Can we have a topic where name changing is not allowed?

Lots of people feel the 'atmosphere' has been somewhat lost, due to MN becoming so big and so many people name changing for dubious reasons.

So how about a new topic where name changing is not allowed?

So to post in that section, you choose a different name (much like in Mumsnet local). But you have to stick to that name only.

That way, in that section at least, there would be less arses/goady fuckers/Billy bullshitters and drama llamas, hiding behind name changes.

People will become 'regulars' again (in that section at least) and when you go there to chat, you'll at least 'recognise' other people.

OK I'm sure there are 1 million reasons why this is a stupid idea/impossible to set up, but can anyone think of them? Grin

Tennis balls used to be white - they brought in yellow ones in the 70s, because they were better for tv, but Wimbledon didn't use them till sometime in the 80s. Would have been sometime between 1982 and 1987 as it was while I was working at a library near Wimbledon.

Ah I see. In that case, can I come in? I NC a fuck of a lot for real life security, but love the idea of a separate chat space where I wouldn't have to do that.

Love some of the backwards NCs especially favesaremynobhobs.

I may go all mysterious and be something like 3BsBackwards, needs more thought.

Be very careful when picking wild water cress, it is easily confused with hemlock!

Its been tried to apply everywhere but there are so many pps who screech bullies/mn royalty/trolls/etc that this is why its now reached the stage where Worra decided to ask for a section where none of that goes on.

Watercress coloured tennis balls? Oh no, you're wrong there! I think NC for specific reasons can be necessary anywhere eg being "outed" and wanting a brand new permanent name or posting something identifying/embarrassing which could happen in any topic. I like the idea of a limited number of name changes being available though.

um, could we take your idea but instead of applying it to building community in a single new corner, apply it everywhere except where users NC for important security reasons (e.g. Adoption)?

There'll be loads of reasons this is a silly naive idea, won't there?

Arrgh, firstly, is this just for old hands? I post a bit a lot, but I've only been here just over two years so not that long. (I was Ohwhatfuckeryisthis and VagelinaJolie) And will I have to change every time I post? I'm not a hairy handed one I promise, I try to be nice and wash behind my ears, but I'm still a bit scared of the big girls.
