Hey MNHQ. Would it be possible to have a discussion about how SN issues/threads are handled on the main boards.

I know you are fire fighting a bit and I'm not trying to stir things up.

I just think that there are endless threads that require you to get involved and try to (for the sake of a better word) mediate between pissed of posters with no real experience of SN/disability and pissed off member of the SN/disability community.

I think you try really really hard to be fair and even handed. It's an understandable response but I have growing doubts about it.
There have been half a dozen threads recently where posters I recognise as living with SN/disability issues deal with a continuous stream of posts from any random who pops up on a thread making the same stupid, ill informed or frankly goady post.
It's like swimming through a tidal wave of shit.
Then, as posters get increasingly exasperated by each arriving poster saying 'well I'm not putting my buggy away if my baby is asleep' or 'why can't I use the disabled toilet if it's empty' or 'but people with SN can be violent. I know of stabbing someone and attacks all the time' they get rude and the thread descends into eurrgh.

I'm still reading constant posts where anyone affected by disability is berated if they are angry, the message being 'be nice, be grateful or we don't have to be fair'

It seems to me that the status quo of 'fairness' is simply unfair.
Posters already dealing with immense difficulty shouldn't be forced to defend themselves against every person who turns up and says unpleasant things under the umbrella of debate. You said a long time ago it was not our responsibility to educate but the reality is that, with no palpable support from you guys, we are endlessly having to educate.

I am not pretending to have the answer but is it possible to contemplate methods by which you could actually say to posters saying 'if someone in a wheelchair can't use their space because I'm not putting my buggy away' that their comments are wrong and not in the spirit of the site?

You link to the This Is My Child campaign but the posters who are the problem won't care and won't read it.

I don't know - I just wonder if you could think about this.
Sometimes there are not two sides to a debate because only one side is directly affected, exhausted, distressed and having their lives and their children's lives made harder.

Jasonandyawegunorts · 24/06/2016 15:13

Best to avoid all this EU stuff Samco it's now got so stupid.

Akire · 24/06/2016 15:10

Thanks samcro just saw that reflection. Drawing it away from blue space no badge! Why you have to start a thread for something took 30 second I don't know. But since we all on edge for another bashing my heart did sink.

Samcro · 24/06/2016 15:08

Akire · 24/06/2016 14:59

Ok. But if it's to tell me that I have money in Nigeria and I need to send you funds to move it, I'm not falling for that again. Grin

Sorry to disappoint - it's in Kenya!

NeedACleverNN · 23/06/2016 21:38

But Pag your money is on its way. I promise. If you send another £100, I can guarantee it will be here tomorrow

Taking a little break for the sake of my blood pressure

Pagwatch have sent you a pm

Akire · 23/06/2016 21:09

I'm up to help, but feel too ill tonight. Will try tomorrow :)

Flouncy · 23/06/2016 20:14

I'm up for tackling some tomorrow when on the PC. Laying down on tablet right now alternating between DS's virtual world propoganda (his mental safe place when the real worlds become too much) and DD's anxiety about something different happening at school tomorrow.

Baconyum · 23/06/2016 20:11

Gawd I'm still wading through disabled parking and toilets! Anyone else doing this?

Lonnysera · 23/06/2016 19:36

Great idea! Can we add SN kids being excluded to that list?

SauvignonBlanche · 23/06/2016 19:27

Good idea Baconyum.

Baconyum · 23/06/2016 18:54

Ok may take me a wee while

Flouncy · 23/06/2016 18:47

Baconyum I think that would be a really good way forwards.

If they were all posted as separate posts on here any of us could refer back and copy/ paste as appropriate.

Baconyum · 23/06/2016 18:43

You know what that gives me an idea

I think I'm going to create separate documents listing as many of the threads I can find relating to the following so a document each for

Wheelchairs on buses

Using disabled toilets

Access to shops etc

Pox roaming

And copy and paste each time those threads appear

What do we think?

Jasonandyawegunorts · 23/06/2016 18:43
Grin Jason's fine
Flouncy · 23/06/2016 18:42

Sorry Jasonandyawegunorts I had cut your user name to post in the above, then lost it when I cut and pasted the list and tied myself in knots not wanting to refer to you as just Jason and not fully remembering the spelling for the rest of your user name.

Jasonandyawegunorts · 23/06/2016 18:38

Thread is still there, but 46 posts have been deleted.

bialystockandbloom · 23/06/2016 18:35

Fantastic post at 12.15 oddpag pag Star Star Star

Was that baby changing thread deleted? If so, for what stated reasons?

Jasonandyawegunorts · 23/06/2016 18:22

really liked the post on the changing room thread linking to all the disabled toilet posts of old.

It was far far from all of them, Justthe ones i coudl be bothered to link to.

Flouncy · 23/06/2016 18:20

I do like a list. I do think that some progress is being made. This list started earlier in the thread. Anyone feel like adding to it?

1.faster action on reports MNHQ assure us more staff are starting imminently and we should see progress in this area.

2 clear deletion messages stating WHY deleted MNHQ assure us that behind the scenes stuff is happening with this but currently they can only use the standard delete post message. We've also talked on this thread about a drop down option within the report system that automates the deleted due to ... message.

3 persistent offenders banned - no more just paying lip service to '3 strikes and out' do it!

4 instead of 'peace and love' keep it simple for the clearly hard of thinking offenders - 'Disablist posts will NOT be tolerated, if you post disablist posts you WILL be deleted and risk a ban' . MNHQ are starting to post a bit more on the most contentious threads

5 On buses wheelchair vs pushchair thread (they come up so often) please could we have a standard MNHQ message to put weight behind support of the needs of the disabled person and to clarify reasonable adjustment is law.

6 On pox/ infectious child type threads (another one that appears regularly) please could we have a standard MNHQ message to put weight behind supporting the needs of those who are immune repressed or for whom exposure could cause significant harm.

7. Sort out the TIMC page that is always linked to - it is ugly, hard to navigate and should really have the myths section as the most obvious bit on the page - the myths section also needs some serious updating with stuff about wheelchair spaces/disabled toilets / all the other topics that are repeated every week.

3-7 no progress as yet. Personally, I really liked the post on the changing room thread linking to all the disabled toilet posts of old. That could be a way forward at knocking threads dead if we all just link ad Infinitum to where it's already been said.
