Banning the term "cis"

OlennasWimple · 06/07/2016 23:36

Apologies if this had already been done, but can MNHQ consider banning the term "cis", given how horrifically offensive so many users of MN find it?

I don't think I need to set out the background and reasoning to this request (but can do so if it would help!)

thought you'd gone?

MsKite · 07/07/2016 17:03

Don't fucking weep on my behalf thanks, soren. Does not being able to understand simple things also extend to those who can't comprehend that there are 2 sexes, and gender is made-up bollocks??
Anyone who buys into it all is a fool

CoteDAzur · 07/07/2016 17:02

"Also, you have managed to exhaust me."

I'm sorry that you find reality dictionary definitions so exhausting Hmm

"If I am to be educated, I would probably request someone other than you, because what you say is literal bs."

All I said was tell you about dictionary definitions and also point out that you can't make meanings up in your head.

"Transwomen are women!"

I'm sure you are coming from a place of love and compassion when you say that, but it just isn't true. They are not female (again, see dictionary definitions) and so cannot be women (which means 'adult human female').

I don't know what to say to your protest re how exhausting you find a civil conversation about dictionary definitions this except, maybe, that you should give it a rest now & come back again in a few years when you are a bit older & more resilient?

PortiaCastis · 07/07/2016 17:02

I've already procreated and because I don't agree with your terminology you scream bigot
Ho hum

KittyLaRoux · 07/07/2016 17:02

I hope none of you procreate, no reason to carry on bigotry.

Ha ha ha yeah ok then.

Not wanting to be shoved in yet another corner of society by MEN does not make me a bigot it makes me opressed.

SorenaJ · 07/07/2016 17:02

Bengal Preach. But I mean, people are only non-binary if they identify as such. People in general are uncomfirtable with being grouped in like that, like the cis discussion here (I totally get their points, I'm just rejecting their arguments ;) ) just like not all non-binary are trans, if they don't identify as such.

SeekEveryEveryKnownHidingPlace · 07/07/2016 17:02

You're actually an offensive idiot, Serena, rather than just an idiot. I'm managing not to weep for you, but I am reporting you for that extremely offensive comment about procreation.

And you can report me for calling you an utter fool if you like.

OurBlanche · 07/07/2016 17:01

Y'all are outside of pedagogical reach. Yes were, by definition:

We are adults, so the word you were looking for was andragogy

ErrolTheDragon · 07/07/2016 17:00

'evolving to suit our purposes'

whose purposes? Redefining 'woman' and the invention of cis suits the purposes of some transactivists and some other men. It does not suit the purposes of the majority of WOMEN.

SeekEveryEveryKnownHidingPlace · 07/07/2016 17:00

So basically everyone who isn't hyper feminine, or hyper man is non-binary

That's so wrong I can't even begin with it. Gender constructs a binary where there needn't be one, about behaviour, tastes, preferences and predilections. We don't have to organize ourselves by this imposed binary. We do have to accept the binary of man/woman, because it's biological. I'm not non-bloody-binary, I'm a woman who doesn't buy into all the notions people have made up about what it means to be a woman.

Bengal, in the nicest possible way, you've listened agog to a vociferous poster and then read a website which endorses that view - I don't think I would call that 'background knowledge' which places you in a position to assign labels to people.

TheRealPosieParker · 07/07/2016 17:00

"Okay, I'm out. Your brains are obviously wired in a weird way that makes you unable to see the simplest things, and I honestly don't have time for that. Y'all are outside of pedagogical reach. Seriously, yes. I weep for humanity. -I hope none of you procreate, no reason to carry on the bigotry-"

Yes, please weep.... that's what women do.

OurBlanche · 07/07/2016 16:59

So basically everyone who isn't hyper feminine, or hyper man is non-binary

No, that is saying that unless you are whwtver your society percieves to be very 'him' or very 'her' you are neither one nor the other. So if you are Barbie or Action Man you are OK to be woman/man.

See the flaw?

"A cis man is not more of a man than a transman is"

A yet a man's penis that shoots sperm and provides fertilisation for an egg is only found on a man....

^^ This.

It is very simple. Women dont need to be given a new name just because trans women want the original name of woman.

You have men, women, trans women and trans men. More than enough and easy to distinguish between all 3.

Defining the meaning of woman to mean any fucker that fancies it is demeaning to women.

An adult female has many biological markers, it's why we have a different medicalised pathway in the UK.... not because we paint our nails and cry at movies 'cause we're sensitive.

Don't you mind being part of a movement that seeks to devalue women? That has decided violence against women is less of an issue than violence against transwomen? That tells women to shut up for wanting to protect herself.

CoteDAzur · 07/07/2016 16:57

"CoteDAzur languages evolve constantly."

Yeah, well, this one hasn't evolved yet in the direction that you seem so desperate to see it go.

The word "woman" just does NOT mean "whoever fancies themselves in makeup and heels and thinks they are female". It just doesn't.

A word means what the dictionaries say it means. Not what you want it to mean.

ParanoidGynodroid · 07/07/2016 16:57

A cis man is not more of a man than a transman is,

There are no words.

Transwomen are women!

No, transwomen are transwomen.

SeekEveryEveryKnownHidingPlace · 07/07/2016 16:55

I'm not 'not down with the lingo' - I reject the lingo and find it deeply problematic. She doesn't need to be be 'patient with us' - we just disagree!

SeekEveryEveryKnownHidingPlace · 07/07/2016 16:54

Ok, I've made up two names to describe two groups of people - man and woman. You don't have to 'identify' as one or the other, but you are one or the other, and I reserve the right to call you it.

Wouldn't that make a bit more sense?

transgenderism is science - I'm sorry? Would you like to explain that again?
