I Would Like To Propose A Solution To The Trans Threads Problem

DioneTheDiabolist · 31/08/2016 22:08

Dear MNHQ, I am pissed off with all the Trans threads. I understand that you don't wish to stifle debate/free speech and all that shit, so I propose 4 threads where all trans posts can be hidden go.

A Fuck Trans thread. For posters who hate that people are trans.
A Yay Trans thread. For posters who wish to support trans people.
A Trans Bunfight Club thread. For posters on the other two threads who want to have a bit of a ruck.
And a What MNHQ Have To Say About Trans Threads thread. For, well I think you get my drift.

All other trans posts on the site can be deleted, no other threads can be started and I can enjoy the site more.

I'm no moany poster and I've never posted on a trans thread before.
Are you saying people are moany just because they hold a different viewpoint?

This one caught my interest as I shared the OP's position and thought the topics seemed a good idea.

almondpudding · 01/09/2016 15:35

How would limiting trans threads create less of an echo Chamber?

IzzyIsBusy · 01/09/2016 15:35

Nobody is stopping them worra. Nobody ever has. Yet their rarely seems to be the same outpouring of support for these sorts of threads as there is on the trans ones.
I see the same posters on the few threads like this one and you of course are one of them.

I would much rather the mil posts have their own topic as they are far more frequent and much more boring than trans threads.

Ego147 · 01/09/2016 15:33

Almost all the posters on here who have said they want to limit trans threads are people who post on them (all pro trans activism) all the time

TBH - it's rare to hear alternate voices and those who do can often face a 'challenging' time on there.

Sometimes it can often feel like only one opinion is being heard. Which can be a bit of an echo chamber. Echo chambers, internet bubbles and filters aren't very objective,

leccybill · 01/09/2016 15:32

There's no need to be so patronising.
I am only stating my position.

I'm grateful that women won the vote and paved the way and I've read about that and enjoyed the history.

But how does that relate to transgender, intersex (whatever that is) and pronouns?

WorraLiberty · 01/09/2016 15:31

Really? I suppose if i look at percentages far more people contribute to the trans threads than those who moan about it needing its own topic.

Yeah that's exactly my point.

Perhaps it's time for the silent ones to speak up, if indeed they are fed up of it.

IzzyIsBusy · 01/09/2016 15:31

I was proving a point. Showing sexism/womens issues can easily be present in leccys life.

paxillin · 01/09/2016 15:29

Maybe its best you hide the important stuff you dont understand theres a good girl

How ugly and patronising.

Blistory · 01/09/2016 15:28

I can understand why the threads frustrate people as the discussion doesn't always seem to move on or make advances.

I can't understand why women aren't interested in the issue at all. If woman isn't defined, then how do we deal with health issues that affect women, reproductive rights that affect women, violence that affects women, women's ability to compete in sport, women's ability to speak about the issues that affect them ?

If we can't define women, if we don't know who they are, how do we protect them ?

IzzyIsBusy · 01/09/2016 15:27

But since the whole trans issue seems to be taking over so many topics/threads now, more people are stepping forward to say they're fed up of it.

Really? I suppose if i look at percentages far more people contribute to the trans threads than those who moan about it needing its own topic. Seems to be the same moany posters who start and join in on these threads.

WorraLiberty · 01/09/2016 15:27

If that's the case almond, perhaps it's time for those who haven't to start stepping forward.

I for one, would like to see a trans issue topic.

Almost all the posters on here who have said they want to limit trans threads are people who post on them (all pro trans activism) all the time.

That is not the same situation as the Brexit threads. It wasn't people respresenting a particular political perspective who were asking for the threads to be moved.

I think the point Navy might be making is that up until now, those who don't want to talk about it, haven't felt the need to particularly state that.

But since the whole trans issue seems to be taking over so many topics/threads now, more people are stepping forward to say they're fed up of it.

Like the Referendum threads/Christmas threads etc.

leccybill · 01/09/2016 15:17

In reply- no, wasn't trying to be disingenuous at all, I genuinely doesn't understand the topic. I've stumbled upon a couple of threads and tried to make sense of it but it's all so aggressive and pushy and jargony, none of which I understand.

And on feminism - I work in a female dominated environment with all of the senior positions held by females.
We have a female PM and Queen in charge of the country.
I just don't feel persecuted about my gender in any way- in fact, I barely give it a thought.

I also think the tone of the many trans threads is more aggressive than the rest of MN. There's no warmth, no humour and no balance - things which I consider to be the spirit of MN (and I've been here over 12 years).

IzzyIsBusy · 01/09/2016 15:03

But from the posts that I keep seeing posters don't want to talk about it.

It cannot be both.
It cannot be "oh there are sooooo many trans threads give them their own topic"
Which is what this thread is Navy and you saying posters dont want to talk about it.

Are you being deliberatley dense Hmm

Man and woman aren't defined by feelings, they are defined by a set of biological characteristics. People can be offended by that if they like- doesn't make it any less true.

thedogstinks · 01/09/2016 14:39

No Tiggy, if you're going to bring race into it, it's kinda like saying Rachel Dalziel is white, despite what she identifies as.

Which, you know, she is.

SenecaFalls · 01/09/2016 14:28

Why is the Trans issue so big on MN?

Because other places on the internet shut down the discussion. Because in real life, it is often not safe for gender critical feminists to express their views.

7Days · 01/09/2016 14:03

It's not about their feelings Tiggy. It's about their chromosomes.

IzzyIsBusy · 01/09/2016 14:03

The n word only exsists because it was used to insult/put down black people/ slaves.

The words man and women ate used as a way of stating a persons biological sex.

Again you are showing an extreme amount of iggnorance Tiggy.

I think you are being goady because nobody is that stupid surely?

7Days · 01/09/2016 14:02

Except 'man' and 'woman' are not insults. They are statements.

TiggyD · 01/09/2016 14:00

Trans people would tend to say it's an insult. But what the fuck do they know. Best you explain what they should find insulting eh?

If only they knew as much about their feeling as you do.
