Not sure where to ask about this awful terrible baby advice you have published?

What on earth?

Mumsnet advice pages used to be reasonably balanced and evidence based. Saw this shared on Facebook and wondered wtf someone was thinking?

Make it stop before someone tries this bollocks on their new baby!

I don't understand why people get so angry, these are guidelines, not a mandatory way of life.

I so wish I had all those advice for my first, my life would have been a lot happier. It works for all my others, apart from the swaddling. It's true that in most cases, if a baby eats enough during the day, he won't need to be fed at night. If a baby doesn't cry at night and sleep happily, as well as putting on weight, it means he doesn't need to be fed every 30mn.

It is also true, in most cases, that if a baby sleeps for hours during the day, he might not sleep so well at night.

You can parent as you please, no one is forcing you .I have tried and witnessed these advice overseas, and they work. You might believe it's bollocks, but other mums will benefit greatly from help. I can testify I tried these, and they work for me.

CauliflowerBalti · 06/08/2016 20:54

Really not cool. Disappointing.

LoreleiGilmoreIsMyBFF · 06/08/2016 20:54

What the fuckity fuck? Clearly written by someone who has never actually met a baby.... Will also report.

Teddy1970 · 06/08/2016 20:53

This is like something my MIL would write, it's so archaic...

53rdAndBird · 06/08/2016 20:50

Bloody hell, MNHQ, that is awful. Have you got Gina Ford working on commission over there or something?

NoTractorsAtTheTable · 06/08/2016 20:48

It seems to go against Mumsnet raison d'être - "Make parents' lives easier by pooling knowledge, advice and support"

Those prescriptive rules go entirely against that ethos.

That article is a pile of shit Hmm

Philoslothy · 06/08/2016 20:44

It seems to be very dated advice. I had my first children nearly two decades ago - this was the advice I was given.

Oly5 · 06/08/2016 20:43

This advice is awful and will
Just put pressure on new mums. Babies don't really self-settle do they MN??
Terrible, just go with the flow is the best advice I ever had.
New babies do not sleep well at night. That's it. End of. They're not programmed to. The sooner we accept that, the better

lovelilies · 06/08/2016 20:43

That really is a big pile of shit.
Shame on you MN!! Angry

JassyRadlett · 06/08/2016 20:43

Christ alive. That is some shit (and potentially dangerous) advice.

Swaddled and tucked down for a nap -erm isn't that against SIDS advice?

Also why would you wake a sleeping baby?
Was this advice taken directly from gina ford she who will not be mentioned?

ridiculouspirate · 06/08/2016 20:40

Just in case they didn't spot it in feeding or all the Facebook anger. ...

OP posts:
lljkk · 06/08/2016 20:40

I didn't think it was all that shite, actually.
But then again, when I joined MN, Gina Ford was all the rage -- every other thread was about getting baby to sleep at precisely 7:07pm etc.
I coslept with mine until they were 2-3-4-5 yo, anyway.

ridiculouspirate · 06/08/2016 20:40

So annoyed I posted two threads GrinBlush

Oh, it's your own tread op. You can find it yourself Grin

BifsWif · 06/08/2016 20:38

I actually thought it was a joke when I read it.

You've failed massively with this one MN.

BastardBernie · 06/08/2016 20:37

Wow, that is possibly the worst advice page I have read about babies, ever.

MovingOnUpMovingOnOut · 06/08/2016 20:37

There's another thread about this. I'll find it...

FoxesSitOnBoxes · 06/08/2016 20:36

I am really pleased that everyone else thinks this is as shit as I thought it was. Poor new mums trying to force their babies into fitting in with this. Horrible pressure. And the "face it- this might be the only way you get a good night sleep" or whatever it is comment on the Facebook post. absolute balls. Angry

insan1tyscartching · 06/08/2016 20:36

Meh did pretty similar with mine, all five slept through the night in their own cots from being six weeks old. Mine are aged 29 to 13 now and that was the expected routine when the eldest four were babies and I did the same with the youngest regardless of current advice. They all thrived and I was happier having a routine.

Kalispera · 06/08/2016 20:35

What a load of crap! Don't let the baby sleep too long but take it out for a walk so it'll sleep longer. Confused

And really don't change a nappy after every feed unless it really needs changed. Why the fuck would you do that to a full, cosy baby who is just ready for a nap?

Whoknowswhoknows · 06/08/2016 20:35

What a horrific pile of shite! Please do something about this asap, MN!
