Not sure where to ask about this awful terrible baby advice you have published?

www.mumsnet.com/babies/features/developing-a-routine

What on earth?

Mumsnet advice pages used to be reasonably balanced and evidence based. Saw this shared on Facebook and wondered wtf someone was thinking?

Make it stop before someone tries this bollocks on their new baby!

Crikey....I thought this thread was an over reaction until I read the link. What a load of out-dated, cruel bollocks. Making a newborn go 3-4 hours without a feed?? Just plain cruel. Horrible undertones of "you'll make a rod for your own back putting your baby's needs first".

Utter tosh that would be so so unhelpful for a vulnerable first time mum who was a bit unsure if themselves.

ridiculouspirate · 06/08/2016 21:15

Is she paying you to punt her book or website MN?

Agree cat and ragwort

This thread and the other is pretty awful imo. If someone wants to bring their baby up in a way that doesn't harm them or themselves then that's completely up to them.

no wonder there's so many threads on crap sleepers

Spudlet · 06/08/2016 21:14

Wake them up for feeds? What madness is this?!

We did that once. Never again. Never.

Teaching a baby to self-settle; Bursts out laughing. One of mine figured it out in days, one after several years. I don't believe my actions had any affect.

NeedACleverNN · 06/08/2016 21:10

Who the hell is Rachel Waddilove?

Never heard of her and I don't think I want to.

Even the advice for FF babies is to feed on demand and never force them to finish a bottle

Christine88 · 06/08/2016 21:09

I agree and I read this and thought I don't remember it being like that with ds1 who is now 2 and a half and definitely doesn't wake for food in the night! and now 7 weeks in with ds2 I'm definitely doing something wrong!! They sleep eventually...they get in a routine eventually! Crap like this makes everyone worry!

Pussywillows · 06/08/2016 21:08

That's crazy! I have 18 week old twins and none of this would work for us as a family, they love their daytime naps (unswaddled Wink) and sleep really well at night. If ever we change a nappy after a feed they both throw up, so I change them before their feeds.
All babies are different, trying to follow this sort of routine will make a lot of mums worry they aren't doing well if their babies don't react well to it.

JustWantToBeDorisAgain · 06/08/2016 21:07

Most of that 'advice' is just shit which is more than likely to add stress to new mothers.

Shame on you HQ Would the advice by any chance be directed by nurofen?

LynetteScavo · 06/08/2016 21:07

*feeds

LynetteScavo · 06/08/2016 21:06

Its bollocks.

And I say this as the mother of a baby who put him myself into a routine...the same one GF prescribes. Although I didn't read the book until he was 2.

How the hell do you space Feds out for fucks sake??? B

ridiculouspirate · 06/08/2016 21:06

That was in reply to Ragwort.

OP posts:
ridiculouspirate · 06/08/2016 21:05

That's fine if you choose to do that.

This article almost presents itself as fact though. And is not the experience of most people with a bf newborn.

MephistoMarley · 06/08/2016 21:05

The advice that babies who sleep in your arms will develop bad habits is clearly bollocks especially with a very young baby.

Ragwort · 06/08/2016 21:04

Agree with cat - and I am sure other people probably agree but daren't post on this thread because they have a different opinion.

Many people like to follow a GF routine and it can work very well for some people. I followed it, loved it, had a happy, sleeping baby from day 1 - may have been sheer luck of course Grin.

It is very prescriptive.

Babies need x...

You must do this or y will happen...

OP posts:
53rdAndBird · 06/08/2016 21:00

I can testify I tried these, and they work for me.

And I can testify I tried some of these, because of family and HV telling me I had to, and ended up with a furious, hungry, overtired baby, painful blocked ducts, and a lot of crying from both of us. Glad I gave up pronto.

FusionChefGeoff · 06/08/2016 21:00

What
The
Fuck

Get rid, now please, MN

FoxesSitOnBoxes · 06/08/2016 21:00

It's not the advice so much as the tone. That somehow you are doing it wrong if you don't do this. And it does not fit at all with establishing breastfeeding by feeding on demand.

ridiculouspirate · 06/08/2016 20:59

And don't forget to change the nappy every time too. ....

JudyCoolibar · 06/08/2016 20:58

Wind your baby after every feed? Mine rarely needed winding

pitterpatterrain · 06/08/2016 20:56

I was thinking "what is all the fuss about" then I just read it

What crap
