To Ask That MNHQ Treat ALL Posts/Posters/Campaigns Seeking To Derail & Hunt Out Any Form Of Bigotry, As They Do Troll Hunters

The current trend has been a campaign to point out & completely derail threads with shouts of disabilsm, too often IMHO, unfounded.

Though I do feel a lot of empathy for the posters involved & know too well that disablism can exist. Plus I don't doubt they have difficult lives dealing with all that comes with DCs with SN, however I do feel what is happening currently on MN is way over the top, hypersensitive & does no one any favours, least of all the disabled & is IMHO comparable to "troll hunting" & feel it would improve many posters enjoyment of MN if MNHQ could treat this & any similarly bigot hunting posts/campaigns in the same way as they do Troll Hunters.

I should add, I am a disabled DM, of a disabled DC & as such I do not appreciate the current campaign as speaking for us all - not in my name thank you very much, its way OTT & quite frankly damaging & it has become very boring.

I have no intention if getting into any debates, I have seen enough posts to form the opinion that the inevitable stress & real life disabilist problems that can of course go hand in hand with raising DCs with SN can result in a warped perspective of others intentions. I also find it sad, that posters who should have far more empathy for people starting threads in difficult & stressful situations, might not actually word themselves very well & really don't need posters jumping down their throats for perceived bigotry that the rest of us do not see. Ive just left a thread with a prime example of that, where reference to a school looking out for "bad kids" was instantly taken to mean SN, rather than just troubled kids in all quises, very often without any SN at all, as has been our own experience with a similarly biased primary school. That is not disabilism, it is is simply a bad choice of words referring to disruptive & aggressive behaviour for a host of reasons.

I wont reply to any attacks on this post. I just think in the interest of keeping MN the welcoming, place where parents etc can ask for help & opinions related to a specific issue, that it is meant to be. That it might be helpful that all such campaigns & posts be treat in the same way as troll hunting & any grievances as regards any posting/threads be reported, rather than attacked in the frenzied & unhelpful way that seems to be happening too often of late.

Perhaps those of us who feel this way can let MNHQ know here...

If anyone posted about the 'SN brigade' I would be hugely pissed off and would report it. That would clearly be goady and not helpful to anyone.

I think Worra said what I'm thinking much better than I could.

Has it occurred to any of you that perhaps we're actually fed up by the MNHQ stance of leaving Disablist threads up in the name of 'education?'

This isn't annoyance at posters, this is annoyance, and long standing frustration at Disablism being treated differently by MNHQ than Racism.

If someone posted a thread about Gypsies, allowing people to express their long standing, ingrained prejudice, you can guarantee it would be deleted quicker that you can hit the report button.

Yet a thread about Autism.. like that one the other week when the man with SN kicked the posters dog, that stayed up, despite it being full of people speculating how that man shouldn't be out in society, what if it had been a child he kicked...etc, that stayed up for DAYS.

Do you not see the disparity?

That is ALL we want, to be treated fairly, for MNHQ to stop this bullshit of 'its educational' being an excuse to leave something that is blatantly disablist and discriminatory to remain on the boards.

Disabled people have a right to the same protection from being discussed like we're worthless as any of the other 'isms' covered by the EA.

Scuse the shorthand. Typed 2 long responses and app keeps glitching out.

BishopBrennansArse · 20/10/2016 20:25

Any form of discussion about bigotry to be treated as troll hunting. The very foundation of this thread. So deleting the minority.

Those who rock up on threads discussing disablism to goad, name call and derail to get them deleted. And no this week's wasn't the first one.

The accusation of 'shouting' 'screaming' and 'frothing' when disablism is even mentioned on a thread.

Professionally Offended.
SN Brigade.

Piglet can think what she likes, I'm not the one advocating thought control. Being as her view is that of the majority and they are hammering it home whilst ensuring the minority aren't able to discuss it I don't think being told that others think differently is a biggie, somehow.

No I'm not. I'm telling the majority that some in the minority including myself are offended by something (and I'm being agreed with, it's not just me).

I'm not telling anyone else how they should think. I'm telling them how I feel.

SouthWestmom · 20/10/2016 20:05

Oh it's all a massive storm in a tea cup. There are thousands of MN users and lurkers and one small group posting regularly to claim it's not an SEN friendly place and quoting the Equality Act and slating MNHQ staff.

If it was a massive problem that group would be bigger. Overall I think MN attracts such a range of people you get RL views here , and they aren't always as aware as they could be. But I meet people in RL who don't have any insight into disability and they are just nice, normal people. That's all I see here bar the goady stuff but that happens with any 'juicy' subject - asylum, benefits etc.

Do I now have to declare my credentials to have an opinion?

PigletWasPoohsFriend · 20/10/2016 19:56

Basically the minority doesn't have the right to tell others in the minority how to think.

I'm tired from chemo so probably not making much sense.

PigletWasPoohsFriend · 20/10/2016 19:54

Yet you think that members of any majority have the right to tell you how to think? That someone with zero links to disability has the right to tell YOU what to think?

But you are telling me a member of that minority how I should think about something and I am belittled for not doing so, name called and PA attacks.

Can you not see that is also wrong!

That is what I am trying to say.

BishopBrennansArse · 20/10/2016 19:50

PigletWasPoohsFriend · 20/10/2016 19:48

Yes really.

When I said I didn't agree with something.

I was sniped at, name called for not agreeing.

How is that actually helpful to anyone?

I am disabled. I have a severely disabled DC whom I fight for every day.

It doesn't mean I have to agree with everything everyone says. Nor should I be silenced for thinking differently over something.

Javabeansaintgeorge · 20/10/2016 19:46

Pag

Flowers

would it be worth highlighting Pags post to HQ, the realisation they are actually loosing loyal members (who bring in money) might kick them in to some kind of action?

BishopBrennansArse · 20/10/2016 19:39

Really????

Pagwatch · 20/10/2016 19:38

Does it Piglet?

Does the fact that people feel offended and say so really create the entire problem
Did a bunch of predominantly long standing mumsnetters - not trolls or bored teenagers - suddenly decide that they had nothing to do with their day except be offended. Did they start threads and get upset and de register because it was raining and there was nothing on tv?

Yes, absoloutely I'm sure there have been over reactions, and I have no doubt that there are hurt feelings and thin skins and far, far too much sniping and biting.

But I really do think that if posters contributing to this thread can't see that underlying it all is a group of mothers fighting against funding cuts and crass dismissal and hopelessness and an overwhelming love for their child combined with the knowledge that that child's future is precarious to say the least, then they should go away and have a think about whether they are fighting the right fight.
A group being overwhelmingly marginalised in society is on here and most of them are desperately looking for signs of support. From where I'm sitting there are not many.

PigletWasPoohsFriend · 20/10/2016 19:29

No one has the right to tell any minority what they can or can't be offended by.

There in lies the problem imo.

WitchOfEorzea · 20/10/2016 19:26

And a few disabled people, quite a few in fact over the last few days have said they don't find certain words and phrases offensive and explained why.

Black friends of mine have said they don't have a problem with the word nigger.

Does that mean that I shouldn't have a problem with that word? Because you can be damn sure if someone uses it towards me I will find it racist!

No protected group has a hive mind on what is/isn't disabled.

No one has the right to tell any minority what they can or can't be offended by.
