I Would Like To Propose A Solution To The Trans Threads Problem

Dear MNHQ, I am pissed off with all the Trans threads. I understand that you don't wish to stifle debate/free speech and all that shit, so I propose 4 threads where all trans posts can be hidden go.

A Fuck Trans thread. For posters who hate that people are trans.
A Yay Trans thread. For posters who wish to support trans people.
A Trans Bunfight Club thread. For posters on the other two threads who want to have a bit of a ruck.
And a What MNHQ Have To Say About Trans Threads thread. For, well I think you get my drift.

All other trans posts on the site can be deleted, no other threads can be started and I can enjoy the site more.

I guess it's the aggresive agenda pushing I dislike.

There's plenty of vegans on MN but you don't see them pushing the merits of paleo lifestyles in everyone's faces (much).

IPityThePontipines · 01/09/2016 22:21

doesn't that seem a bit like silencing the women?

No, it doesn't.

And stop waving the "affects all women" card. Most women in RL could not care less. Most women on MN could not care less.

leccybill · 01/09/2016 22:19

On a good number of AIBUs though, after an initial viper sting- the OP often accepts YABU or YANBU with good grace and further understanding after all of the different contributions (or they disappear if it's a unanimous YABU!)

Who knew ultra feminists were so bitchy?!

IzzyIsBusy · 01/09/2016 22:17

Izzy, if you think that In-laws need their own topic, start a thread in Site Stuff about it.

No i think i will choose the grown up option of just not opening them or if i do closing them and moving on.

poorbuthappy · 01/09/2016 22:16

Trans stuff is like Christmas.
There's a whole topic for it so people can avoid but some fucker will still put it in chat so hey ho what to do.

IzzyIsBusy · 01/09/2016 22:16

Not once did i insult usual. Or break talk guidlines. Nor did she so why would i report?
It is my observation only.

Two wrongs dont make a right.....are you serious?
So we are only allowed one topic to be nasty and all other topics and discussions must be flowery and light?

Trans thread evoke strong opinions from both sides. That is not a bad thing. However shoving such an emotive topic in a corner is a bad thing. Especially a topic that at its core is discussing the errosion of womens rights. Given this site has mostly female members doesnt that seem a bit like silencing the women?

IPityThePontipines · 01/09/2016 22:14

The people arguing the toss for trans threads everywhere are not really covering themselves in glory here.

But thanks izzy for perfectly illustrating one of the most irritating things about the trans threads:

Any disagreement is "silencing", "shutting down the conversation", or most ludicrously still, "gaslighting".

You don't want a debate, you want to share anecdotes from the far corners of the internet and pat each other on the back about what brave, feminist activists you all are and how stupid everyone else is.

That's it. That's your "debate" which you insist on having all over Mumsnet and you can namecall all you want, I do not care.

DioneTheDiabolist · 01/09/2016 22:12

I don't see anything in usual's posts trying to shut this thread down, and frankly I don't believe that anyone really believes that any poster has the power to do that. If anyone thinks she's breaking any rules they need to report it: shouting her down and being insulting and unpleasant hardly puts you on the moral high ground.

Sure, some threads in AIBU get unpleasant and plenty of people are put off by that also. Need I point out the truism about two wrongs not making a right?

7Days · 01/09/2016 22:09

cross posted with loads, and managed to sound pass agg to Judy. Not intended!

7Days · 01/09/2016 22:08

I dunno Judy, tone or no tone, the facts do speak for themselves - imo.

And if I had a gender questioning child, I suppose I'd do a search and see what comes up.

IzzyIsBusy · 01/09/2016 22:06

I have explained my issue usual in my pp.

I do agree with leccy and usual that one of the problems with the trans threads is how aggressive they get

Yes and AIBU is a gentle walk in the park posted on by members of the WI only yet hey its still her as mn most popular topic. Funny that.

Ego147 · 01/09/2016 22:01

For every person who comes onto those threads and says she ends up better informed, I wonder how many have actually been put off by their tone

That's a good point. The tone can be off putting - and that's why the more recent 'bullshit' threads were reasonably okay to post on.

Obviously AIBU and Chat are probably the busiest sections of MN. However, If I had a mega important issue like my daughter wanting to be trans and wanted information about it, for sure I wouldn't be looking in either of those sections to find it.

I do agree with leccy and usual that one of the problems with the trans threads is how aggressive they get. More than once I've seen some unfortunate who dared to disagree with the prevailing wisdom becoming the target of multiple attacks until she's driven away. It doesn't always happen - I ventured with some trepidation onto the bullshit threads and was delighted to find a civilised discussion going on. However, we're seeing that aggression again here with people totally arbitrarily deciding to have a go at usual and Ego. For every person who comes onto those threads and says she ends up better informed, I wonder how many have actually been put off by their tone?

Ego147 · 01/09/2016 21:54

And the circle begins again

I don't think I have seen you properly engaging with anyone

Your distain for opinions on this site is clear

Oh you have had your lightbulb moment. Goodo

Indeed.

IBelieveTheEarthIsFlat · 01/09/2016 21:52

And the circle begins again

Ego147 · 01/09/2016 21:50

Oh you have had your lightbulb moment. Goodo

And people wonder why some people avoid such threads Hmm

LineyReborn · 01/09/2016 21:48

Tbh I think the trans / Spartacus threads have been an extraordinarily interesting way of getting feminism onto the 'mainstream' boards.

IBelieveTheEarthIsFlat · 01/09/2016 21:48

Oh you have had your lightbulb moment. Goodo.

IzzyIsBusy · 01/09/2016 21:47

Plus until mnhq clear up their stance on biology and truth there cant be a dedicated topic.

Ego147 · 01/09/2016 21:44

That's not what the thread is about. Check the title. But nice try

It's part of the issue though. A trans section could be a good place for parents who have children who might be trans to discuss things and find out stuff in one section.

OTOH - it could be accused of 'burying' the trans section.

IzzyIsBusy · 01/09/2016 21:44

Because some posters choose to just look in AIBU or chat. The active threads also change quickly where as in each topic they tend to stay more active and on the first page.

I cannot see your problem tbh Dion. The trans threads have only recently become noticed and more posters are cobtributing yet the coubtles mil/pil/sil threads have been around for an age, there are tons of them but no calls for them to have their own topic. Same with the wedding ones.

So why is it only the trans threads, which are not trans hating or transphobic and are aiming to protect womens rights, have moany they should have their own topic threads?

Most trans threads are titled as such so whats so difficult about mot clicking? Or is a missed opportunity to moan if you dont?
