That's it really.

Mine would be hate or violence against trans people. Mine would not be "misgendering" or acknowledging transwomen are male and that they are not women.

Daschund 'cis' means you identify with a socially constructed gender role. I am a woman. I do not identify with being submissive or frivolous or a gossip or shoes or any of the other stereotypes about women. I am not cis and I believe no person is.

Thefitfatty · 08/07/2016 21:05

I already said what I thought transphobic is, anyone questioning or doubting a persons belief in who they are, the rest has been answering transphobic rhetoric that is so fucking rife on an otherwise open minded site.

BeyondVulvaResistance · 08/07/2016 21:03

Fit. What does that have to do with clarifying what is transphobic posting on mn?

BeyondVulvaResistance · 08/07/2016 21:02

Dachshund, there's a whole other thread about cis, if you really want to know why people don't like it

Thefitfatty · 08/07/2016 21:02

There is no such thing as female only spaces. There are no rooms in the world that will only open in the prscence of a vagina. Get that whole idea out of your head and you will realize both how vulnerable you are, and how silly this conversation is.

EightNoineTen · 08/07/2016 21:02

I think transphobia is when someone physically or verbally attacks a trans person for being trans. But the truth is I think the type of idiots likely to carry out violent attacks are more likely to be doing so for homophobic reasons.

Dachshund · 08/07/2016 21:00

Genuine question... seriously why do any of you give a flying fuck about being called 'cis'. It's just a descriptor. It makes precisely zero difference to my privledged life to acknowledge I was born in the body with the sex that I also identify with.

There's so much rubbing of hands in despair over men invading our spaces but I'd like to hear all your personal accounts of this happening. I'm sure you all actually deal with trans people day to day unawares - there's more than you think.

It's like saying 'why do I need to be called "white" I'm a human' Sad when black people are being gunned down by police.

I just don't understand the vitriol and handwringing about trans people on here. They're just trying to live their lives and find some happiness.

Thefitfatty · 08/07/2016 21:00

We need to stop pretending sexual identification and gender matter and actually address the real issues. Rape culture is not about men's and women's bathrooms or men's and women's prisons

What's stopping a guy dressed as a guy entering these "female spaces". Nothing.

Thefitfatty · 08/07/2016 20:56

I really could care less what someone calls me, my priority is to stand up for vulnerable people. And like it or not, trans people (men and women) have some of the highest rates of domestic violence, rape and assault against them in addition to the highest suicide rates.
Cis, like straight, gay, bi, black, white, yellow, blond, etc is a label for a thing that is increasingly hard to label. Because people don't fit in boxes. And it's going to get even harder to box as time goes on. But for the love of Pete, stop acting like trans women are public enemy number 1. They are just people trying to figure out where they belong like the vast majority of us. They aren't trying to steal your vaginas.

As a raped woman I'd rather hang out with a room full of trans women than a room full of female convicts any day

BertrandRussell · 08/07/2016 20:56

"Or is it rapists taking advantage of a situation in order to rape?"

Of course it is. Whether or not the person is actually towns or pretending to be. But if any questioning of a person's self identification is forbidden, how do you suggest we deal with that situation

BertrandRussell · 08/07/2016 20:54

Pressed "send" too soon.

So if that means pointing out that not all trains women actually look like women, so would be intimidating to vulnerable women regardless of the actual threat they present then I will point that out. And I do not believe I am being transphobic if I do.

BertrandRussell · 08/07/2016 20:48

Sorry, yes, you're right.

Transphobia is a tricky issue and different from other "isms" because nobody can being any doubt whether sombody is black or not, for example.

But I have been called transphobic because I will not use "cis". And my priority is the protection of women's rights and safety, and sometimes that means not being as delicate spoken as I would like to be. And I am not ashamed of that. Trains people should be comfortable, safe and respected, but not at the expense of comfort and safety of other people.

BeyondVulvaResistance · 08/07/2016 20:48

Fit, it's starting to look like you are purposely derailing

Thefitfatty · 08/07/2016 20:47

So it's only trans women raping female refugees?

Thefitfatty · 08/07/2016 20:46

ouriana you're right. Statistically that is incorrect. Because trans women actually experience the highest level of rape in prison, and the highest rates of domestic violence and murder in general.

Well I've been raped, yet somehow manage to interact with people with penises every day. Where is this fantastical land of no penises of which you speak?

BeyondVulvaResistance · 08/07/2016 20:37

Perhaps we could save this for another thread, one that's actually about trans-in-general? Rather than derail this one?

BertrandRussell · 08/07/2016 20:37

"A vulnerable female (or male) has more to fear from someone of their own "biology" in these situations than they do a trans person."

Really? A woman who has been raped would, I imagine find it very difficult to share a space with a person with a penis, even if that person is completely unthreatening. And I don't think she should have to.

*Today 20:22 Ouriana

There is a difference between embracing transgender, and the erosion of womens rights.

I would fully support anyones right to live as the gender they relate too, however there are biological differences between male and female and to ignore these is to ignore womens rights.

Should a vunerable woman in a prison or a refuge have to share a safe, female only space with someone who has a penis?

Should a female athelete have to compete in a female only event with someone who has a distinct biological advantage due to being born male?*

Should a vulnerable woman have to share space with a violent woman? Should a vulnerable man have to share space with a violent man? The penis issue is a red herring here. A vulnerable female (or male) has more to fear from someone of their own "biology" in these situations than they do a trans person.
