Please

Please

PLEASE!

It is literally TWO people, out of the thousands registered here, who are ruining the Mumsnet thing for me - RUINING it, I say!

What are the chances of this being brought in?

But basically we don't have to rely on MN to implement this. My knowledge of JavaScript is pretty rudimentary but I bet we could write one together - anyone up for learning JavaScript? Grin

slightlyglitterpaned · 22/11/2015 12:59

Didn't someone write a little JavaScript addon a while back that would hide poster for you? I don't know if it still works, I never got around to trying it out.

It might work if what you say is interesting and funny and thoughtful.

So it wouldn't be for me Grin

But hiding Worra, MaryZ or Lilac wouldn't work as well, you'd know they are here because others quoted or replied to them. Thread would still work though with either gone.

The problem is if you have a thread with all 5 of your gf hidees on, but you wouldn't be on that thread anyway.

Sparklingbrook · 22/11/2015 12:41

Bully!

UnlikelyPilgramage · 22/11/2015 12:39

For example, if I hid sparkling from this thread (nothing personal obviously sparkling Grin) the thread would still make sense. But if for whatever reason she had been enraging me Wink I wouldn't be.

The merailers tend to cause long running dog with bone-esque bunfights. Which cause lots of clicks. It's all about the clicks so hiding posters not good from a business angle.

reni2 · 22/11/2015 12:37

The threads would make sense still, gf I am thinking off hasn't been caught adding anything other than gfery. Many would hide the same ones so chances anyone bites would be reduced.

But actually I think some people would take great delight in revealing their hidden lists, so would probably ask inane questions about missing Bishops on purpose.

Maryz I have a mental image of you rocking back and forth and writing 'HELP' in your own excrement Grin Grin

How far from the truth am I?

Mind you, that'll be me soon enough if I don't learn to stop pointlessly arguing just because I've got nothing better to do, at that given time Blush

Exactly Worra

I suspect that MN HQ don't want to do it because it's a hell of a lot of work to benefit a few posters who can't just bite their tongues and ignore.

The thread will continue to be derailed OP but you'll have the Swiss cheese derailed version.

Is it really too much to expect adults to just scroll past what another adult has typed, or to just hide the thread though?

I don't mean this to be as patronising as it sounds, but honestly we tell our kids and actually we tell other posters to just 'smile and nod' or 'ignore' people in real life.

Online, all we have to do is scroll.

FrancesOldhamKelsey · 22/11/2015 11:57

X-post with other people saying the same thing.

OneMoreCasualty · 22/11/2015 11:57

But on Mn, we just copy and paste some or all of the text, possibly adding the posting name, possibly not, possibly a short version like Lilac, possibly initials like LSM, and we all abbreviate differently.

So no, it wouldn't be possible!

FrancesOldhamKelsey · 22/11/2015 11:56

I don't think MNHQ say they can't. I think they have always said they don't want to because it makes Swiss cheese of threads. I tend to disagree - if threads are turned to gibberish then it's only the people who've chosen to hide poster who are affected, and it's their choice whether they think the damage to their blood pressure of seeing unwanted posts outweighs the inconvenience of incomprehensible threads.

OneMoreCasualty · 22/11/2015 11:56

Lilac, other forums have a quote poster function - ie you hit reply post to the post you want to quote, not just add post at the end of the thread.

Sparklingbrook · 22/11/2015 11:55

Yes you would have to accept holey threads if you wanted the option. You could have fun mentally guessing what the hidden poster had come out with this time by the responses. Grin
