In advance of the release of The Angry Birds Movie we thought it would be fun to let Angry Birds loose over the topic for the next four days. We very much hope you enjoy them but if you don't, not to worry; they'll be fluttering off in a few days.

Whoops, pressed enter too soon, sorry! Meant to add that wasn't aimed at anyone in particular - it's my own mantra for people who complain about advertising. Feel free to throw biscuits (and angry birds) at me…

sizeofalentil · 10/05/2016 17:19

This is a free site that you're under no obligation to use - unless you want to start paying the staff (and can rally EVERYONE ELSE to want to do the same to make it commercially viable) and the site costs then don't whinge about the ad stuff.

I know someone who is being paid to dress up in an Angry Bird costume and hang around McDonalds in London this weekend.

Apparently they are only allowed to stay in costume for 20 minutes as they are very stuffy and hot. She has been given explicit instructions on what to do if a child is scared or cries. (Cry with them apparently, with a gentle flapping of the wings)

@HirplesWithHaggis

I may be the only person affected, but if I click on an AIBU thread it opens initially, then the whole thread turns into plain blue, with an Angry Bird in the middle, and I can't read the thread. Sad

I'm using Safari on an iPad, if that makes a difference.

Oh dear - sorry Hirples - that's not good. Will ask tech team to look at it.

Oh, I remember the Baby Show/Arms thing 'blowing up' Grin

wickedlazy · 10/05/2016 14:58

I'm also ignorant about Thomas Cook.

The adverts don't bother me at all, love the new Angry Bird aibu? Grin

Feelingsolow12345 · 10/05/2016 14:55

I'm guilty I actually want to watch Angry Bird my son isn't even old enough to sit up on his own let alone watch the film xD

@WellErrr

Justine thank you for that response - very interesting! And laudable. Sorry for my snidey comment earlier.

I think the absence of advertisements for pretty much all of those products is a large (yet subliminal) part of why I use mumsnet.

Thank you for your moral and responsible stance! impossible to say in non patronising way, sorry!

Thank you, you've made my day and not been the least bit patronising Smile.

Angry Bird But I like the tiny blue ones and the bomb ones best Angry Bird
SoupDragon · 10/05/2016 14:27

Ah.... I thought it might have been that.

LisaRinnasLips · 10/05/2016 14:21

The Angry Birds film was actually pretty awesome

JustineMumsnet · 10/05/2016 14:20

@SoupDragon

What did Thomas Cook do wrong? I can't remember!

Thomas Cook explanation here. Although to be fair they have since apologised and promised to learn/change so we should probably consider removing them from our list.

Sometimes I feel like an Angry Bird and other times I am a Halo. I love a Biscuit with my Brew but would prefer a slice of Cake or a bar of Chocolate. Do I deserve some Star's or a Flowers? Pity there are many hours left until Wine o'clock. Wink

You think the 'AIBU in association with angry birds' is subtle? I'd love to see your unsubtle.

MissDuke · 10/05/2016 14:09

I cannot believe that anyone would be annoyed by subtle advertising , it is my favourite thing about mumsnet. Another parenting site has these full page ads that are hard to click out off and drive me insane, which is why I only use mumsnet now. Personally I say keep it up mumsnet!

Natsku · 10/05/2016 14:04

I don't mind it, got to stick up for Angry Birds for (acquired) national pride, plus they built a really cool playground in a city near me.

AdrenalineFudge · 10/05/2016 14:03

There is honestly not one thing that HQ could do that would please everybody. There'll always be someone moaning about the most inconsequential of things me included on occasion

EssentialHummus · 10/05/2016 13:53

I don't like it, because I'm reading it as describing women who post on AIBU as "Angry Birds". It makes me, er, angry.

But, yeah, needs must and it's temporary.

Nanny0gg · 10/05/2016 13:42

What's wrong with Thomas Cook?

inlovewithhubby · 10/05/2016 13:15

Prey on the vulnerable not pray. Don't get me started on prayer.

inlovewithhubby · 10/05/2016 13:12

Duchess, as you asked the question directly, I'd happily pay a fee for the privilege of not having angry birds or similar hurled at me. As I do with Spotify for example. Adverts are mostly for useless shite no one needs, pray on the vulnerable to want to keep up with the Joneses, cause graspy consumerism in kids and are generally a bit vacuous. As I said before, I can tolerate (and understand the function of) the pop up ads, but I honestly credited mumsnet with a bit more subtlety than sticking a big fat angry bloody birds advert thread at the top of AIBU. I think the site is better than that.

LondonHuffyPuffy · 10/05/2016 13:11

Heh! I had never seen Torch as a spliff! I like.
