Can we have a new rule, please, that UserName987654321987654321 has to

namechange before they post a new thread.

Because I'm getting confused. There are so many people with UserName in their UserName that I'm in danger of being extremely rude to one of them mixing them up and thinking a new one is an old one or a previously banned one.

I am old and confused.

I think they have to take the name allocated to them when they register, for some reason, but could they not be auto-sked to namechange before posting? Pretty please.

Unnecessary but

SilverBirchWithout · 19/06/2016 23:39

Beyond yes, but if a business changes their processes and in so doing devalues their core products and alienates their existing customers they are seriously damaging the future of their business.

DetestableHerytike · 19/06/2016 15:17

Yeah, fair point!

BeyondTellsEveryoneRealFacts · 19/06/2016 15:15

Yes, thanks for that
But if the new shortened checkout process led to more time spent querying fake purchases, it may not be the better solution it appeared to be.

DetestableHerytike · 19/06/2016 14:59

Beyond

If an online retailer could cut out a step in its checkout process that led to agreater number of baskets being paid for, it would.

That's what MNHQ have done.

BeyondTellsEveryoneRealFacts · 19/06/2016 14:35

What did MNHQ think was wrong with the old system that led them to think this was a better solution?

This q, please

bloodyteenagers · 19/06/2016 14:34

Or about at joining
We will issue a temp user name. You have 15 minutes to create a permanent name or the account will be locked.

A suggestion is just that. Most people would ignore it and clearly are. Unless of course all the existing user### are the same.

I wonder if there is a goady fucker site out there. They all gather and talk about the best sites to go on and how to do it. What can they post about. Maybe a point system with bonus points for pissing off X amount. Double bonus for going viral type thing.

Waltermittythesequel · 19/06/2016 14:34

Bottom line: it's a ridiculous system and I have no idea why anyone thought it would do any good, tbh.

The thing is even if someone says "I'm not a troll" and then starts their thread, people will be Hmm so even if they respond to OP it won't be their usual responses IYSWIM.

And already people are saying they just won't respond to user###

AugustaFinkNottle · 19/06/2016 14:31

What I don't understand is - this is only a recent phenomenon. What did MNHQ think was wrong with the old system that led them to think this was a better solution?

Catzpyjamas · 19/06/2016 14:29

I know it's been said before but I think there needs to be a WELCOME TO MUMSNET sticky on Active with advice to read guidelines, a link to acronyms and a stipulation to change your username before posting.
Otherwise you will be henceforth known as Bob.

Glad I didn't see that one.

Waltermittythesequel · 19/06/2016 14:21

It's not about tarring everyone with the same brush, it's about trying to prevent posters being told it's their faults their children are dead (for example).

Trills · 19/06/2016 14:07

If someone is posting on one thread with multiple names then they don't deserve to have their threads answered sensibly.

FaFoutis · 19/06/2016 14:07

Agreed.
One of them pissed me off and now I'm tarring them all with the same brush.

HeffalumpHistory · 19/06/2016 14:07

Can't you do away with the automated name & make people choose a nn when they sign up? So nothing can be posted by user123445678890 as well as no threads started?

Waltermittythesequel · 19/06/2016 14:06

I think we all need to agree to just completely ignore these posters without a nn until it's sorted.

Unfortunate for newbies but the alternative is what happened on your threads MaryZ

paxillin · 19/06/2016 14:06

Maybe we all need to go through AIBU and chat and just post please get a name, user323985854300. If each of us does 3 a day there will be only the Bobs who want to be Bobs left and then they can be ignored.

it's hard to know who is the op (and their sockies) if everyone has the same name.

Are you still using Classic without OP-highlighting? How retro of you :o

I have made it so your posts are a lovely green colour, and mine are purpley.

WorraLiberty · 19/06/2016 14:00

I'm trying to imagine the conversation Grin

Tech: "I know, lets give everyone the user name Bob when they register".

Justine: "Won't that be a little confusing?"

Tech: "Nah, it'll be grand. We'll just politely suggest they change to a different name if they feel like it".

Justine: "Ohhh, ok then. I mean, what's the worst that can happen"?

We have a "member#####" on the wc/bus thread.

I saw it and thought
Dick.
