I Would Like To Propose A Solution To The Trans Threads Problem

DioneTheDiabolist · 31/08/2016 22:08

Dear MNHQ, I am pissed off with all the Trans threads. I understand that you don't wish to stifle debate/free speech and all that shit, so I propose 4 threads where all trans posts can be hidden go.

A Fuck Trans thread. For posters who hate that people are trans.
A Yay Trans thread. For posters who wish to support trans people.
A Trans Bunfight Club thread. For posters on the other two threads who want to have a bit of a ruck.
And a What MNHQ Have To Say About Trans Threads thread. For, well I think you get my drift.

All other trans posts on the site can be deleted, no other threads can be started and I can enjoy the site more.

People who agree to disagree simply don't come on the threads, surely?

almondpudding · 01/09/2016 17:59

Every trans thread I've seen posters come on and say they've found stuff out from reading the threads.

That's why they keep on happening. There are new posters coming on all the time.

Why would there be agreement?

I think usual meant that for me.
Although i was not aware i was shouting. I always understood THIS TO BE SHOUTING when on forums. Don't think i have used caps in my posts in a shouty way any road Confused

CoteDAzur · 01/09/2016 17:36

"There is no bloody debate. It's just shouting down of anyone who doesn't think the same as you. Your post proves my point."

You think I've been shouting?

Am I shouting now? Confused

222CherryCoke · 01/09/2016 17:32

Yes, usual has already made it clear where she stands. So by her own logic, she should just shut up about it now that she's said it once and not "go on and on and on" or try to "shout the loudest" or "lecture" people who "dare to disagree" with her.

Or maybe that only applies if the thing you have an opinion on is the legal redefinition of "woman" and all the implications of that for the rights of women and girls. As opposed to the incredibly important issue of people on mumsnet actually discussing things that you're not interested in Sad Sad Sad

IzzyIsBusy · 01/09/2016 17:31

There is no bloody debate. It's just shouting down of anyone who doesn't think the same as you.

Your post proves my point.

This thread is full of debate. Losts of fors and againsts. Lots of information and arguments for both sides.
I see no debate from you just another throw away comment.
Also i have not once attempted to shut you down if a discussion on the subject is what you want but lets face it you dont care to discuss it.

And your posts proven mine.
Enjoy your evening usual as you say there is clearly mo debate to be had.

WorraLiberty · 01/09/2016 17:26

Usual has already made it clear where she stands on this issue. Hers was the first reply on this thread.

She made it perfectly clear she agrees with the OP.

Unless you mean trans issues, which would take the thread off topic?

"what I think. If it's not the same as you I'd get a -lecture debate "

I corrected that word for you, usual.

paxillin · 01/09/2016 17:18

I think a trans topic might not work because people who like discussing these issues a lot don't want it. It is the people who don't like discussing them who want it.

Not sure where the calls for the Brexit board came from, but Brexiters and Bremainers alike seem happy to post there. The Spartacists on here mostly seem to want trans threads on other boards, so it won't work.

Well thought out post there usual not really sure where you stand on the issue though. Or was it just too good of an oppurtunity for you to miss?

Leccybill, you and others have asked "is there a big equivalent trans forum out there - I take it there's not and that's why people have found a home here?"

Oh, but there is. The internet is alive with pro-trans resources. There's no shortage of sites in favour of it all. There are reality TV shows - "I am Jazz" about a transgender "girl" - offering wholly uncritical support for transitioning children, including drugs and surgery - at younger and younger ages. There are huge resources if you go along with the transition narrative.

However there's a huge shortage of places to debate the issues. I know it's hard to believe, but posting "human beings can't change sex" is enough to get you deleted, even banned, from mainstream national websites.

And there's a lots of things people don't know about the whole movement. My initial response was sympathetic. But then I became aware of troubling truths, for example that 80% of transwomen have, and intend to keep, their penis and a lot of them are sexually attracted to women. Do we want these guys in showers or other women-only spaces? Google "cotton ceiling" if you've got a strong stomach (and aren't so sick of the whole topic you'd rather stick pins in your eyes! Grin)

Our government is talking about people being able to legally change sex by just filling in a form. Men on hormones (no surgery) can now compete against women in international sport. This whole crazy mess has blown out of all proportion in a matter of five years, maybe. And it affects women - and children - massively.

If the trans stuff had been hidden away, umpteen women on MN wouldn't have had any idea about it all. As others had said, it doesn't come up much in everyday life. But the recent threads (all of which I read) have contained loads and loads of posts from women who said they'd only just become aware of just how much this trans business was going to affect them and their kids, especially daughters.

I don't think a trans thread would work. But I don't see why it's a problem to ignore the topic. I ignore loads of topics, but I love that they're all there. Someone, somewhere wants to talk about nasty neighbours, Eastenders or Bridezillas - and that's great. Smile

222CherryCoke · 01/09/2016 16:44

*But what the fuck do they know. Best you explain what they should find insulting eh?

If only they knew as much about their feeling as you do.*

TiggyD .... what the fuck do biological males know about womanhood? Best they and their MRA allies explain to us women what we should find insulting, eh? If only we knew as much about what it is to "feel like a woman" as people with male reproductive systems and male socialisation do.

LineyReborn · 01/09/2016 16:43

It's a thread where people declare that they will refer to trans women as men and trans men as women, and that it's not transphobic, and all the trans people who say it is are wrong.

That would be like declaring you're going to call black people niggers

Bloody hell. Can't quite believe I just read that.

And threads on MN are not compulsory. If you don't want to read them, then don't.

I think we can all take that as read (scuse the pun) Wink

But what's the point in having any topics at all then?

No-one had to read the Brexit threads or the Christmas threads or any other threads that were given their own topic either.

That didn't stop people asking for them.

jellycat1 · 01/09/2016 16:27

Yes she did jelly. Not a fan of irony?

Yep huge fan usually. This one passed me by though. My bad.
