What is it with the place marking frenzy?

I'm fairly new here but beginning to find my way around. When there's an interesting post with lots of replies people start "blatantly place marking" all over the shop. What's that all about? Surely these people who've been on MN lots longer than me have discovered the bookmark option on a thread? Am I missing something here or do I need to start "blatantly place marking"?

I don't agree that there is a frenzy - I haven't seen this more recently than usual.

I also don't agree that bookmarking is the answer - I don't check "Threads I'm watching" only "Threads I'm on".

I do think that people must be quite slow of thinking if they can't come up with something vaguely relevant to say rather than "Place marking" or the dreaded "F".

bazingasheldon · 13/08/2016 10:22

I don't get all the placemarking stuff either. I just watch thread and still get to see the deletion message.

Destinysdaughter · 13/08/2016 10:21

it's for us lazy buggers innit? Grin

ShowOfHands · 13/08/2016 10:18

Classics must never be closed. I shan't stand for it.

Thank you :)

cozietoesie · 13/08/2016 00:34

Do it on the main site, Wonder. They don't show on the iOS app.

Wondermoomin · 13/08/2016 00:24

Dame thanks, I've looked there though and nothing... Am on the phone app if that makes a difference. Might try it on my laptop tomorrow.

Vvlgari · 13/08/2016 00:00

What aggravates me more than the twee 'shameless placemarking' type comments is people who just post a single full stop. I have certainly placemarked in the past, but at least I try and contribute something to the discussion.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 12/08/2016 23:58

When you check ' threads I'm on' Wonder.

Wondermoomin · 12/08/2016 23:40

Where do you see deletion messages? I never seem to see any, and it's annoying when something I've commented on just disappears.

StaleOreo · 12/08/2016 21:28

I've just whined about the calibre of the actual trolls on another thread, now I get the opportunity to whine about deletion messages too. Grin
They're not a patch on what they were in the good old days.

Along with the xxx's and the lols and the huns and the "am I cow/bitch/slut" type posts MN is really going down the drain. Wink

DonkeyOaty · 12/08/2016 20:23

Cozie shhhhh la la la

WaitrosePigeon · 12/08/2016 20:08

Sometimes they are good!

cozietoesie · 12/08/2016 20:00

Never mind, Donkey. When they close Classic and move you onto New, you'll find out all about bookmarks. Grin

PortiaCastis · 12/08/2016 19:41

Have a lovely evening

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 12/08/2016 19:37

It was a troll thread Grin

Sparklingbrook · 12/08/2016 19:34

On an obviously troll thread I am tempted to post 'well i never'. Grin

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 12/08/2016 19:32

I put a full stop the other day, I couldn't think of anything to sayGrin

BertieBotts · 12/08/2016 19:32

It's not placemarking in terms of "this is where I've read up to" it's more that they want the thread to go into threads I'm on because they don't use watching. Or, yes, the deletion message thing.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 12/08/2016 19:32

Can't book mark on my phone, so I place mark.

You don't have to be polite to trolls.

Sparklingbrook · 12/08/2016 19:27

If i want to placemark I actually write something-I think of something. I think it's pretty rude to just put a full stop or 'placemarking' on a thread that might actually be real.
