Can we have a new rule, please, that UserName987654321987654321 has to

namechange before they post a new thread.

Because I'm getting confused. There are so many people with UserName in their UserName that I'm in danger of being extremely rude to one of them mixing them up and thinking a new one is an old one or a previously banned one.

I am old and confused.

I think they have to take the name allocated to them when they register, for some reason, but could they not be auto-sked to namechange before posting? Pretty please.

OP posts:

I got horribly confused with username 123456789098765432 who has six children and two dogs and username1234567898987654321 who is 24.
Kept thinking how is this ever possible, esp the dogs....

Please name change to something sensible. Even PrettyMummy or LovelyMum6 will do.

So is this username bullshit generated by MNHQ at the point of signing up? If so, then I agree with the OP

I also agree with Lemony, new posters should only be allowed to post in the newbie section until otherwise promoted by a select group of royalty users Grin

My opinion is that having a nn like this, with a long random sequence of numbers is designed to obfuscate. As a result I don't read the post. I might well be unfair, but it is how I feel.

They're all "username14....."

Pisses me right off. I think it should be that you can't post under this temporary app username drivel or whatever it is and you can only post when you've verified your email and renamed.

I thought username7483927161639 was having a very dramatic life lately....didn't clock they were all different!

ALemonyPea · 09/06/2016 15:14

Or maybe can only post in the newbie bit until they have a proper nickname?

glasgowlass · 09/06/2016 15:11

Yes please! It gets too confusing with multiple "username" followed by numbers on so many threads. I too have nearly been a bit blunt with the wrong "username".

deVelvet · 09/06/2016 15:09

I get what you mean Maryz, I really do. But I just can't seem to get myself het up about it.

That's what is difficult with the typed word. We can only read it in the tone we are in the mood to read it in, iyswim

Going by your recent post, where it refers to pbp/trolls/reporting - all of which are quite negative words around these parts nowadays, it seems that you are looking for fault in every post?

Stop looking and you won't find it.

For someone who has been around as long as we have, surely we know better?

Cherylene · 09/06/2016 15:08

TBH, I can't cope with many of the names, memorywise.

But a row of numbers is just a blurrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr before you even start.

PatriciaHolm · 09/06/2016 15:07

Yep, it's really confusing and annoying. It also makes me immediately think they have either reregistered to be annoying/troll, or are a journalist.

FancyPuffin · 09/06/2016 15:04

Yes!

It's too confusing. Plus it's making it much easier to troll I think.

Seriously Lucy? Confused

Was I on track to bring up royalty? I am royalty ffs Wink

Thisismyalias · 09/06/2016 14:48

Wasn't there a thread ages ago that said that user12456754323 names were an error. Or am I making that up?

deVelvet · 09/06/2016 14:47

yes, you are talking to Username958562325blahblahblah

In anycase, what is in a name? A rose by any other name would still smell as sweet (or some other such bollocks)

LaConnerie · 09/06/2016 14:46

lucy Do calm down dear Smile

TheoriginalLEM · 09/06/2016 14:45

tbh if i see numbers i think troll

MTPurse · 09/06/2016 14:45

I couldn't agree more. It is utterly confusing, I thought UserBlahBlah was one person, I didn't take much notice of the numbers. It wasn't till i read a thread yesterday that I realised. It is confusing for readers but also not fair on the Userblahblahs getting called a troll as people are getting confused.

LucyInTheSkyWithDonuts · 09/06/2016 14:44

Oh and don't start with the Mumsnet royalty crap either....

LucyInTheSkyWithDonuts · 09/06/2016 14:43

It is an issue - if this board is for conversation it's nice to know who you are talking to....

LaConnerie · 09/06/2016 14:42

Ah but deVelvet I get the feeling that for some posters it's all about the name Wink

deVelvet · 09/06/2016 14:41

Complete non-isse in my opinion.

It's not about the name, it's about the content of which they are posting about
