Please can we have a Trans topic?

The trans debate seems to be devouring the boards at the moment. It's spread across feminism, chat and AIBU and it's often not clear from a thread title that it's going to be another trans thread.

Considering that trans threads are accumulating in numbers and attract hundreds of posts and posters I think it's time trans was given its own topic.

OP posts:

we do need a topic for it.

i agree it needs talking about, but quite frankly i'm sick of hiding threads so i don't have to keep stumbling over the astonishing level of transphobia and offensive witterings of people who think they're more intelligent than they really are.

the few that have been enlightening and interesting and getting into proper gritty discussion are constantly littered with bitch ploppers, grandstanders, me-railers and cunts, and its getting boring.

Sparklingbrook · 22/09/2016 06:59

I agree OP. But it won't happen. Just keep on clicking 'Hide thread'.

IzzyIsBusy · 22/09/2016 06:49

Considering that trans threads are accumulating in numbers and attract hundreds of posts and posters I think it's time trans was given its own topic.

The reason it is spread accross various topics is because it affects different areas of life.
Trans issues are not a topic on their own, they can be a teenager issue, a femminist issue and a AIBU so they fit. There is no need for its own topic.

Just dont read them OP. It wont harm you to spend 10 seconds reading a post. Should we have a mil topic as they crop up everywhere?

MangoMoon · 22/09/2016 06:45

I don't like it, move it somewhere I don't want to see it, hide things that I find distasteful or confronting to give me a SAFE SPACE.

No, no, no!

Wrt the recent trans-entitlement that seems to be sweeping the western world at the moment, I think it's hugely important that we keep it on the main boards.

Most people, me included, have genuine sympathy and feeling for those transpeople that just want to get on with their lives free of judgement & persecution - I'm on their side 100%.

Unfortunately, a vocal minority of Me! Me! Me! men have done what a vocal minority of men have done since the dawn of time - decided they Are Much More Important and Should Be Bowed Down To.

These men are not only trampling all over women (as per), but are also trampling all over genuine transpeople in the process.
Any hard fought acceptance that was starting to come about for genuine transpeople is being eroded & rejected because of these vocal & self-centred few.

For women, AND for genuine transpeople we need to keep the pathetic, attention seeking, minimising actions of these hideous men in the mainstream - so people can realise just how damaging these people have become.

merrymouse · 22/09/2016 06:42

There are atleast 3 issues being discussed at the moment because of current stories in the news and programmes broadcast.

The threads have nothing to do with sex offenders and everything to do with women's rights and the adoption of questionable practices on the basis of scarce scientific and medical evidence.

NauticalDisaster · 22/09/2016 06:38

I disagree with a separate topic. There are plenty of topics I'm not interested in so i just don't click the link.

VashtaNerada · 22/09/2016 06:25

I agree but MNHQ have said no so many times, it's not going to happen. It's frustrating to see the same tired arguments again and again and threads that mention sex offenders or misogynists who also happen to be trans but rarely mention trans people who are decent human beings, but it really isn't going to change any time soon.
When I'm feeling brave I post and politely disagree with anything I see as particularly offensive, but often just hide them and get on with my life (as I will this thread shortly!)

merrymouse · 22/09/2016 06:18

No, that would be a very bad idea.

I think the trans threads the OP is referring to are very much about women's rights. The reason the issue is discussed so much is that
changes are being made that negatively affect women with no clear, logical explanation. If a thread has clearly been posted in the wrong place (gardening?) it is possible to move it to another more relevant board already.

MephistoMarley · 22/09/2016 05:50

Obviously not. New women are reading and learning about the concerns with every thread posted; hiding them away in a separate section would impede this.
It's usually completely clear from the title what the thread is about and if not - there is a hide thread function. Use it.

disneyprincesswannabe · 22/09/2016 05:40

There is isn't there? In parenting there's a LGBT board. Two in fact but I think they are rather quiet so feel free to post any where you like.

IBelieveTheEarthIsFlat · 22/09/2016 05:36

Bloody hell, no way!. Women should not be ghettoised. This subject is too important and too widespread to be sidelined.

Fuck sake, if you don't care then don't click.

icyfront · 21/09/2016 22:02

I vote no.

The issue is one that can traverse many areas of the board - primary education, secondary education, pregnancy, chat, health, domestic abuse, AIBU - not just women's rights. It's something we all need to think about, discuss, because none of us yet know what the consequences could be for any of us.

I've read many threads here, and I don't see any transphobia. Indeed, I see support for those who want to transition in order to finally make sense of themselves.

Most trans people just want to live their real lives, peacefully and quietly.

What's happened is that transactivism is gathering strength and insisting on access to all those spaces where previously girls and women were protected. That can have a consequence for all ages in all circumstances. That's why it needs to be a discussion in all areas.

Hmmnotkeen · 21/09/2016 19:33

I've changed my mind on the idea of a separate topic, but I wish people would be clear on their thread title so I don't have to bother.

LineyReborn · 21/09/2016 19:27

I'd love a Misogyny-Free Mumsnet.

ftw · 21/09/2016 19:19

*milpool, which bile? I've not seen any.

Helmetbymidnight · 21/09/2016 19:15

Eu referendum was shunted away so...

I was on the verge of asking for a 'grammar' schools section but that's quietened down a bit now (hurray!)

milpool · 21/09/2016 19:14

I agree with you OP. It'd be lovely to be able to hide it and not have to see all the bile that fills up those threads.

Kit30 · 21/09/2016 19:11

Why not a separate Transnet? It'd be a real money spinner at the moment

LouisvilleLlama · 21/09/2016 19:07

I agree the Eu referendum was swallowing up the boards and it got its own topic don't see why this shouldn't

ftw · 21/09/2016 19:01

Can we have a separate topic for people asking for a separate trans topic?

And I prefer to think of them as 'sexism and misogyny' threads or 'women's rights erosion' threads.

Waltermittythesequel · 21/09/2016 18:55

I disagree.

I think it's important that the damaging, relentless trans-movement is widely acknowledged so women can see their rights being eroded and hopefully want to do something about it.

user1472515172 · 21/09/2016 18:53

I agree that ghettoising this issue is an incredibly bad idea. The current direction of trans activism needs be openly discussed. Asking for a separate trans issues topic right now is a bit like it would have been to ask for a separate "race relations" topic in 1940s South Africa. You might be delighted about being marginalised and stripped of your rights but you really are not entitled to expect that every other woman follows your lead. Put your fingers in your ears, by all means, but don't imagine that the rest of us are going to go quietly.

msrisotto · 21/09/2016 16:51

I disagree. Don't like, don't read. Simple.

LineyReborn · 21/09/2016 16:48

MNHQ already said No.

ageingrunner · 21/09/2016 16:48

I think it's great that awareness is being raised about the subject. And I don't understand what's so difficult and onerous about clicking on a thread and clicking off it again if you're not interested? It's surely something most people do often? Or all day if you're anything like me Blush
