear, I'm stuck with it.

MardyBra · 04/11/2016 17:34

"I post "I like Justin Fletcher"

You post "I really love him and all his work!"

I edit my post to "Wasn't Hitler really horrible."

You look like a Nazi sympathiser. Result."

This exactly. Threads move so quickly sometimes, even a few minute edit button could cause mayhem. We all know your SPAG is OK pictish. Chillax.

PurpleDaisies · 04/11/2016 17:33

Today I have posted that I've made a vag of chilli and advised someone to chat up midwife. While the ability to edit would be great in some ways it could make threads very hard to follow if lots of people can go back and change what they've written.

Please NO.

If you are so bovvered bye ur spellin use the preview button.

cozietoesie · 04/11/2016 14:52

I wouldn't want one. It could lead to all sorts of shenanigans on fast-moving threads.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 04/11/2016 11:00

No, there is already a preview option.

An edit button will be all kinds of trouble.

ShowOfHands · 26/10/2016 10:54

I don't want one. It'll encourage snarky shits to demand people change their words/spelling/grammar, the disingenuous goady fuckers will abuse it, the site would be ballsed up for weeks while it's implemented.

I hate making spelling mistakes too but it doesn't bother me at all in other posters so I recognise that it's healthy to accept I'm human and make mistakes. Nobody judges typos and an over zealous auto correct.

catsofa · 25/10/2016 11:43

The CTC forum has an edit button

Edit history would take care of that.

catsofa · 24/10/2016 19:11

Please show the thread title in preview when creating a new thread! So many messed up titles and such an easy fix for loads of them.

pictish · 24/10/2016 18:38

And yet again...a misplaced apostrophe. I've written it's when I mean its.
So annoying not to be able to fix it.

I don't care if anyone else cares. I care!

OP posts:
JenLindleyShitMom · 24/10/2016 16:27

No* big deal. See! Grin

JenLindleyShitMom · 24/10/2016 16:27

You can just post underneath it with someone the correct spelling. But really, no-one actually cares about spelling. We all get fat fingers at times, we all misspell things. It's. I big deal.

KatherineMumsnet · 24/10/2016 16:23

Thanks for your feedback, everyone.

This has come up a few times before, and we can certainly flag it again but make no promises!

Doje · 24/10/2016 15:40

I think an edit option should be available for the first 10 seconds after posting. That's when I see all my errors!

pictish · 24/10/2016 15:35

I have a post atm whereby I spelled 'cajole' as 'cojole' - at the time and immediately afterwards it looked right. Now I can see it is obviously wrong and it's making me nnnggghh. Kwim?

OP posts:
YouHadMeAtCake · 24/10/2016 15:30

Yes please to an edit button

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 24/10/2016 15:30

Yes please!

although as MNHQ struggle to change the colours a whole new level of functionality might be a bit beyond them
